Reading #4 | INTRODUCTION from Video Art Theory : A Comparative Approach by Helen Westgeest
Problem of the General Characteristics of Video Art
This point caught my eye due to the multiplicity aspect of the definition of video art. The author’s perspective of the various definitions of video art broadened my horizon on how to approach a computer-based art form such as this one. With this I have gained a greater knowledge of what it means to consider a piece of art as a work of true video art.
Medium as a Concept
This key point struck my interest based on the given possibility of various perspectives from the potential spectators of the given art piece. The author’s perspective highlighted the possible view points of others that I would have never thought of whenever a piece is freshly produced. This taught me that as an artist for every work I create there is always room for a view point that sticks out above all others critiques.

Digital Art Runway Assignment
“Let Us Dream” was drawn from the Michael Jackson quote:
“Let us dream of tomorrow where we can truly love from the soul, and know love as the ultimate truth at the heart of all creation.”
Once I discovered the pixel MJ dancer on GIF Dance Party, he became the center icon of my GIF for I am a true fan of him and his music. This King of Pop is an artist I have tuned into ever since I was a child. As of for the other dancers, they were chosen for the purpose of being a formal aesthetic. All of which were made to pop out against my Silk-made background.

Title: Fresh NY
Date: February 3, 2007
Medium: simple paint programs, photocopiers and consumer printers
Artist: Tom Moody
Title: Gold Machine Cosmos
Date: January 3, 2011
Medium: science animation
Tom Moody and these selected pieces of his work caught my attention with Moody’s use of color, texture and balance. His concepts derive from the symbolic premise of “ any receptor surface on which objects are scattered, on which data are entered, on which information may be received, printed, impressed - whether coherently or in confusion”.
Artist: Nicholas Sassoon
Title: Ridge 1
Date: 2016
Medium: digital animation
Artist: Nicholas Sassoon
Title: Lost Hours
Date: 2014
Medium: digital animation
Nicholas Sassoon and these chosen GIFs absorbed full focus due to his use of harmony, space and balance with color. Sassoons concepts appear to originate from his fascination of the digital world and how it functions with color and movement.
The role of GIF art today is to add an even greater sense of movement throughout the artwork while maintaining the elements of art and principals of design to enhance the artists’ vision. The personal connections I sense with these artists and their work is the use of color, balance and space. The theme important to my selected artists are the variety of colors we encounter throughout our lives.

Reading #3 Color Theory Basics You Need to Know by Silka P, Natalie P and Nadia Herzog
What is Color Theory?
Left: Additive Colors / Right: Subtractive Colors
Color Theory is is the foundation behind the science of color; the way each color came into existence. The author describes this term with a more in depth meaning than what most would think of this part of the artistic world. She entails this as an aid in the “inner sense of order and a balance in the visual experience”. With this definition of color theory in mind, my art shall advance in color through an improvement in my techniques with various mediums.
History of Color Theory
Leonardo Da Vinci writings 1490
The history of color theory was built “around ‘pure’ or ideal colors” and dates as far back as the 1400s. The first principles of color theory were drawn from the writings of Leone Battista Alberti and Leonardo Da Vinci. However, it wasn’t until the 18th century this theory truly came into light due to Isaac Newton and his perspective on primary colors. This part of color theory history provided by the author testifies the origin of color. Therefore enriching my knowledge on how the color artists utilize today came to be.

Project #2: Digital Collage - Adventures in Surrealism
Theme: Narrative
Surrealist techniques: Dislocate your Subjects, Change the Scale of an Object
This piece is a narrative that expresses the what one form of life can do for its environment. The dog in this image I’ve pieced together is my yellow laborador retriever dudley, a breed of lab that is twice the size of a regular laborador retriever. His name is Bob and he has brought joy to anyone who has crossed paths with him. My use of color, texture and other forms of life highlight that extra spark of liveliness that his personality projects onto others.
Elements of Art: color, texture, form and shape
Principles of Design: unity, emphasis and balance
