I will add, I'm very optimistic and excited for C4 and the broad strokes we know about it so far, but even if C4 in the end turns out to be similarly mid and unimpressive, I very much still intend to defend this as a production decision and creative management direction with my life, even if I end up lukewarm and critical of the story and work itself on its own creative and narrative merits. These are very much separate things, and I am already supportive of this from the perspective of managing the body of work and its creatives and will always continue to be.

It's really valuable to me that, when they felt that Matt needed a breather from GMing, they structured their next long-form campaign to allow for that. Brennan also said that he is taking the reins for a bit so that others "can tend to all of these astounding endeavors that they have going on", and building that kind of space for members of the production is important. As someone invested in their overall body of work and in how it develops, this is valuable and encouraging to me.

On top of that, that they are trying something even slightly new — even if it's potentially alienating — after ten years of the same exact mixture is promising. They need to start branching out, especially in cast, to sustain their body of work over time, but their interest in branching out beyond Exandria for more extended periods of time is also promising from a creative standpoint. This kind of foray is critical to the continued development and sustainability of this production as a whole, and that they're working on it at this juncture, where it is becoming increasingly necessary as they continue to rapidly grow and expand and as the production hits ten years, is heartening.

Even if in time I find that C4 is messy, narratively weak, muddled, underbaked, whatever I might feel a year from now, from a production standpoint and a creative experiment view, I'm fully in support and will remain to be.

It’s so funny how people forget what certain dog breeds were bred for. A dachshund named Valerie has been marooned on a remote part of Kangaroo Island since she ran away from a campsite in 2023 and everyone in the comments was like “that is the last dog breed I would expect to survive on its own for 500 days”. Hmm. I don’t know if it’s just me and I’ve met absolute freak dachshunds my entire life but they’re tenacious little motherfuckers with an incredible prey drive. I’m more worried about the critically endangered endemic Kangaroo Island dunnart population than I am Valerie. No large predators, several species of small mammal, temperatures consistently between 55° and 75°? She’s the queen of the island now. All small marsupials quake at the sound of her footsteps.

people are clowning on this guy on reddit but uhhh let's pause for a minute and ask...so what happens if someone has a skin condition? what if part of their face has been burned? what if they're missing their eyes? and so what if they just have a fuckton of tattoos? recognition algorithms are aligned with the most ""average"" / ""normal"" features which means any deviation gets denied access to shit we didnt need age verification for 1 year ago. i dont care if it's a choice versus not, dont care if it's accessing porn or wikipedia, this needs to stop

I have a whole long essay about why everything else about the C4 announcement is good and exciting, and how I can't wait to see what they do, and how great it is that Matt gets to play long term, and they all deserve breaks and bringing in new people is really exciting and good diversification and growth for the actual play industry.

My one hangup, and it's not a small one, is I wish the GM was literally anyone OTHER than Brennan.

I know Tumblr loves Brennan and I'm gonna get reamed for this, but I was really looking forward to CR bringing other creatives and people with new takes, either who they know of or who have proven themselves on a smaller scale to come and get a chance to show people their stuff, and bring a story in CR to life. To get some New people into the high ranks of famous GMs.

But instead, it's just the Other biggest GM. If it was literally ANYONE else we'd have a different perspective, something new. But instead it's just More Brennan.

Today is Tisha B'Av, the ninth of the Hebrew month of Av, which is when we commemorate the destruction of both Temples, in Jerusalem. Along with every other tragedy that occurred to the Jews; the exiles, the pogroms, the crusades. For context, there are 44 Kinnot (lamenting verses), and years, centuries later, three about the Holocaust were added. It's the saddest day of the year. We fast, we go completely in mourning, we sit on lowered seats, we cry.

There's not really a good way to end this. I hate this day, but hope that soon, it will turn into a day of celebrating. Take care. Easy fast for all those observing.
