the one thing i'm gonna say about rg liking that reel, and i beg you, read it through, is we can and should drop a celeb like a hot potato and stop supporting them if their core beliefs are harmful but he's just a drop in the bucket. rg is not that famous and the people who follow him with this level of dedication are mostly fandom engagers who are already aware to some degree about gender equality or have fundamentally left aligned values.
we can all collectively agree to cancel him but that's not gonna make a difference. the real bad guy here is the white religious reactionary cult crafting insidious social media videos that appeal to hundreds of thousands of regular people enough that they don't realise it's alt right bullshit, enough that they're willing to overlook the stuff they don't agree with or sounds silly (recycled toilet water come the fuck on). the first comment on that reel is a woman defending public education and gender equality but agreeing with the rest of it.
the problem is not that rg liked it and may or may not agree with all the statements, he's just one dude. the problem is that a lot of people will disagree with some of them but be disenchanted enough to join that lifestyle, and after a while they'll renounce that one belief they were holding onto. the problem is we can point and tell from the outside all we want and celebrate the people who made it out as heroes, but the people inside and the people on the fringes need the help. fuck rg. i'm talking about your aunt who is distrustful of the USA medical system and likes baking from scratch. i'm talking about your childhood friend with a food allergy that is swarmed by alt right homesteading videos because they wanted to look up allergen free recipes. the alt right exploiting that pipeline is not accidental, it's a move out of the Nazi propaganda playbook, find dissatisfaction and pin the blame on something ambiguous enough that lots of people buy into it.
alt right cults are the real enemy.
the "they're monsters" narrative negates that regular people can be manipulated into joining evil belief systems.
calling out rg is basic human decency. calling out the cult and educating people on the dangers of that kind of discourse is actual activism.

the problem is that i dont think eddie diaz as a character is actually dealing with any kind of internalized homophobia. his problems are much more complicated and worse. but ryan guzman is, and this flavours the performance. so you can see why people get confused

love the idea of buck finding someone on a dating app and going on a casual date. they both have a really good time. maybe they sleep together maybe they don’t. but the date ends up looking up buck’s insta after it’s all over and of course sees so many photos of eddie & chris all over buck’s page. and this is why eddie one day randomly gets dms from a total stranger apologising and confessing that he should know that his husband’s stepping out on him. eddie our totally normal guy doesn’t clear any of this up and just says thanks for letting me know. then blocks the guy.

the 'nobody knows how to talk to you' is my favorite bit of 8x17 kitchen scene because it's so specific for Eddie. he's not getting anywhere in 8x16 when he said he should have been there because Buck immediately stops that by saying 'hey, you're here now'. then Buck is worrying about others, including Eddie who is living in the same house, but asking specifically from a grief assessment. then in 8x17 he's again unfamiliar when he's not pushing for more conversation after Eddie tells him his regret of not being able to save Bobby. things seem better after Chris and Pepa come as a surprise, but then the next episode Eddie finds out that Buck had already asked for a transfer. the distance is so loud, especially for Eddie who has always known how to reach Buck. it's like Eddie lost both Bobby and Buck while he was away, and only one of them died.

No, I'm gonna tell you. You're moving back in with me, whether you like it or not. Because you're my kid. You'll be my dad again? I've always been your dad. And I'm gonna start acting like it.

actually the thing that drove me crazy about the will reveal in 4x14 is that just 4 episodes ago, in 4x10 Parenthood, Buck and Eddie answered together about both parents being good cops. so during that time Eddie knew that Buck was sitting securely in his will as Chris' guardian. he knew that when he was teasing Buck about his idea of too much discipline

the difference in Buck and Eddie during prison hostage episode is loud in multiple ways but one of my favorites is how Buck can't intimidate both escaped prisoners with either words or actions. he's big and tall and neither his words nor his demeanor instills any nervousness in both kidnappers. meanwhile Eddie was making Mitchell eat his bravado with nothing more than words and annoyed calm. there was a gun pointed pointed at him but he was in charge of how they left that ambulance. they're partners and they have each other's back but it's their differences that make them work better. if they were the same then Buck wouldn't have left the ambulance at Eddie's word and Eddie wouldn't have known Buck would listen to him about prepping for the heart transplant.
