I remember when Lou first had Katie. Oh man, her and Peter would be up all hours of the night just feeding, changing diapers. I actually don’t know how they managed. That’s gonna be us soon, you know? I guess nothing can really prepare you for parenthood, but if anything could, having these foals is pretty good practice, don’t you think?

Our summers are short in the northern country

...So, we make full use of each warm day. Sometimes the spring will fool us and send some warmer days to enjoy, but we usually don't see true summer temperatures until June. My horse Hawk always loves a dip in the river, no matter the temperature! Photo by Shawn Turner

2024 Amber Marshall Calendar: FEBRUARY

The horses do not seem to mind the cold weather

...in fact - they seem to prefer it over the heat of the summer. I find all my horses run and play more in the snow, and love chasing one another around the pastures. Since Cruz is the "go all day" type of horse, he is usually my pick for adventures. My dog Rein has the same mentality as Cruz, and I never have to worry about wearing these two out!

Farewell Nanny Betty

We lost our alpaca to old age this past year and I wanted to include this photo from a previous photoshoot to remember her. She was such a great member of our herd for many, many years and would take such great care of all the calves. We called her Nanny Betty, and never had to worry where the young ones were as she would always be close beside them.

2023 Amber Marshall Calendar: DECEMBER

Hawk always looks so handsome in his seasonal best.

Tis' the Season! One of the most honest horses I have ever had a friendship with. Hawk has been with us over a decade, and I can always count on him to take care of his rider. Sometimes we will even hook him up to a winter sleigh to make the most of the snow-covered winter scape.

2023 Amber Marshall Calendar: OCTOBER

Yellow on yellow.

This time of year never lasts long, but it is definitely one of my favourites! The horizon lights up with a yellow glow as the aspens prepare for the long winter. My palomino Cruz fits right in to this landscape and I try to get in as many rides as I can before the leaves glide down to their spot of winter rest.

The countdown is on for the Season 17 premiere on Sunday, October 1st. The release of Heartland's new season is less than a month away! Here's a behind-the-scenes clip of our poster photo shoot shot live, on location, by Calgary-based photographer Leah Hennel.

Leah's work will be well known to the Heartland fans as her photographs stand-in for Jessica's. The first time we saw Leah's work was in Season 16, episode 6, when Jessica puts on a gallery of her work in New York City. Leah shot Amber Marshall, Shaun Johnston, Michelle Morgan and Chris Potter at a location near the Dude Ranch during golden hour. The light could not have been better.

2023 Amber Marshall Calendar: September

Slider is still young, but I like to push him a little.

As we loped along a trail in our back field he took to leaping over the fallen trees. Maybe I will have to switch my western saddle for some English tack and see what this little roan Quarter Horse can do!

I hope you are alright. I know Amber hasn't been posting much lately but you either.

Did you ever here this? Its a different version of When To Let Go by Amber and Shaun.

Thanks for checking in! I'm doing well, but life has gotten busy and pulled me in different directions.

I've posted more on Instagram than here, but I'm hoping to continue on soon with my "Amber Marshall in every heartland episode" gif series.

And no, I don't think I knew there was another version of that song. Such a great song!

2023 Amber Marshall Calendar: AUGUST

I will never say no to a good cow cuddle.

I mean, who doesn't make time in their day for some cow cuddles? If I don't get home early enough for a ride, you can usually find me out in the pasture. I love soaking up the last of the evening light while listening to the gentle sway of the tall summer grass.

Summers are made for riding with friends.

My summers are often far too busy to enjoy an evening ride, but when I do get an early day, it is one of my favourite things to do. Those who have spent time in the saddle know there is no better way to clear your mind.

2023 Amber Marshall Calendar: JUNE

Sweet old Betty girl.

This quiet alpaca has been on our farm a decade now! Unsure of her exact age we suspect she is in her later teens. She has always spent her time out with the cows, and I do think she believes she is one. At one point I brought home a couple alpaca friends for her, but she spent the four months they were here avoiding them and spitting on them if they approached her. She is happiest spending her time with the calves on the farm - and is very nurturing.

2023 Amber Marshall Calendar: MAY

Shedding the old to make way for the new...

I always love when our animals shed out their winter coat revealing a fresh new summer look. My horse Cruz seems to change colour the most as his dark palomino colour emerges after the winter. Avoiding the mud is the biggest challenge and this tall handsome blondie gets his fair share of spring baths!
