What gets to me about the whole "gifted" child bullshit is the assumption that those who weren't in "gifted" classes didn't suffer, have less opportunities in life because of standardized testing, like they weren't screwed over by the education system. Knowing how to read, having access to college, resources, etc. is a privilege. This is completely leaving out the rampant abuse that goes on in special education classes.

Nothing slapped my shit back into place like someone pointing out that the "genius gifted child with so much potential who got burnout and mental illness" is just the nerd equivalent to the jock "could have been a pro at sportsball if it wasn't for the injury".
