Wtf. The more you know? Ugh.
Chanel was never tried for her crimes as a collaborator. She used her connections, information, and money to pay off the right people and cover her tracks.
She was briefly arrested and questioned by a French judge, but basically got off scott-free and allegedly told her family that she was freed by Winston Churchill.

Today is a peculiar day with a peculiar story of peculiar people. This is a picture of my sister's first birthday oh so many years ago. Every year on this day, this is the photo I think of. Our dad is supposed to be in this photo, but he couldn't be there because he was picked up by #immigration and #deported to Nogales where he spent several days trying to get back. My mother had waited for him to come home from work to take this picture. But he never showed. This picture isn't just a photo commemorating a #birthday in the family. It is a photo that adds a face to the #migrant story, to the story of families that struggle for a better life. It also reminds both me and my sister @oly_17 how lucky we are not only to have a family that gave everything for us, but to live in a country where we don't have to live in constant fear of #terrorism, economic hardship, or persecution because of our gender. I know this probably wasn't what you were expecting Oly, but this is what I think of on your birthday. Happy birthday! Remember how blessed we actually are.

Another reason to dislike the TSA.

This woman was detained and told to leave the airport for being trans
Shadi Petosky just wanted out of Orlando, Florida. On Monday night, Petosky, a 35-year-old transgender woman, attempted to board a flight at Orlando’s International Airport when she was detained by the TSA. The reason? An “anomaly” — her genitals. The TSA does have a policy for treating trans fliers, but there’s just one problem with it.

New comic! (link)
This week I am very happy to present a collaboration comic with my friend Chrissie, who has been generous in sharing with me her experiences of gender dynamics in a technical field, and then helping me craft them into a comic narrative.
Whenever I see Chrissie’s work I’m always impressed at the cool, creative things she does. When we were discussing this comic, she told me: “I find men persistently try to direct me lots now too, which is probably the biggest problem I consistently run into”, and my feelings around that fact are a terrible and familiar blend of frustration, sadness, and lack of surprise.
When we talk about the differences in how men and women are treated professionally, especially in technical fields, we are often dismissed with ‘everyone has to deal with that’, or ‘women need to demonstrate more confidence with their skills’, or ‘they’re just trying to be helpful’, or ‘it’s all in your head’.
It’s frustrating when we know something like this is happening, but we spend so much of our time actually trying to get people to believe that it’s a real phenomenon. I find narratives like Chrissie’s validating in that she has a comparative set of experiences and is like ‘oh yeah, people totally think I’m less competent at my job now. it’s totally a thing’. So, can guys just believe us already and get on helping it not happen?

Second costume of the night was nowhere near as popular as El Chavo del 8...especially not when next to Ace Ventura. #halloween #pirate

This. Yes. This!!!

This is a short work that I made for the annual Ledger Awards. Which is the big Australian comic awards.
It’s called Baristasaurus and is about a cute dinosaur who’s also a barista (get it?) and suffocating existential dread. I hope you all enjoy it!
