TADC EPISODE 5 THOUGHTS AND SPOILERS!!! pt. 1
"Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers" - The Raggedy Ann and Andy reference is from Caine this time??
HOLY RENDERING
Caine has a Beesona
Caine is getting angrier
Hearing Jax reference having a Mom is so weird
Jax acting like a animal count: 1 (Poacher's Paradise)
On Kinger's brief it says "NOTE: NO FUNNY BUSINESS! DON'T EMBARRASS THE PRESIDENT OF THIS GREAT NATION! >:(" This is really interesting to me because it's already flattering(?) to Pomni that Jax thought a "position of power suited her" but the fact that he gave everyone briefs EXCEPT Pomni that said not to embarrass her. It's solid proof how much Jax wants Pomni to enjoy the adventure. (Probably cuz he doesn't want her to abstract like the Frog guy) You could also say that Jax is being mean by not giving Pomni a brief but I think it just proves that he wants to be the only one allowed to mess with her.
There are 3 books on the shelf in the White House that just have names on them, "Holly", "Effie" and "Frank".. a little interesting...
On the desk behind Pomni's in the Oval Office, there is a picture of Jax in a tie and hat, a picture of Ragatha made of... cardboard? and a picture of an abstracted circus member (i feel like thats definitely the frog again if this is from Jax's mind
"HI! I"M A NEW ZEALAND EXTREMIST"
God, bubble looks so good in this one
Gaslight District art in the Anime classroom
"C/G x P" on the blocks behind Gangle
More Jax trying to be Pomni's bff
Ragatha figurine reference
Jax doesn't feel like he's acting anymore (Stargazing scene)
"Why are you always pretending everything's always fine? If you tell someone they're loved and appreciated everyday it just- kinda loses all meaning." I think its really interesting that Jax says this as if he's speaking to Rags even though he isn't. He's clearly thought through what he wants to say to her. I think this quote also shows that he isn't sick of Ragatha, he's just sick of her fake constantly cheery persona. He wants to feel appreciated by her, he just feels like she never means it when she says it. (Also, I don't think there's some dark evil Ragatha whose entire persona is fake, I do think she is naturally cheery and friendly, but she pushes herself to be like that all the time and Jax sees through it and is sick of it)
"ALSO SHE'S DUMB AND SHE LOOKS WEIRD" is obv Jax trying to cover up his genuine thinking about it - back to the persona.
"EXPLAIN TO DADDY BUBBLE"
"you should through a FUCKING beach party"
Words cannot explain how much I love the intermission- its like the dancing fruits on steroroids
OK in the intermission- at some point, Pomni, Jax, Gangle, Ragatha, and Kinger are lined up and Pomni and Jax have bowling balls above their head which subsequently squish them. Gangle and Ragatha have cakes that fall on them, and Kinger also has a bowling ball. I have very little clue what this means. My only idea is that it represents that only something really strong could take out Jax or Pomni, while Ragatha and Gangle are more fragile and could get taken out by something way less heavy. I don't know if this will parallel end-of-series events or if it even matters at all. Also Kinger isn't crushed by the ball, but rather taken out by a rook, showing that perhaps he's the mentally strongest (even though he's crazy, he's survived the longest), however, something out of left field could affect him big time. All this being said - where is zooble?
Jax running (away from his past?) but stopping at Ribbit's door- yikes. There are abstraction eyes all around and I think its fair to say that Jax played some role in his abstraction.
Jax saying "ah a youtuber" was like earth shattering because I asssumed this was like 90's-00's, but does help us paint a timeline, and so we know that Jax joined recently enough for Urban Exploration to be a youtube thing
"Hiding somethinggggg-" "You'd know all about that, wouldn't you?' God I love Zooble, but yeah more confirmation that he's hiding something
Jax referencing Breaking Bad and Ragatha not getting it also helps establish a timeline- we know Jax joined 2008 or later, but the fact that Ragatha doesn't get it means she was either there before that or has 0 pop culture knowledge
Ragatha talking about her life even though no one asked- she tries to be there for everyone but no one cares about her
Ragatha says she did real estate, but if she joined around the same time Jax might have (2008), thats when the Great Recession was going on, so not a great time to be a real estate agent, this could have caused her to leave her job and end up at the circus.
Also, Jax's sad face when Rags talks about her abusive mother- realizing that that might be the reason she feels she needs to be perfect all the time.
OK im gonna post a part two, thank you for reading this far! i'd love to know your thoughts!

TADC theory (spoilers for episode 5)
Aight so I have a theory about Jax
Yes ik it’s kinda cliche to be theorizing about Jax of all people bc he’s literally one of the most theorized characters
but one of his lines in the newest episode kinda sparks my interest. During the Stargazing adventure, he asks Pomni, “Do you think Gangle is actually capable of being happy?” the way he asks that looks and feels genuine. He’s actually wondering that. He mentions that her comedy mask breaks every day anyways, and does she think hanging out with Zooble everyday is going to change that?
And actually, I think that’s not a bad thing to be wondering about. Rarely do we ever see Gangle genuinely happy- and if we haven’t seen that often, Jax probably hasn’t, either. Yes, a lot of that is his fault for being an @$$ to Gangle.
A lot of the times we see Gangle smiling, it’s just because of a mask. Whether her comedy mask, or the one we see in episode four, we rarely ever see her smiling without the comedy mask. And even when she is smiling, she’s still crying.
I’m wondering if, by breaking her mask, Jax could sort of be doing Gangle a favor. NOT by being mean to her- trust me, I’m not trying to defend him for his behavior. But her mask is constantly hiding how she’s really feeling in the moment. Without the mask, she’s showing her true emotions, which is much healthier than hiding them by pretending everything’s okay.
I guess this isn’t really much of a theory, but idk- I just thought it was kinda interesting
some other things I thought while watching:
Seriously, wtf happened to Jax’s tail, and can I see him WITH a fluffy bunny tail please and thank you.
Pomni definitely seems to be warming up to Jax during this episode! Sure, he can be an @$$hole. Many of the others only see that side of him. But during the Stargazing adventure, we definitely see a lot more vulnerability with Jax. Pomni says to him, “I didn’t think you cared about what other people like.” To which Jax responds, “I just- No, yeah, y-you’re right. I don’t.” In a very unconvincing manner. Continuing this train of thought, Pomni seems to be really good at getting people to open up. She helped Gummigoo when he was literally having an existential crisis, she talked to Gangle during the fast food episode and got her to open up a bit, and even Kinger during the haunted house episode. I get the feeling Jax might’ve opened up to her more, if not for Ragatha entering the conversation. Pomni seems very much like a neutral party in the group- she’s not loyal to one specific person or group of people. She doesn’t try to befriend anyone to use them, she doesn’t like to side with people in arguments. She’s a mediator who speaks her mind, and that’s what makes her essential to the group. And unlike Ragatha, she doesn’t try to put a positive spin on bad things.
Speaking of Ragatha, her toxic positivity is definitely one of the key wedges between the group, NOT one of the things holding it together. She’s trying her best, and she’s a good person. We learn during the Bartending adventure that she had a verbally abusive (and probably manipulative) mother, so there’s definitely some trauma there. Her way of coping with things is by trying to stay positive. But by always pretending like everything’s fine, she’s hurting everyone, including herself. Both Gangle and Jax have said that it can be hard to tell when Ragatha is being genuinely nice and caring, and when she’s just faking it. Her kindness loses its meaning after a while.
Also lot of what Jax says and does definitely has to be taken with a grain of salt. A lot of little things throughout the season show that Jax actually does care, but doesn’t show it. I’m wondering if some of his teasing really is just meant to be funny, maybe a sort of love language kinda? To be clear, I’m not talking about his poor treatment of people as a whole. But there’s one point where he’s talking about Ragatha in a serious manner, then changes tone with a grin and says, “Also she’s dumb and she looks weird”. Pomni giggles slightly at this. I dunno- just a thought.
The flip is up with the intermission- 😭 literally the only sense I can make of it is that Jax’s old friend is probably Ribbit, since we see him standing outside that door in the hallway of bedrooms
During the bar adventure, Jax says something vegan (if you can’t tell I’m getting a bit lazy; pls just watch the episode and you’ll know what I’m talking about T^T), then realizes what he’s said, and says, “Wha- I hate this! How is this even possible? I thought Caine couldn’t-“ Then he breaks off, staring into space for a moment with a confused and concerned expression. My guess is that he thought Caine couldn’t mess with their personalities. Jax thought Caine didn’t have control over the players as people, aside from forcing them on adventures and stuff. Just thought this was an interesting moment.
THE WAY JAX’S EYES GO BIG WHEN RAGATHA APOLOGIZES IS ACTUALLY SO CUTE AWWW-
I have one more thing but imma put it in a separate post bc this is too long and this one’s actually a theory

A theory on the Evils - Evil(?) Jax
[Check out this post for more context]
Evil Jax is compassionate, caring and nervous.
This might not seem so evil... right? But somehow, in Jax's eyes, this is evil.
Remember when he was talking to Pomni about Ragatha and her "oh-so-positive charm"?
In Jax's eyes, her being caring and "excessively" positive makes him feel like he's being used or manipulated by her.
What if that perception he has of her is why Evil Jax is this way? If he feels she's being selfishly kind or overly nice to others for her own agenda, even unconsciously, he might associate this with being evil. He could even be thinking of Gangle, where the more nervous side of Evil Jax could come from. Manager Gangle kept a somewhat nice façade, but as soon as something wrong happened, Jax got literally tortured. It's another case of the "I'm acting nice, but I also may be doing something very bad to you behind the scenes".
Another idea I've had about this is also the fact that Jax puts distance between himself and the others to protect himself. He knows people are going to abstract at some point, and he might associate people act all nice and making friends with the pain of what's left after someone abstracts (Ribbit?), and that being too nice is hurtful to others, and therefore evil.
So, conclusion of Evil Jax's side of the theory : Jax considers being overly nice and vulnerable with others to be suspicious (or maybe even two-faced or betraying someone) and potentially evil, which is represented with Evil Jax openly communicating and encouraging others.
[I have so much more to say about Jax help- I'll stop this here since this is about Evil Jax..]

you are so right for all of this omg
it seems like no one interpreted the latest tadc episode the aame way i did so here goes:
1. i took the friends line to mean jax was friends with the entire previous cast, and has been here the longest. by entire previous cast i mean like, 4-5 characters that were around whenever he got there, and that slowly abstracted and got replaced by the crew we know. not just ribbit
2. i think it's pretty safe to assume that his whole cruelty schtick is something he formed over time as more and more of his friends abstracted to protect himself from having to deal with making new friends and then watching them abstract. he's trying to keep himself sane, alive, and to some extent happy
3. jax and ragatha have such an intense rivalry because they have opposite coping methods and not because they're siblings. ragatha copes by being kind to everyone all the time, being liked, never being hurtful, and keeping the peace. jax copes by isolating himself through cruelty. they inherently clash with each other and that's why they can never get along
4. i don't think ragatha and jax both lived on a farm and shared a mother or whatever. i think jax also had a rough home life, and the shot of him looking down is him realising he has more in common with ragatha than he wants to admit. im pretty sure the "it reminds him of the farm" thing was goose fucking around
5. caine can and has absolutely altered the minds and bodies of the cast. he says he cant in the pilot, and i don't think he was lying intentionally. i think his ai is starting to glitch, and has been for a while, like with bubble and some of the other npcs. he's likely been able to do this for quite some time, and i reckon he had a restriction coded in to prevent that, but it broke down. however, because it's hard coded, he still thinks he can't, or at least is unable to acknowledge it to the humans.
things are really starting to ramp up now and im soooo excited yayayayayy

I have decided for a specific fic that Damian and Tim are the two sides of the cis(?) coin.
Damian identifies as male because it's easiest, but gives 0 shits about gender conformity and never has. He doesn't consider himself nb, but he probably would if it were just his family. As it stands, explaining to people constantly is more energy than he's willing to expend when he has 0 problems with being seen as a cis guy.
Tim identifies as male because he's never questioned it before. He's never really thought about his gender identity beyond going "I don't want to die when I'm called a guy and I don't enjoy being called a girl so I'm not a girl". But if he ever sat down and really thought about it, and looked through the various identity terms people have coined he would suddenly have Many questions and eventually realize he's genderfluid. Too bad he's settled and will never think about this again. (Jk he wears a dress at somepoint and it makes him rethink his entire identity and he has several crises)

Gender shenanigans ideas with the bat fam:
Tim and Cas are both enby in the sense that “yeah people put me in this box but I don’t really have another box to go to so might as well be this.”
Jason never felt comfortable in his skin, but it wasn’t until be got dunked in the magical green buff juice. After the rage has cleared up and he’s in an area where he could stop and think he realizes that he may not be a boy. But because of his physique and how necessary he is for crime ally he doesn’t think he can change it. He doesn’t even let himself try out other pronouns. *no he can’t be a girl what are you talking about? Girls can wear the pretty skirts and he can’t*
Dick is gender fluid though usually male or male adjacent. He feels comfortable in his own skin and wears what ever he wants whenever he wants.
Duke was very very young when he found out he was trans and his parents let him transition so you that he just kinda forgets that he’s not cis. No one knows he’s trans but he just genuinely forgets to tell people. He’s been doing his own testosterone for like two years before his parents got jokerized so it kinda just fell through the cracks. He doesn’t feel the need to tell people either he’s just kinda there.
Babs is mtf and confident with her self.
Steph thought she could be enby for a period of time but she’s a cis girly pop. She just doesn’t like being treated like she’s less than and has no interest in “traditional female value” (cough cough misogyny)
Damian is a guy, he has never thought to question his gender. He was told he was a guy since birth so clearly he must be a guy right? Right?? Well he’s obviously not a girl, not that he hates wearing skirts or makeup he’s just not a girl so that means he’s a guy.

I know none of my mutual will care about this but. I hate how in batman reader inserts they call a reader who's the sidekick for Selena Catgirl/Catboy or some shit.
Just call them Calico.
it sticks the cat theme, it's gender neutral, it parallels Batman and Robin's all black hero + colorful sidekick stic (imagining Calico actually has Calico colors) and it also parallels Batman and Robin's naming convention. Catgirl/Catboy as a name parallels Batgirl more than Robin which is hypothetically fine but barely ever the intention. 90% of the time I've seen Catgirl as a sidekick named used, it's used to be paired with a Robin or to parallel Bruce's relationship to the Robins. Most Robin's have green in their palette. Calico's are most associated with having green eyes. unifying colors!!
