Those words. He didn't think he'd heard them before. Or at least, they were so far back in his memory and dulled by everything else that they'd become insignificant. But they weren't that way any more. They hurt, he felt so much pain when he heard them. But it was such a relief that he could feel that any more that he was thankful for it. He was thankful that it stung and left a raw mark somewhere on his soul, like it had been held over a burning candle for just the briefest second. Yet somehow he knew, he knew the words were coming. Severus knew that she loved him, it was in the very way she breathed, said his name, looked at him. It had been, in how ever small an amount for a while now. "I know." was all he muttered, and did as she asked.

Looking back, Aly had no real clue as to how they had gotten to where they were now. From almost cruel, antagonizing banter, to meaning so much. Alecto knew how messed up she was, how unpredictable and unstable she could be. She knew how damaged she truly was. But with Severus, she didn’t feel broken. She felt like the scotch tape and glue and bruises that held her together were almost beautiful. The doubt that always crept into her mind, the things that splintered her, seemed to disappear. No matter what she’d done, he hadn’t given up. Hadn’t left. Even when she’d broken down, or been vulnerable, or tried to hurt him. Even when she’d run away. And that meant to much to her. So many people manipulated her, left her, lied to her.. And Severus hadn’t done that. He’d defended her and stood up for her in ways she could never truly thank him for. All she really could do was tell him the truth, as he had means to find it out anyway. Yet he didn’t. "I love you," she whispered.

She mattered to him. She stood for so much, most things that he wanted out of life could be easily found with her, and that was why he'd followed her so easily into something unknown. Alecto was similar to the girl he'd idolised throughout his teenage years in so many respects. Her fiery nature, her willingness to accept people (as accepting Ophelia Ollivander as a friend was about as accepting as one got) and her rather direct sense of right and wrong, even if she chose never to follow it. Yet she had something so different than the redhead had. She had love. And he loved her for it. "Your point being?" he asked gently, staring down at her.

"About things that really matter. And people.." she sighed. She wasn’t good about talking about feelings. She never had been, it always seemed unnecessary. But then, maybe that made it all the more necessary to actually put things into words. "And you matter a lot."

Oh, she wanted to talk. He soon shifted slightly, making himself comfortable as he wrapped his arms around her. A rare moment, he would make the effort. Severus listened intently, pressing a kiss to her forehead as he did so. "About what?"

Alecto cuddled into him, resting her legs on his lap and her head against his shoulder. “You know, a lot has happened recently, and it’s made me think. A lot. Too much, probably…” she murmured quietly.

He nodded, wand soon away in the pocket of his robes. That was enough destruction for one evening, it seemed. Sitting next to her, and quite obediently for him, he stared over at her quite calmly, though did worry, ever so slightly, what all this was about. "Yes?"

"Come sit with me," she smiled, patting the couch next to her.

"A lovely little curse I made myself. Sectumsempra. Use with caution." he muttered, repairing the chair with a wave of his wand.

Alecto gasped once more. “What was that?” she asked, watching the fluff and feather fall from the fabric onto the couch and floor.

His smile widened, before he cast sectumsempra at the cushions of a nearby chair, staring at them as they were torn to pieces. All silent spells, of course. The sense of pride he felt in her encouragement was something he'd not experienced before, and he decided he quite enjoyed it.

Alecto watched in shock as she watched the flowers turn to rock and then disintegrate. She gasped, and put a hand over her mouth, before laughing in amazement. “Credit where credit is due,” she smiled. “That was very cool.”

He smiled ever so lightly, a horrid air of cruelty invading as soon as permission was granted. Severus stared around the empty common room, finding a few wilting flowers in a vase with which to target. With a flick of his wand, they seemed to slowly start to freeze and grey, turning into stone. They then promptly exploded, shattering into pieces.

"I would, actually," Alecto snickered, crawling onto the sofa and curling her legs beneath her.

"Well, I do know a few lovely little spells, if you'd like to see those."

You’ll get praise if I think your work is worthy of praise.

"Yes, I didn't think I'd be getting any thanks in any case."

Then add away. I’ll sit here.

"A few things, yes. Though, highly secret, of course."

Oh, and you’ve things to add to my notes?

"Oh, my apologies. I merely thought it could do with some annotation."

If you’re going to take my potions book, at least ask first.

"Mulciber. Be a dear and seek out Lestrange, will you? I fear he's getting too big for his boots."

"You have my attention, Severus."

"My apologies, you've caught me in a bad mood."

"Oh, which?"
"Oh, I’m glad you’re so surprised," she muttered.

"I tried out one of my potions. It worked exceedingly well, actually."

"Keep your head down and stop being such a materialistic little twerp and we may see some progress."

"Alright, I’m still rather confused as to what you want from me."

"What is discussed away from the ears of the likes of you is hardly any of your concern. I act as the link between yourself and The Dark Lord, I really could ruin your chances should I take a dislike to you, Jenkins. He trusts me, is assured of my loyalty. Therefore he makes sure that all of you scum do the dirty work."

"Mm, I have no idea why that is. What have you even done to prove yourself? Because by the looks of things, you’re getting people to do things for you."

"Oh, do calm down. He's not dead. Maybe only because I've chosen to keep him alive, but still."
"Wha-?"
