What is your name? My name is Ayo Ngozi www.ayongozi.net

What do you do?

I am a clinical herbalist. I see clients in private practice, where my work is similar to what family doctors did before pharmaceuticals dominated the market. I am able to spend a good amount of time getting to know my clients as whole people, beyond their symptoms or diagnoses—considering diet, sleep, lifestyle preferences, family health history, even personality—and working in partnership with them to address their health and wellness concerns. I am also an educator. I research and write about plant medicine and clinical practice for the Herbal Academy of New England, and serve on the staff of the Maryland University of Integrative Health. I also train community herbalists at Centro Ashe Farm in southern Maryland. One thing I love about being an herbalist is all of the different directions that can be taken through this work—clinical practice, teaching, growing herbs and medicine-making, community-building, scientific research, even artmaking.
