An anime where the art style seems to have a huge problem with Same Face Syndrome, all the characters fall under like 5 diferent types and every single person of the roughly same age and gender look like the same damn character wearing different wigs. There's a whole episode about how someone changed their haircut and the protagonist spends the whole episode trying to awkwardly avoid situations where they'd be forced to admit to the New Hair Person that they actually aren't 100% sure which friend they are.

Halfway through it turns out that the protagonist is face blind. The art style is deliberately like this as a way to illustrate how they can't fucking tell most people apart by face alone.

Uncomfortable facts of life:

Nobody's going to magically swoop in to rescue you. You can't just sit there and expect someone else to come save you. You have to get your shit together and do it yourself.

About 90% of the time, the "it" you have to do on your own is pushing yourself to walk up to someone else and use your words to say "hey I need help."

Getting blacklisted from trading with local fae because you've been paying for their favours with stuff like childhood dreams and the memory of your mother's smile, trading their goods for what would have otherwise been absurdly highball prices, but then they found out that the things you've given them in return are worthless because they mean nothing to you. After going no-contact with your family you just wanted to get fucking rid of all of the things that are attached to them, and if you could, you'd give your memories of them away for free on craiglist.

The thing about aggressive age-verification procedures is that they're a sign of a low-trust society. It's the sign of a society that expects people to be lying a lot. That's not a good thing for a society to be, even absent other factors.

I've spent the past few months living in Austria, and one of the things that has really impressed me about this country is how much it... trusts me. Transit works via the honour system. Nobody tries to card me when I buy beer. When I explained my usual prescription to my doctor here, she didn't try to persuade me I wanted something else instead. You can buy a vibrator from a vending machine.

And it all just works. The transit system is well-funded, the ERs are not full of dead drunk teens (it's hard to do too much damage to yourself with the weak-ass beer here, especially if comparatively few people drive), and nobody seems particularly fussed about it. This is the safest, cleanest, and happiest city I've ever seen. I live in what is broadly considered to be the worst part of town, and it's miles more pleasant than the nice parts of some North American cities I've lived in.

Nothing destroys trust more than enforcement. And if you have enough trust, you don't need enforcement. Isn't that better?

The thing about fiction is that there's stuff that's completely gone from your mind in a few years but there's just some fragment or tidbit about it that follows you around forever.

Like there was this webcomic I read like 15 years ago, remember fuck all else about it but there was a character in it whose name was Saves A Fox. When she was asked about it once she explained that her people are big into prophesies and fate, and that children are named after something they were fated to do. She always hated that. And this one time she unexpectedly walked in on a wild fox gorgeing itself on her food supplies, and she knew that this was it. The fox wasn't even skittish, it wasn't trying to escape, it was almost tame, looking at her gently like just expecting her to choose mercy and let the food thief go. And everyone around her was expecting it too. But while she didn't want to hurt the poor creature, she hated the thought of having her future dictated for her even more than that.

So she snapped the fox's neck. Just to prove herself and everyone bearing witness that she had free will and wasn't a pawn of any fate or prophesy. Needless to say, her community did not like that.

Later on she learned about what rabies is. The fox she had killed had rabies. She had saved the fox from a far more terrible and slow, painful death.

Relationship statuses and how much I doubt it if you add "happily" in front of it:

Happily single: I have no reason to question that, nobody else gets to decide how you feel, and I'm happy for you.

Happily dating: Kind of weird that you'd feel the need to clarify. You know you don't have to date someone who doesn't make you happy, right?

Happily engaged: Same as previous, but more so. You know you should not be getting married to someone who doesn't make you happy, right? I'm not leaving before I know that you know.

Happily married: Could go either way tbh, but most likely you are. If someone's not actually happy with their marriage, it shows, no matter what they say.

Happily divorced: Yeah this one I have no reason to doubt. Nobody says they're happy about being divorced unless they really are happy about it.

Happily widowed: I wouldn't doubt that you are but girl did you kill him.
