That is me?
So it turns out the reason why I was unable to register for a class I was allegedly given permission for was because the department had actually given it to a “Alexander S. Fitzpatrick”.
This person is not a student in any of the CUNY colleges and no one knows how he got into system.
Amazing.

Light and Living Paper
At first glance, the objects in these photos seem to be organic life forms of various size and species, bodies of cells that have clustered and expanded. Upon closer inspection, however, they can be distinguished as biomorphic-shaped sculptures, crafted meticulously by sculptor Mary Button Durell. The organic quality of the works is due much in part to the materials and process used to build them; each sculpture is made only of tracing paper and wheat paste, built up and reinforced by hand. Their structure is comprised by adjoining individual cells and cones, molded and formed by folding over several paper layers for rigidity and strength.
Light is also an important aspect to creating the organic qualities present within the works. The physical structure of the pieces allows the viewer to see both the outside and inside of each piece, focusing the eye on the shape of the sculpture itself. Different sections and different works imply different aspects of a body; larger works tend to evoke the idea of a skeletal structure or an abandoned shell. The translucency of the tracing paper also allows light to emphasize the thinness of the materials themselves, giving the impression that each cluster is a cell membrane being viewed through a microscope. The resulting series of works is decidedly based on nature and the body.
Mary Button Durell has recently also begun a series that introduces colour into her sculptures. To see these works in progress or for more information on her, click here.

Marble lights is a collection in marble and glass. Originating from an archetypal bulb and socket, it consists of glass spheres and cylindrical marble lamp holders in various sizes which can be freely combined.

Natural form and poetic beauty was the inspiration for the Light Garden. It might seem clichéd but I have been inspired by two aspects of my life, one here in Sydney and the other in the Canadian forests. Living eight years of my life in Canada, I ventured out into the mountains, mostly snowboarding. In between the action I would sometimes find myself admiring the way the light burst through the trees in the morning sun. The way the sun hit the trees was stunning, as the rays of light almost burst through the branches, leaving the trees in silhouette. This was a strong image and it has inspired me more than I expected.  Now living in Sydney, I have come to notice the abundance of buildings covered in vines, in particular the bougainvillea. I really enjoy the green wall they create as the plants seem to engulf the facade and grow on their own path throughout our city. The growth looks to have no immediate regard for our city structures however, it is governed by its search for photosynthetic energy from the sun. I enjoy the idea of nature creeping into our busy lives, seemingly unacknowledged. The energy efficient Light Garden allows you to create a custom experience limited only by your imagination. Whether you have one or one hundred fittings, the modular functionality allows you to create an organic and abstract pattern across a surface, allowing each installation to be come a completely unique piece. The personalised garden of light brings the essence of natural inspiration into the space.
The fitting is Energy efficient as it is internally lit by LED lighting, giving the effect of light bursting through the fitting like the sun through the branches of the trees in a forest. The diffuser can be finished in a multitude of eco-friendly materials and colours, can can also be customised to your specifications.  The light fittings become a manufactured vine, custom created by the you. As the fitting grows across the wall you can create a garden of light, bringing an essence of nature into the space. The Light Garden has recently Won the Saturday In Design - Big River Timber to Tokyo Competition, placed Runners up in the Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award 2011 and been exhibited at Coco Republic Design Center, Museum of Contemporary Art and SupaCenter. The Light Garden is now on show at HE MADE SHE MADE a new concept galley that has opened up on Oxford St.

Bursts of colour, falling stories and Autumn leaves were one of the must see stands at Tokyo Designers Week. Entering the booth you were surrounded by a domed tunnel of colour, projection and a smart phone with an exclusive Android skin... docomo Palette UI. The booth was fun, colourful and very interactive, the UX Design was intuitive as everyone was giving it a go.

During the Designers Week we walked into an electrifying booth. Inside was a melody of guitars, hand tools, benders and turntables, these instruments/ every day household items were being conducted by shots of energy, producing some amazing beats.

An amazing snake like furniture installation caught my eye one on the way to the show one day, in the Aoyama district where I was staying (Aoyama= Blue Mountain, nothing like ours...). The use of materials and composition within the space were well thought out. I had to take pictures, even with the slightly hesitant and unamused guard.
Lawrence has recently informed me it was a Frank Gehry and partners creation... called Tokyo Bench, more info to be found here!
