Summary: (Darklina) I will follow you into the dark.
Warnings: Death
A/N: A drabble based off this cover of the song and a prompt I saw, but can’t remember where now. Takes place a long time after Ruin and Rising, but I never finished KoS much less RoW so that’s not a thing here. @darklinadaily
Her death was kind, surrounded by those she loved. It was easy to close her eyes one final time and slip away.
She didn’t expect there to be anything more.
Alina looks around. She hears the faint sounds of an engine, quiet in the background, far away. She is in what looks like a corridor, only compartments with doors lining an endless path. It takes a moment for recognition to click. This is a train of some kind. It is beautifully crafted, the dark wood immaculate and reassuring in it’s warmth. Her brow furrows, what had she been doing before? How has she arrived here? She turns to see large windows opposite the compartments, displaying the passing scenery. She steps forward mesmerized by the view. It is thickly covered in fog or clouds, but of what she can make out vast mountains look huge and flush with deep greenery as they pass. Everything is undisturbed as if it has never been touched. There is no sky just the white and the green. She can’t help smiling at it’s beauty and serenity. It’s a view she could stare at forever.
A quiet light blooms in her chest finally drawing her attention back. She brings her hand up to her chest curious of the feeling. It feels faint, but suddenly precious to her. It bids her to come and she follows letting instinct guide her as she passes compartment after another. She might have been curious enough to peek if it wasn’t for the pull. Each step has it growing and she wants more of that feeling. She arrives at a compartment with a frosted window. Her hand reaches out knowing she’s found whatever it is she is looking for.
The door opens for her and she realizes that might not have happened with the others. It is a thought that quickly vanishes at the sight before her. Her breath comes in sharp.
Aleksander sits with a book in his hand reading at his leisure as if time is his and no worry could ever touch him. It is only slightly irritating that he is even more handsome than she remembers. He is relaxed as he flips a page. “You’ve kept me waiting a long time solnishka.” She freezes at the sound of his voice. It has been so long. Oh how nothing earthly could ever sound like him again. She allows the smile that spreads as she shakes her head. Of course.
She turns to close the compartment. “I had a lot to do.” When she turns back he slides over to make room for her. The seat is large enough that she doesn’t have to sit next to him and there is another seat across, a table in between, from him as well. Alina closes the small distance sitting right against him. He is warm and solid and everything. His scent a memory she could never forget.
Her soul finally knows peace.

Is this blog still active?
Hi! It depends on what you mean by still active. I am pretty active(for me) on tumblr(@seldacharms). I still love usuk(I always will). I’ve said this before but neighbor was a miracle and still remains the only more than 5 chapters fic I’ve ever completed. I don’t think calling myself a slow writer is fair to slow writers. I also hibernate in which I don’t write anything, at all, for years even. I have been writing a long usuk slow burn fic but I’m not sure if I’ll ever publish even that(it’s messy and I like having it to myself it’s my baby lol). I guess the answer is as long as I love USUK in the creative way there is a chance I’ll post. The desire is certainly currently there, but I’m also like this so it’s up to you what to call that lol I don’t blame people for leaving. I still get notifications from this blog and it truly amazes me. I will never be able to say thank you enough for the support I’ve received and I am grateful. Anyway as usual I don’t know when to shut up so I hope ya’ll have been doing well and that the winter and new year is kind to you!!!!

In case it is not already absolutely clear. I DO NOT give permission for anyone to repost any of my fanfics in anyway, anywhere. PLEASE DO NOT REPOST MY WRITING.
There are reasons why I only post my fanfiction to tumblr. A large reason was that I didn’t want anyone to steal it and post it to w*ttpad or inst**ram(places notorious for stealing). Even if you give me credit, I EXPLICITLY do not want my stories anywhere else unless I post them there. If you have done this PLEASE TAKE THEM DOWN.
I have given some individuals from China who asked me permission to translate one of my stories and put that up on their sites, but this is the ONLY instance. It was not the English version but in a different language.
If you find my work reposted anywhere else, please ask them to take it down or inform me so I can.

I just remembered you wrote Neighbor Next Door and i had a minor panic attack because of tbe bullshit Tumblr is doing on 17th qnd i wanna know if you'll be uploading your fanfics somewhere or do you have any other media where i can follow you? ❣️❣️
Hi! Thanks for the concern that’s so nice of you, but I don’t think they’ll be deleting this blog. It seems like they are just making some images private, which sucks but shouldn’t impact this blog. If anything they’d delete my other side blogs before this one lol Still though if for any reason my stuff on here is ever deleted I have decided that I will then upload my fics on AO3(finally I know). I already have an account on there under alexwritesfluff. As for other social media I do have a twitter: alexwritesfluff I don’t post much though lol thanks again!

Oh god I have tears omg!! These designs are so beautiful I’m losing it. Francis looks amazing every bit the fancy omega he was meant to be and Arthur looks exasperated and flustered which is spot on too. You also caught Matt’s journal! He’s a quiet gentleman, but he has a lot of thoughts too so a journal fit him best. And ofc Francis is dazzling the heck out of him lol he’s really enjoying himself now that he is here. I’m so looking forward to writing more of them, thank you so much for this art😭💖
Tumblr media
I hope you guys haven’t bored of these doodles bc more will be coming haha
I get so many ideas and inspiration from those Canfran cameos 😭
- I’m sorry I haven’t draw Arthur in 284683 years
- Matthew having a little journal that he write and scribble everything inside, from cooking recipes to favorite quotes from novels and so on (such a dork I love him u///u) and guess who is slowly taking all those blank space in it…
- I can imagine Francis having his own time for hunting down (Matthew) men himself. I mean he definitely would though, he was born to getting attention any way
- Francis is like a maiden that wants to explore the world, living the life of adventures, eventually bump into a man that would leave everything behind to travel the world with 😭
@alexwritesfluff I hope you don’t mind me bribing you art cause I’m already desperate for the next chapter…

You are the sweetest one on the planet! These drawings are so gorgeous(as always!) I love the mood and your interpretations so much, especially Francis expressions and how soft it all looks. You flatter me too much, but I’m glad you are able to enjoy the fic. This is all so incredibly sweet I cry. My love for canfran has certainly grown since meeting you! 💕💕💕💕💕

Wildest Dreams 10/18
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7, Chapter 8, Chapter 9,
Summary: (USUK main +CanFran) Arthur is about to make his debut into English society, but his father fears he has become too rowdy to contain. Desperate to avoid a scandal before the debut of his only Omega son he arranges for him to travel to America. Arthur is to live at a newly wealthy house where removed from society he can’t possibly get into trouble.
Song Inspiration(Arthur POV): Wildest Dreams
Warnings: D/s dynamics which is basically traditional omegaverse A/N: <3
Arthur stood in front of an ornate glass waiting, the air exposing against his underthings. His gaze fell to the side where a mannequin with a half-formed outfit was placed. Outside of that everything was orderly. Against the wall there was a large wardrobe and a pile of folded fabrics. A desk was facing him atop it some books, neat stacks of papers and journals. Were they filled with more designs? His hands twitched wanting to flip through their pages to see.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.” Mr. Honda entered, that strange gleam still in his eye. Arthur tried to ignore it as he was made to stand traditionally. It wasn’t difficult, his posture was immaculate. This he knew, it was as easy as breathing. Mr. Honda’s hands moved deftly, sliding on a large piece of fabric. It was silky smooth and cool. The garment cascaded down his form as he was spun. He worked quickly as if he were afraid Arthur would stop him at any point. Arthur had been fitted many times before, but never this efficiently.
He was now facing away from the glass. Mr. Honda pulled at his waist, but luckily not too tight. Something tied at the top of his back. It felt soft and luxurious. He didn’t speak until he was done.
“Amazing..I thought it would fit, but even I couldn’t predict this. It’s as if I made it for you.” He seemed genuinely impressed. Arthur turned to look at himself, gasping, his hand reaching up to cover his mouth.
A floor length gown. It was very much the style of the plains, domestic. Arthur didn’t wear many gowns outside formal events and even more so ones that were so …puffy. Despite being a day dress it poofed out from right under his mid-chest. It wasn’t so big as a debut gown, but it was enough. The colors soft greens on top and creamy beige down. There were buttons that went all along his spine up to his neck that allowed for the tight fit on top without the constraint of a corset. The collar was see-through and made of a different material that was sure to shine in the light. A small emerald ribbon tied around his neck.
It had some Victorian influences, but there was a prairie overlay that couldn’t be denied. A beautiful and functional dress. The creamy beige of the skirt reminded him of his favorite tea with milk, the design only noticeable at the very bottom where fancy stitching dotted the hem. He smiled at the detail. He couldn’t help spinning to see how it moved. He took a moment to admire the back. The bow that Mr. Honda had tied was a delicate forest green silk. The ties started at each of his shoulder tips tying across his shoulder blades to meet at the center, but it was the buttons that went down his back that drew his eye. He stretched out his arms to see the detailing on the bishop sleeves. They were airy, with only a tease of the outline of his arm. He wondered over the fabric.
“How is it so comfortable?”
“I’m glad to hear it. I went through many prototypes and more than a couple of fabrics, but this one came specially from Asia. I mixed a couple making sure it wouldn’t add too much weight.” Arthur listened completely fascinated by the process.
“Oh Arthur dear! Don’t keep us in suspense we are simply shaking out here! Mr. Jones hardly knows what to do with himself, please do relieve us! Do you need any help I could lend some assistance or-“ Arthur immediately cut him off his cheeks flaming.
“No!! I-er-no thank you. I’ll be out in a moment.”
Arthur’s hands felt clammy as he gripped the soft material, he could feel a small amount of sweat slipping down his back. He simply couldn’t back down now. His heartbeat moving quicker, he took a deep breath stepping out of the room.
Arthur’s eyes immediately found Alfred’s. He had been looking at a hat but dropped it as Arthur stepped out. Alfred’s eyes widened as they glanced over him.
Arthur suddenly felt shyer than before. He worked hard not to care what Alphas thought of him, but Alfred seemed to have slipped through. Now he looked on nervously for his opinion.
The garment was beautiful, a soft look. He found it to be a perfect mix between two worlds that didn’t usually meet, refined nobility with an average omega sensibility, but did he look unappealing in it? Well of course he didn’t typically wear this style and even more so because it was unique to the area. Alfred had said it himself right? It wasn’t his type, it seems at every turn he’d done everything to push him away from anything that belonged in his world. As if Arthur didn’t already know that. His thoughts were spiraling his mood, his eyes dropping to the side, he didn’t want his disappointment to seem so obvious.
Alfred suddenly moved forward. His scent suffused him as he closed the gap. Arthur looked up, his hands beginning to fidget.
“I know it’s not-“ he didn’t want Alfred to tease him so he countered first, but was interrupted anyway.
“You look beautiful.” Alfred’s statement surprised him, his voice carrying a quiet secret. A secret he found himself desperately wanting to uncover.
Alfred swallowed, not knowing what to do with himself. The omega before him was transformed. He wore a fashion that lent itself to these parts, to his home. The alpha in him clawed at him, his instinct wanting to be free. Free to—he pushed it down, his urges lashing out at him.
Arthur had always looked and carried himself every bit the spoiled socialite, but like this that mask slipped away. Arthur looked like an omega he would be allowed to court. An omega for him and his instincts had reacted instantaneously to that. The bars he’d put in place in his mind melting away. A whiff of Arthur’s heavenly scent and he felt something take over in him, the words slipping out before he meant to.
His hand lifted and Arthur’s fell in easily, without a thought, as if they were both in a trance. He spun him effortlessly showing off the full effect. The dress moved fluidly, it wasn’t so big that Arthur had to hold part of it to move. The elegant buttons drew the eye to the shape of his back, the way Arthur moved spoke of years of refinement in the art of perfect form and Alfred felt as if it was too distracting. The bow called to him drawing his gaze, so elegant yet so simple to unravel making it a true tease, just a small tug and that’d be it--
It was a heady daydream that he forcibly reigned in, battling with his instincts to do so. He dropped Arthur’s hand when he was left no other excuse to keep it. He felt his hands balling as he brought himself back. It couldn’t be further from the reality. This was exactly why he hadn’t wanted Arthur to try it on. He had been worried with good reason, but now it was confirmed, and he didn’t like that knowledge of himself.
“I was wrong before. I mean--it’s lovely, it suits you well.” He attempted to pull back, but his hand had already managed to linger, grazing at the fabric of the skirt. He took a step back, hoping some physical distance might help.
Arthur was praised and suddenly the dress felt hot on his skin. He wasn’t sure what he had been expecting much less how to react. Alfred’s unexpected actions had caused his breath to shorten, his heart to beat faster than he wanted. “Oh. Thank you.” He coughed to ease the tension he felt. Alfred had given him a compliment. He could feel how pink his cheeks must be and that only made it worse.
“Oui, but isn’t it much more than that?” Francis was suddenly there taking hold of his arm. “Arthur I must say you look like it was meant for you. Mr. Honda was right it fits you like a dream, it simply must be yours!” Francis pointedly looked at Alfred.
“Yea, of course. We’ll take it.” Alfred’s voice was strangely hoarse. “A gift, something to remember by…the place of course.” They exchanged a glance and something in Alfred’s eyes held a line of heat that made Arthur’s heart quicken again. What a traitorous emotion.
“I can purchase-” Arthur scrambled for his coin purse.
“Do you mean to insult me then?” Alfred’s words were so formal that Arthur stopped. He sounded so a gentleman like that.
“No I just-I can-” he scrambled to cover himself again, now starting to get flustered.
“Arthur allow me.” Alfred’s easy grin returned with only a small edge to it. “Just cause I live out here doesn’t mean I don’t know how to treat an omega proper.” Alfred’s gaze spoke more than his words could, there would be no defying him.
Arthur nodded, his hands clasping over each other, then moving to fiddle with the fabric unable to keep still. “Thank you Alfred. That’s generous of you.” Alfred gave a nod and walked with Mr. Honda to the counter to discuss the payment.
“Well well well!” Francis dramatically fanned himself. “Now we’re getting somewhere!” Arthur turned to face him. Alfred’s presence had washed him away to the background now he came to the forefront.
“I’m afraid I don’t follow.”
“Come now Arthur it’s as obvious as day and night. I can see now how fortunate you are that I have arrived.” Arthur scoffed.
“I’m sure whatever you are imagining, not that I care to know, is distorted.”
“Hmm, if you insist though if anything I feel this place has done you wonders.” Francis had an annoying smile in place.
“How did you come to such a conclusion?”
“You aren’t quite as…prickly here or perhaps that isn’t quite right. It might just be you’ve met your match.” Francis gaze returned to Alfred drawing Arthur’s own to him.
“Mr. Jones is certainly no match for me,” Arthur spoke hotly, crossing his arms.
“Calm even breaths mon cher you’re getting awfully red.” Francis threw in one last cheeky response before Mr. Honda reached them.
“Mr. Kirkland please allow me to make some final fittings on your new gown.” Arthur followed glad to be rid of Francis.
Mr. Honda worked just as before, quietly and efficiently. Arthur had to admit he’d never received a gown this quickly. It usually took some time and corrections. Perhaps this type of garment was more forgiving than others. As he wondered over it, he couldn’t help but end up wondering about the creator himself.
“Have you lived here long?” Arthur’s curiosity got the better of him. It was only polite to make some conversation however.
“I moved here seven years ago. Originally, I was just passing through, but something about the place called to me. Inspired me I suppose. The people have been kind and I have never needed much. I have been very fortunate.” Mr. Honda gave a gentle smile as he spoke. He did seem truly happy, Arthur felt a pang of envy.
“Does your mate approve of all this?” Mr. Honda chuckled.
“It’s all a bit of a long story I’m afraid I wouldn’t know where to begin with that.”
“You’ll have to tell me sometime then, perhaps over tea?” Mr. Honda stepped in front of him adjusting the waist, he paused to look at him.
“You are peculiar Mr. Kirkland.” Arthur wasn’t sure what he’d said to prompt that response. “I’d be happy to visit you. I do love the Jones Estate, Alfred takes wonderful care of it. It’s no wonder he’s so respected.” Oh. Right. He shouldn’t be extending invitations to a place where he was only a guest, he blushed at his own impudence. Somehow though he doubted Alfred would mind.
“The grounds are lovely.”
“Yes. It’s that type of scenery that’s inspired this set I’m working on, the feeling of walking through a never-ending field. Domesticity, with the touches of a past life. Forgive me I do get carried away when speaking of my craft.”
“No-I. I do understand.” Arthur could feel that connection to fashion as well. His interest had started from his mother but had grown a life of its own.
As he gazed at his reflection, he felt it truly was a lovely piece. Something that fit in this place with all its wildness and forestry. That Alfred had been the one to purchase it for him, that he’d thought it suited him after all, made him feel odd. As he was worked on he couldn’t help the feeling of lightness entering his body. It took him a moment to realize what he was feeling was happiness.
In the end Mr. Honda got the measurements he needed to make the final alterations. The dress would be sent to the estate as early as the end of the day, which was the fastest service Arthur had ever received. He complimented and thanked him for the lovely work, promising to return soon.
They had spent enough time in the store that he’d grown an appetite. Arthur wasn’t sure how they were to dine, but now that he had been eating so well, it wasn’t a need he could ignore as easily.
“I know of a place a couple blocks away that serves fine food.” Alfred spoke sensing Arthur’s need.
They walked a couple of streets. Arthur admired the craftsmanship that he could see. There were buildings in progress, the smell of fresh wood followed. The buildings looked newer than he was accustomed to and each store front was decorated with charm. A bookstore quickly piqued his interest.
“Oh what about that place down there! That sign is certainly eye-catching! Is it a show, an opera perhaps?” Francis could never keep his thoughts quiet, but Arthur still glanced towards the place he had been indicating. It was on the other side of the street where a building looked to be in the final stages of being built. Down that alley you could see a place nestled into the crook. There was indeed a large sign promising food, a place to lodge, and musical talent. Arthur didn’t have much of an opinion until Alfred stepped forward.
“That’s a saloon. Definitely a place to steer clear from.”
“Mr. Jones surely you know what must come to pass when you deny me.” Alfred chuckled, the sound filling him up from the inside out. Though he teased for once Arthur wasn’t particularly taken with the idea himself. Was such a place clean? Although he was intrigued by the possibility of drink and he couldn’t deny there was some curiosity. He might have read a book or two that dealt with these places. Naturally he’d never been allowed in a bar, this might be his one chance to see what the fuss was all about.
“Nonetheless, it can get dangerous and I hardly think your families would approve.”
“Aww, I’m sure both of you are more than enough to keep us safe. Come Arthur this is exactly why we came! To experience it all before debut!”
He’d been ready to move on, but those final words quieted him. He hadn’t thought about his debut in a while. His mind having been busy with other things. Even if time seemed to stand still in a place like this, that wasn’t really the case, sooner than he realized he was to return to London and then…
In that moment Francis made up his mind, crossing on his own. He stepped into the street careful over his shoes, at the same time a cart was running by. It happened instantly as Matthew flashed by Arthur rushing to half-push-half-scoop Francis across the street away from the near collision.
“Watch where you’re going!” A woman shouted as she continued on. Arthur had a hand over his heart. He noticed that Alfred was by his side, close, his arm laying curled around his waist for just a moment as if Arthur had been the one in danger. He dropped it quickly, but Arthur could still feel the print of it on his person causing an unwelcome sensation in his stomach.
“Are you alright?” He asked, his gaze focused intently. Arthur nodded his heart not slowing even as the danger had passed. “Good. It seems like at least one of y’all has learned not to be so needlessly reckless.” Alfred’s voice was gruff at his ear. Arthur flushed the memories returning once again. He looked towards the ground, but his mind quickly supplied distraction. Would he ever offer the same lesson to Francis? Bile filled his mouth and a feeling welled up at the thought. He didn’t want that. He almost couldn’t stand the thought. The ferocity of the emotion shocked him back into the present.
Alfred was offering his arm and Arthur unable to say anything took it as they crossed correctly.
“Is that enough excitement for you then?” Arthur instantly scolded as he reached them, his anger flashing into his scent. How could he be so foolish as to run into the street without a single look?
Francis looked pale. His hands were gripping tightly to Matthew’s vest. He turned to Arthur a sheepish smile forming as he did so. “I suppose I did get a little ahead of myself.” Francis looked up at Matthew his eyes sincere. “Forgive me.”
“Please next time allow me to accompany you.” Matthew had a peculiar red tint across his cheeks. Arthur figured it was from the exertion since he had no scent to clarify, betas could be difficult to read.
“I won’t forget.” Francis seemed relieved with the response, his cheeks flushing. After a moment he spoke with the same enthusiasm as before. “I could use some water, after all this trouble we might as well follow through.” Francis looked between them before he settled his gaze on Alfred.
“Mr. Jones please I implore you. I don’t think I can walk much further in these shoes. I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling the strain of the day, Arthur and I are not used to so much exertion. Please take pity and indulge us our adventure. I promise we’ll behave just as you ask.” Arthur felt appalled to be used again, much less in this manner. Would the man ever learn any shame? He didn’t know what Francis thought he was going to accomplish using him of all people to try and gain sympathy. Alfred would rather toss him out than show care--but no that wasn’t true was it? Alfred had shown him much care in the past…
No, Arthur was sure it was only because of his father. Didn’t it always come back to him? Their contract for the summer. After it ended Alfred would never give him another thought.
“…s’pose for a bit, we have come this far..” Alfred was rubbing a hand over his mouth and chin as if he was still not amiable to the idea. Then why was he agreeing? “But I’ll have you stay close at all times.” Alfred tugged on Arthur’s arm as if to emphasize almost causing him to topple over onto him. He truly needed to re-evaluate that strength of his, not that Arthur wanted to be dwelling on that.
“Of course!” Francis took Matthew’s arm and began gleefully walking towards the saloon. Arthur rolled his eyes but followed suit. He was still tightly bound by Alfred and as they stepped closer to the entrance his grip only tightened. It made him feel safe as they passed through the doors.
The saloon was one large open room. The first thing Arthur felt was the smoke and the scent. It assaulted his senses. A mixture of strong Alpha scents permeated the air. Arthur placed a knuckle to his nose crinkling at the combination. He found himself holding tighter to Alfred not that he appeared to be letting go anytime soon.
The room was open but sectioned off. There was a bar where most of the occupants sat at. Several tables around there for dining Arthur imagined. There appeared to be a stage, but the curtain was drawn. There were only a couple of people dining. Furthest to the right there was a staircase. He wondered what lay above. Alfred and Matthew allowed them the time to sate their curiosity.
“Welcome, welcome oh my don’t y’all make the cutest pairs!” A friendly omega hostess greeted them. She had auburn hair stacked up in curls on her head. There were flowers and jewels interwoven on top. Though he wasn’t accustomed to it, that wasn’t what shocked him.
Her outfit was impossibly tight around her bosom, it continued down to her waist. Her bright pink skirt was hitched up to the side high enough you could see her black heels and the beginning of laced stockings. It looked as if her outfit was meant to reveal more if she moved. She didn’t seem bothered by the staring. It was Francis who spoke first.
“Wow I-I must make a comment. Are those pearls in your hair?”
“Aww isn’t it kind of you to notice! I put em in this week actually, add a little bit of fancy sparkle dontcha think?” Well they did add something he supposed. Just what kind of place had Francis dragged them to?
“They are lovely I think I might get some myself.”
“Mmm they’d look just darling in your hair lovely as it is. My it looks like silk!”
“Oh thank you, it’s always nice to be appreciated.” Francis seemed to have found his confidence again.
“Come let me take you to your tables! Sorry they’re not really made for groups. We bring out the bigger tables at night for the card games well we can scooch two together maybe..”
“Two separate tables will be fine.” Alfred spoke, but Francis wouldn’t be denied his quip.
“Mr. Williams if you’d be so kind, I’m afraid Mr. Kirkland has made his selection long before I.” Francis voice was cheery and nonchalant. Arthur tried to reign in his urge to beat the other in public. He blushed. Whatever his agenda, he could not be allowed to continue as he was. Besides a glare he didn’t respond not daring to glance at Alfred yet as he was led to a table by the side.
Alfred pulled out his seat and as Arthur took it he realized belatedly they’d be eating alone this time.

Wildest Dreams 9/18
Warnings: D/s dynamics which is basically traditional omegaverse ; discussion of death of a loved one A/N: Story is going to pick up next time.
A sprinkling of dust kicked up as Alfred moved to open the door. Arthur’s eyes darted up for a second as a wisp of that wheat hair came in sight, before hurriedly stepping in. He was careful where his hands touched and kept his head down, but he still couldn’t escape the aroma of forest scent that hit him as he passed onto the seat. Their bodies didn’t touch, but it was close enough to feel the extra heat that came off him. He uttered a brief word of thanks as he tried not to breathe in.
Francis on the other hand seemed to want to take his time. “Thank you kindly Mr. Jones.” He struggled with the step, requiring Alfred to hold him up, his hand at his back. “Oh such a solid arm you have there must be all the work out here..I imagine.” Francis laughed, Arthur felt himself seethe. He crossed his arms, his foot beginning to tap on the floor.
Before he could think too much on it, he was grabbing hold and pulling. Francis fell in. “Oh! Ow!” Francis settled into his seat rubbing at his wrist and adjusting his clothing. He wore a much more subdued ensemble today. A white summer dress with flowered embroidery at the hems. There was a yellow sash wrapped around his thin waist tied in a bow at his side. His sleeves made of the same thin material. On top he was wrapped in an intricate shawl with roses embroidered into it. It was completely sheer and appropriate for the weather, more for decoration than of any actual use. It matched his parasol.
“I could have done with a more gentler assistance.” Arthur rolled his eyes glancing out the window. The day had hardly begun, and he’d already grown tired of him. “Where is Mattheau?” Arthur ignored the question, ruminating over why he had thought this would be a good idea in the first place.
Right his own words had landed him here that and Francis’ idea of good dinner conversation the night before.
“Oh we simply must go!” Francis got a twinkle in his eyes that was impossible to fight, though Alfred had not yet faced it.
“Into town? No, it’s no real place for your type.”
Arthur had been enjoying his food, mashed potatoes with chicken in a creamy sauce. Gleefully stuffing his face with a bread roll, it almost saved the evening for him, when the firm words crossed him.
“What do you mean?” Alfred’s eyes landed on him, but Arthur kept his gaze this time. It was difficult, those blues holding something that always made him feel off, but he adjusted.
“It’s just better if you remain here where you are safe from unsavory folks.” Alfred took a bite of his food. The word caught Arthur’s tongue enough that he looked at his plate. An issue of safety?
He adjusted himself in his seat, flashing back to a day he’d rather forget. He felt his face heat. For all his trouble he couldn’t misplace it, not the act of discipline nor other aspects, namely how Alfred’s brazen hand had felt upon him. It was indecent, but he couldn’t help the feelings that stirred. He tried to close them off when he wasn’t in the privacy of his bed. He’d never received a resolution, sometimes he’d wonder if it had happened at all, but no it was impossible to imagine that.
It was just a town, one many times smaller than London. Alfred must think so little of him if he didn’t think he could handle it. That bothered him more than the brush off.
Francis interjected, “you can’t keep a beauty like ours cooped up like this Mr. Jones, tsk tsk it won’t do. Every flower needs to see the sun; besides it would be a crime to keep me from the world.” He gleefully took a sip of his drink. He’d been trying to drag Arthur into conversation all night and it seemed he’d finally done it. Matthew gave a light chuckle but remained silent. It was obvious he was amused by the newest arrival.
“It’s not what you’re imagining.” Alfred seemed careful with his words. “Not what y’all accustomed to.”
“As you like to say so often I think we could be the judge of that. I have to say I think it’s a splendid idea. Unless of course you don’t think you’re fit to keep us safe.” Alfred set his fork down, the clank it made louder than polite.
“Look darlin’ that is certainly no issue, it wasn’t meant as offense it’s just...” Alfred trailed off and Arthur tried to ignore how that single word had set his stomach upside down. He only hoped he wasn’t showing it. Alfred always spoke with absurd language, it didn’t mean anything.
There was a tense silence where their eyes never strayed before Alfred decided with a sigh. “It seems like they’ll be no dissuading y’all,” another sigh, “I was headin’ into town tomorrow.” Arthur settled, his body releasing tension he hadn’t realized he’d been holding.
Now as he looked out onto the land he wondered. He had no idea what to expect having been too afraid to ask afterwards. They moved along relatively smooth despite the bumps in the road. Alfred knew how to maneuver well, which didn’t surprise him. He always seemed more comfortable with things that required his hands, or a physical approach.
The fields, the land of this country was beautiful with a wildness to it that felt like it couldn’t be restrained. He loved looking out at the sprawling grounds that stretched on and on, yellow and green mixing. Wildflowers growing every which way with nothing to deter them. Arthur lost himself in it so that before long they had arrived. The town didn’t look too big, but there was a scattering of buildings. Considering they had been on a large farm estate the bustle created some interest.
“Ooo those look like some charming fashions! We simply must stop in Arthur.” Francis pulled on his sleeve, Arthur turned towards his view. There was a shop with flowery writing, on display were modest fashions. Arthur had to admit he did enjoy his fair share of shopping, it was one of the few areas where he was allowed to express himself, but he didn’t want to let on that he agreed.
“Perhaps we shall.”
“I’m sure London has a far greater selection, but there are a couple of local designs here. Kiku owns that shop.” Matthew spoke looking up from his journal.
“Are you taking notes?” Francis asked, his eyes captivated. Matthew smiled in return. Arthur had to admit he hadn’t taken much notice of the man, but he seemed to be speaking more now. It was probably a side effect of having someone like Francis around. He had never inspired conversation like he could not that it was a talent he necessarily wanted.
Arthur let him be, attempting to exit for some fresh air. Alfred had been opening the door at the same time, which left them face to face. Alfred in his ever present ‘casual’ look. Even casual meant a certain decorum to him that obviously wasn’t adhered to here.
Today Alfred wore that brown hat he seemed to be fond of. It added an allure that he felt embarrassed to feel. Along with a dark blue long sleeve that looked more like he threw on as an afterthought. He had the sleeves rolled up. Why did he feel the need to reveal so much skin? It was a hot day he supposed. Underneath he had on a white shirt. Arthur’s eye was drawn over every fold of the cotton as it stuck to his sculpted torso. It looked broken in, as if he wore it so much it was a second skin. There was a note of comfort in it that made him wonder if he wore it to bed? Arthur immediately scolded himself. Thinking of an Alpha’s bed chambers was a sordid thought that had no place in his mind.
Did he wear these abhorrent shirts on purpose, or did they simply not make a bigger size? Arthur scowled, the insufferable heat entering his face. From this angle he had a better view of his broad shoulders, just how thick they were, the material strained to cover him and if possible, he hated it more. Alfred offered his hand as if nothing were amiss, a tentative grin in place. Arthur looked at it before he realized he didn’t have much of a choice. He placed his own delicately on top, his nerves on edge. Alfred’s grip was hot and a little rough, like the man himself, his mind supplied unbidden.
Arthur stepped out quickly trying to focus on the ground, his hand pulling away instantly until Alfred’s thumb pressed down keeping him in place. His pulse elevated as his gaze swept over him. Arthur looked at their hands and Alfred seemed to realize at that moment releasing him.
“Come Arthur we simply must explore this place!” Francis shouted out. Arthur turned to find Francis being held up by Matthew, his light summer dress in a proper poof around him. He had been wearing white airy stockings underneath with simple cream boots, more suited to a dirty terrain, but still not quite a match. Matthew looked confused as if he weren’t sure how this had occurred, but carefully set Francis down. “Thank you my sweet.” Francis gave him a wink and moved to lock arms with Arthur. “Come, come!”
Arthur was unceremoniously dragged until he fully came back to himself and pulled away, looking at the shop they had made it to. The one from earlier. Francis had already gone in, clearly excited.
He stepped inside taking a view around. The floors were light wood, that carried a clear scent. It caught the sunlight and reflected it warmly. It was a larger shop than it looked from the outside. There was more room in this land and they clearly took advantage of that. Arthur looked towards a rack of pre-made gowns, headwear lined on top in various shapes and patterns. Fabric adorned every corner. Shoes that looked imported were on the other side. It was clearly a shop designed for omegas. Arthur moved towards the displayed clothing. It was unusual to see so many considering clothing was made for each customer, but he thrilled at the chance to see what was offered on the other side of the world. The designs looked to be made to show off the skill of the maker.
He flipped through the designs, a small smile forming. There were certainly some dated fashions, but also new ones he’d never encountered. Some gorgeous shirts with delicate see through embroidery. It was delightful. He busied himself touching and examining.
He had always been fond of dressmaking, one of the few skills he hadn’t minded learning. He didn’t get much of a chance to explore it outside of his embroidery these days, but it didn’t mean he couldn’t appreciate the fashion others created. It was easy to see there was a lot of creativity and thought in this particular seamstress. Something about it felt like it had an omega’s heart in mind and that pleased him. He wondered if he could order a piece or two.
“Is there something ya like?” Alfred’s voice was a little quieter than usual, more reserved for the man. It was enough that Arthur didn’t feel his usual awkward mix of feelings. Alfred wasn’t looking directly at him but admiring the hats on the top. His expression was a bit confused, clearly out of his element here. Arthur turned back to the clothing stopping at a simple long-sleeved cotton shirt. The design was mostly in how it was stitched creating lines and bunches. Some might think it plain, but Arthur liked it.
“I’m still looking.”
“I gotta confess I don’t know much about fashion myself.” Arthur turned appraisingly at him. That ridiculous white shirt, a simple brown belt, jeans and at least this time his shoes were proper for a city tour. They were dark brown with minimal wear and tear, but he supposed it would be impossible to avoid that altogether here. There wasn’t a need after all. He doubted there were many balls to attend in this town.
He chuckled to himself. “I can see that.” Alfred turned to him, sharing his grin.
“Alright fair enough, I kinda walked into that. What can I say, I enjoy the simple life.” Arthur continued laughing, the image of Alfred showing up as he was at a ball now entering his mind. Did he even own formal clothing? Were those boots as formal as the Alpha got?
“You don’t say Mr. Jones. I’d never have guessed it.” Arthur couldn’t help himself.
“S’pose I earned that too.” Alfred chuckled before speaking again, his voice relaxed which gave it a deeper resonance, “I don’t have the right look for these fancy fashions.” Arthur sobered in his disagreement, thinking Alfred’s looks would certainly lend well to high fashion. His build was more than ideal for an Alpha.
“Maybe. Maybe you just don’t have the mind for it.”
“Oh? I think I do alright dressing myself, don’t see why you’d need to change year after year. Why change something that ain’t broken after all, sounds like a mighty waste to me.”
“I suppose you can’t ask a simple mind to do complicated calculations after all.” Alfred chuckled.
“Alright, alright I s’pose all those fancy institutions back home taught you the ‘proper’ fashion too.” Arthur froze and for a second everything was quiet.
“What is it? What’d I say?” His scent must have given him away as Alfred’s teasing tone evaporated.
“No-it’s. My mum was the one who taught me about fashion actually.” Alfred stayed silent, giving him time to continue if he wished. Arthur busied himself with the clothing in front of him. “I had tutors for everything, but she taught me to sew herself. My earliest memories are watching her dress for a ball.” Arthur almost forgot Alfred was there as he spoke.
“She sounds like a fine lady.” Arthur held tighter to the shirt in his hands unsure. With a breath he spoke again.
“She...was.” He coughed before continuing, setting the shirt back in place. He wasn’t in a hurry to continue and he wasn’t ready to look up yet even if he could feel his eyes on him now. “Many say she was the finest gem, the rare and unblemished omega. To me, she was just my mum.” Arthur placed a hand on his neck fiddling with the stray hairs he always had. “She taught me a lot of things. I’d say my finest points are due to her, but she passed when I was still young so..”
“I’m sorry Arthur.” Alfred was closer now, his hand came down so that the tips of his fingers brushed on his arm, his back. The touch was soft but felt jolting to him.
He didn’t like to think on his mum. Much preferred to bury those feelings away. It had been a long time ago now. “It’s fine, it’s been many years. Father says more than enough. Any more and I’m just feeling sorry for myself right.” This time Alfred’s response was immediate.
“No-look at me.” Despite being so fearful before, those words made him glance up instantly. Alfred was near enough he could see the emotion clearly in his eyes. He didn’t shy away from it. Arthur expected pity, but instead there was only kindness, a tenderness and somehow that was worse. Something pulled at his chest, embedded deeply and he suddenly wanted to cry. “It was a great loss. I understand you don’t wanna discuss it, but if you let yourself heal someday it won’t be so bad. It might always hurt, I lost my nana years ago too, I was closer to her than my parents and it’s-it’s just not something to dismiss. I just--know that I get it.” Alfred dropped his fingertips then. Arthur was disappointed at their loss, and the deepness of that feeling shook him out of his daze.
He turned back to the clothing. “Thank you Alfred,” he managed out, his voice more open than he ever allowed. Alfred seemed to understand the discussion was done. Arthur was surprised he’d said this much, he never talked about her, but fashion always reminded him the most of her. Alfred laid an arm against the stand, leaning on it, his demeanor shifting to playful easily giving Arthur the distraction he needed.
“Maybe you could pick a new style for me to try, since you got the ‘eye’ and all.”
“This is an omega shop if I’m not mistaken..” Arthur couldn’t hold back his grin.
“Very funny, there’s a small alpha section in the back..” Alfred ran a hand through his hair. “Actually there’s somethin I’ve been meaning to tell ya.” Alfred spoke quietly taking a glance behind. He looked odd, his brows pulled together and just a bit uncomfortable? “So before you meet em, Kiku is a bit…eccentric you could say. Last I was here he tried to wrangle me into some things. They were fine garments, but it all felt a bit uh stiff ya know?”
“I can only imagine.” The thought of Alfred being poked and prodded at while meant to stand still was enough to amuse him again.
“And who is this?” They both turned to see a short omega. He had a kind smile and dark hair to match his eyes. He wore a crisp fashion that felt rich and decadent in fabric. The color of his shirt was royal blue. The pants were black, high waisted and fitted far more than he’d seen around here. A daring ensemble that instantly intrigued him.
“Hi Kiku, this is Art-Mr. Kirkland, he’s stayin over at the ranch with us. This is Mr. Honda.” Arthur was still a little taken off guard by such an introduction, but he did his best to follow. He didn’t yet see what had worried him.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, this is a charming establishment. You have quite the eye for materials.” Mr. Honda’s eyes flashed.
“Thank you, I certainly appreciate such fine company in my shop, if I may?” Mr. Honda eyed him, his hand raised with his palm up as if he were asking for a dance. Arthur stared bewildered for a moment before taking it. Mr. Honda clamped down pulling him slightly forward. He had an unusual strength for someone shorter and slighter than him. Arthur didn’t have much time to think as he was spun with his arm.
His outfit was tasteful and fitting for a day in town. His top a loose, cream-colored shirt with intricate embroidery of leaves and stems along the right sleeve where the cuff was. The same sleeve was made of delicate see-through material to allow cooling but keep modesty. He enjoyed how this type of fabric felt on his skin. His shoulder was covered but it was still a tad revealing by his own standards. On top of the shirt he chose a simple pale green vest that was cropped, the elegant buttons in the shape of roses, were his favorite detail. His pants were maroon and were as tight as society dared. Arthur preferred that fit. His boots were a medium brown, the tops of which had a simple lace frill that wrapped around his ankle giving them character even though you could hardly ever see it. They made it clear they were Wells, the premier shoe-maker in London.
“Wells, Margaret and Lisa designs. A very good eye indeed.” Arthur couldn’t help but smile. “I wonder if you might indulge a smaller designer. I just can’t shake the feeling..” His hands slid downwards around his waist. Arthur almost jumped at the touch.
“Pardon, sir!” He was about to push back when he stepped back on his own a blush across his face.
“Forgive me I got ahead of myself. It’s not often I see someone like you in my shop. Would you mind terribly, I feel I have a design, a new line, I’m calling it Marigold, that would look marvelous on you?” Arthur stared blankly for a few moments.
Alfred stepped in. “Kiku, he’s just a guest here. If it’s the one you were working on last I don’t think he’s the type for that err particular line.”
“And what do you mean-“
“Oh no, not this again, it’s not an insult! I swear it on all the stars above. I’m just lookin out for ya.”
“Well I-” Arthur turned from Alfred to face Mr. Honda instead the new energy making him bold. It irked him that Alfred didn’t think he’d fit the design when he hadn’t even been given a chance. “I’d be honored to try it on for you.” Mr. Honda’s eyes widened in excitement. He took hold of his hand instantly pulling him towards the back of the shop. He gulped hoping he wouldn’t be made a fool for this.

Hello! I've been thinking about accessibility and stuff like that lately, and have been contemplating making pod fics of some of my favourite stories - and since you're one of my favourite fic writers I was hoping I could get your opinion. Do you have any issues with people making audio recordings of your fics? What kind of crediting would be appropriate if you allow it? That kind of thing! Thank you for your time :D
Hi! First of all sorry for my late response on this. I did want to quickly answer this in case I didn’t get another moment. This was honestly not something I ever thought I’d be asked about, it’s very flattering! I didn’t know what pod fic was so I had to look that up. I really appreciate the compliment, but at this time I don’t feel comfortable with the idea. I just don’t think my fics would translate well to audio, sorry!

Anon 1:
That sounds so cute, god knows I love my tropes. Amelia just being so into her sport that she doesn’t really notice her scrapes and stuff, but of course pre-pre-med(that’s what she wants to be in this au lol) Alice zeroes in and patches her up all while scolding(she’s actually just worried about her obvs). It’s so great????Yes please. OR like Alice having such a giant crush on her??cliche high school romance?HELL YES
Anon 2:
lmao can I just say I love the title you gave Alfred here, imma use it. I’m glad you’re liking it, and looking forward to it. I was working on it yesterday actually(okay I added one line, but it counts) and it’s at 2100+ words now so I think it’s going to be a longer chapter than usual since I still have a couple scenes I want to write. I might have to split it, but I’m hoping not. Thank you for your interest!
