i’ve been thinking about the whole “ryuzaki is an act”/“L stole the ryuzaki persona from B”/“first!L and ryuzaki are completely different” theory and i’ve decided that, personally and at this point in my life, i only half accept it. the half is because the idea is intriguing to me and because obata mentions only officially settling on a design for L after his official introduction (a nice bit of authorial parallels there). but, on the other hand, because the whole thing is left ambiguous, i am sort of inclined to believe that “ryuzaki” is just an amplified version of L’s real personality. the character had to be somewhat genuine, because he knew he was going to have to keep it up for months. the clothes and the hair didn’t really change; the hair just got a bit straighter. L doesn’t really eat that much, in the grand scheme of things, but there’s no way he would subject himself to all that sweet food unless he actually liked it (or at least could tolerate it). the sitting position and the slouch are strange, might be leftover habits from his childhood. anyway all of this is just conjecture, i really appreciate both sides of the argument, and this post has no conclusion, i’m going to just end it before i ramble for another 20 minutes, lmao
