Post Process Volumes

youtube
I was experimenting with how I can make the game appear more like the artist's work but this didn't really work out since it didn't fit with what I was going for at all...

youtube
Then I came across this method which made the game appear more the style I was looking for which I was satisfied with...

youtube

The main goal of the game is to collect all the pages in the game so to make it easier for the player to find the pages they could follow the light...
End Card

I wanted to create a way for the game to end, so I made the journal the object for the player to try grabbing for the game to end...

Textures to the World

Textures I made for the houses as well as the walls and the main gate for the town...
Textures I made for the landscape and the trees
Houses
Trees
Assets
Assets that I didn't use in the game
The reason I didn't use there for the game was because I felt it was unnecessary since they have no significance with the artist

Yes/No/Maybe
to make my process more efficient when creating the game i decided to organize my list of assets to see ones that are a must for the game, ones that i could add but not needed and ones to completely discard
Needed
Pages
Key
Lock Puzzle
Maybe
Lamp
Journal
Nope
Map
Creature
Official Changes Made
I decided to make the lock and key idea out of the game since it would be too time consuming, so I made the game primarily on the player collecting the pages and finding the journal which belongs to the artist
Final Concept
The final concept is that you are in a dream in one of your paintings and in order to leave you need to find all 8 of your missing pages along with you journal...

Final Concept
For the Concept and Story I decided to make the final a horror game where you find yourself in a painting and discover a journal with missing pages, you try to look for these pages but as you do you realize you're being followed by a haunting presence that roams around the town.
There are 10 missing pages and you must find them in order to find a way to escape it.
You discover your only way out is to head to a cabin outside and leave through a painting that will take you back into the outside world
To make the process of creating the game more time efficient I decided to make the whole game take place in this map rather than create two worlds, since making the game appear more like a sketch and a painting.
The sketch style would take place in the town but the nature outside of the town will have the style of the watercolor.
The Journal
The Journal serves both as an objective as well as a guide to help the player escape. The journal was written by the artist (creator of the world) on how he created it as well as how to escape it, the journal serves as a survival guide that will help the player...
Objective:
You must collect all the missing pages that will contain a piece of tile that will help you return back into the real world
Assistance:
Each page serve as a guide to help search for the next one, and clues that will help you escape the painting
Puzzles
I want the player to not only find their way out but also get their way out by completing a puzzle. So I thought of the idea of the player finding tiles with the pages and use them to help him unlock the door to the real world
This idea was inspired by the anime Shadow House where the main characters find Feves and the main character puts them together in the shape of a key which ends up unlocking a door...
I wanted to create a similar concept where the tiles would form a lock for the player to put the key in so that they may unlock the door...

Fran Bow
My Inspiration behind the use of puzzles in my game are inspired by a game called Fran Bow that is about a journey of a young girl and her cat that are in search for a way back home...

Slender: Eight Pages
The idea behind the player looking for pages to complete a task was inspired bye Slender: Eight Pages. Where you are being chased by slender man and your goal is to look for all the eight pages around the forest. This idea was originally meant for the first Level of the game however I wanted it to be on the second level instead so that the player will focus exploring the world around them by simply collecting notes and items that will help them in retuning back into the real world...

Map | Normal World
First Level | Wall Painting in the Sewers
In this I plan to make this world a horror game where the player will have to get to the center of the maze in order to escape it, as the player tries to find their way to the center of the maze they will be followed be a creature that will catch them. To get to the center the player must solve puzzles to unlock paths that will lead them to the exit...
Style for this level:
Second Level | Painting in the Cabin
This level the player enters a maze where they collect notes written by the author to learn more about the world and why it was made, and most importantly how to exit it...
The player will need to collect stuff in order open a door or a portal that will bring them back into the outside world...
Style for this level:

The Painting Inspiration | Narnia: The Voyage of Dawn Treader
youtube
This was the inspiration behind how i thought for the player leaving the painting
I thought of the idea that the painting would make itself a part of the cabin that the player would find themselves in when leaving the painting, like branches or plants from the painting would grow out of it...

Stage 1: How it Begins
This was my original idea of how I wanted the game to go, I originally wanted to provide the choice for the player in giving them the choice of what path they would choose to go...
However, it felt like it didn't make sense and decided to take a more simpler approach...
I decided to make it start off more as a horror game where you have to collect either pieces of the map to get to the center of the maze to enter a portal that will take the player in to the other world where they has to collect pages of the creator of the worlds in order to find a way to exit it and return back into normal world again

Concept Ideas | The Journey Through William Alexander's Art
Original Concept: So for my Idea for the game is basically about a person in a painting of William Alexander who makes a journey to find out about the world he's in and tries to discover how he can leave it.
This is in relation to the games that sort of break the forth wall and try going beyond the boundaries of they universe it takes place in.
This game will be a simple collecting game where the player will have to search for specific items to complete tasks for each stage...
New Concept:
For my new concept I plan to have my game about a person who could be an aspiring artist that discovers a hidden world created by an artist and finds a way to escape it...
The player begins to find themself in a maze where they are being chased by either a Spirit or a Creature, the player has to escape the maze by reaching to a portal that will take him to the next level
The next level is where the player will have to collect items that will help in returning back into the real world...
I thought of the lore behind the world could have relation to William Alexander.
