The Joker's iconic look is a fun little pop culture fossil. Like, he's not a circus clown or a birthday clown or a rodeo clown or any other kind of clown you might bump into today: he's specifically a vaudeville clown. We don't have those anymore, so that specific type of clown is now just "the Joker".

#okay so here's the thing#my favorite poem has been hanging on the wall of grandmother's house as long as i can remember#with the only attribution being 'author unknown. copied from the library of [great great grandmother]#that poem is my favorite in the entire world and i have never been able to find more information about it#the title is Extravagance - (That's Me!)#it goes a little something like this#we know her wants were many: and we know her needs were small: we know she has to pinch and scrape to get along at all!#so passing by this morning it seemed a curious thing. to find her in the garden planting pansies in the spring#now pansies aren't expensive but beyond the slightest doubt: they are little bits of beauty she could really live without.#her shawl was thin upon her; her bonnet worn and frayed; and those pansies meant a savings which we thought she could have made#she guessed what we were thinking: for she seemed to hang her head. we all have some extravagances excuseingly she said.#some people squander money upon their appetites; and some indulge in pleasures from which only sorrows come#i shall wear my shawl this winter; and make my bonnet do; if i suffer for my folley i can smile and fake it through.#we all have whims and notions; to which through life we cling; and my weakness is for pansies blue and yellow in the spring#anyway yeah i've known this poem since i was little.#used to sit in our room reading it on repeat and staring at the preserved pansies in the frame.#my second pick is do not go gently into that good night by dylan thomas if we want poems other people have heard of before for answers
