Exactly!!!!! You put it into words.
Upto the point of donald getting re-elected I wouldn't have considered safety as a valid argument. But now it absolutely is. The man is a dictator in the making if not already and that is a dangerous enemy to have. She is a target and a huge one at that considering her influence, and not just in America. Even if she can't convince people to do shit (which she absolutely can because certain parts of the fandom have no critical thinking whatsoever), she can make people aware. She can have them look once, twice, maybe even three times or atleast consider another perspective because she is taylor fucking swift which is to say she IS the trend. Also most of her followers were women before the eras tour and after the re records the fanbase has a lot of teenagers/ young adults. They are the future voters. The very people that determine a re-election. Even if she can't tell them what to do, she can make them look again. And mr donald duck recognizes that. Trashing her is him trying to take away her power and credibility which isn't working for him. If she were to speak out on issues during his term, he could very easily hold people she loves hostage. Because she is untouchable but her circle isn't. People keep forgetting that she doesn't live in a vacuum. There's people that have made entire careers out of just analyzing her. She and her name hold immense power. She is a target. Not a victim, yet. And honestly it's smart of her to stay safe. She's doing all she can by donating quietly. Is it enough? Not nearly, no. But, would doing more put her loved ones at risk? Definitely. Donald cannot touch taylor swift. There would be riots. But he can sure as her take her family. Saying it again, she is doing all that she can. As we all are.
I've been seeing an influx of people saying "you shouldn't support Taylor Swift because she hasn't spoken up about xyz" and it's like... y'all realize how dangerous it would be for her to speak up about things in the current climate we're in right? T*ump has pretty much put a target on her back. She has had literal terrorist threats at her concerts and y'all want her to fly on a public plane?? Stay at a public hotel?? And you also need to take into account that what she says doesn't only affect her safety but affects the safety of the people who work for her, her friends, her family, her boyfriend's family, and even her fans. Of course she's going to choose her words carefully and choose what she can and cannot publicly endorse when the most powerful man in the country she lives in and his insane followers have a vendetta against her. There's only so much a security team can do to keep her and her people safe. Trust me, I would love for her to speak up about the issues going on in the world as well but she has a lot of lives in her hands and staying quiet- as much as it sucks- is the safe thing to do. People get mad at her for "being friends" with MAGA people but 1) as I said above it would be very dangerous for her to not "play nice" with people she will have to see until if/when Travis changes teams and 2) we do not know anything about her personal life!!! She could not even consider them friends and just be being nice to the people who are essentially her boyfriend's co-workers. And yes I know I'm giving her a lot of the benefit of the doubt but it's because again I don't know her personally!!! And can only take the things she herself has said and done as proof of her character. And I'd like to believe that the woman I've been a fan of for almost 20 years is genuine in her words and actions. Maybe that makes me stupid or blind or whatever but I like to actually believe in the good of people instead of doubt them.

Every time I see a post that says traditionally-published books are better because they've "been vetted for quality" or some shit, I cringe.
Do y'all have any idea how many marginalized authors are passed over because their work isn't "marketable" enough? Do y'all have any idea how many people I've known who gave up writing entirely after facing rejection after rejection after rejection because the trad pub industry deems their identity and their work too "niche" or "controversial" or "hard to market"? Do you know how many authors have been pressured by trad pub to "tone down" their work?
Trad pub isn't sacred. If you genuinely want weirder art, more diverse art, more experimental art, you have got to look outside the incredibly narrow mainstream publishing industry. Fuck's sake. Indies and self-pubbed books are not lesser just because some random lit agent in NYC decided that books about marginalized people won't sell enough in the current market.
I've been running in publishing circles since I was 14. Fuck the pedestal that folks have trad pub on. Trad pub is a fucking nightmare. I've watched it eat people alive and destroy the art they actually intended to make, all for the sake of "marketability." I've known multiple other authors who have confided in me that they wish they'd gone indie or self-pub instead.
Trad pub works well for some people. I wasn't one of them, and neither were several of my other author friends, because we're too weird and queer and disabled and don't give a shit about being palatable to a mainstream audience.
Read indies. Read self-pub. Reject the idea that the traditional publishing industry is the most important arbiter of quality.

Kid today (probably like 6 years) came up to me and was like "teacher teacher what's your name" and i was like "asha :) also im not a teacher" and he was like "okay asha asha asha I need help" and i was like "okay buddy what's wrong" and he showed me this chunk of metal he'd found sitting in the sun that he was just carrying around and it was super sharp and super hot from the sun and he was like "my hand hurts :(" and i was like "ok. put that down. does it still hurt?" And he did and was like "no." and then he picked it up again and immediately went "my hand hurts :(" again and then I was like "kid. put that down and stop touching it" and he was like "ok but when I touch it my hand hurts :(" and i was like "Please Just Stop Touching That. If you dont touch it your hand won't hurt" and this went on for like another 2 minutes before i got him to realize that if he stopped touching the metal it would not hurt. Kids are so fucking weird man

I consider it a moral imperative to depict foreign cultures in fiction so it’s clear their lives are equally as tedious and petty as ours. it’s too easy to imagine eg pagan blood sacrifice was as exciting to them as it is to us, or take their theologians’ word for it that God is everywhere and everything, and conclude that people actually lived in a constant state of religious fervor. this happens in classes about Islam a lot

It's important to have empathy for the hardships of teachers but the teachers should also be able to maintain some level of professionalism when dealing with their students. I get that biases and emotions often can't be controlled but taking it out on a kid who could one day do wonders in that particular subject or career is just inhumane
Something needs to be done about teachers who hate kids tbh

"Oh golden boy, don't act like you were kind. You were mine but you were awful every time. So don't tell them what you told me. Don't hold me like you know me. I would rather burn forever. "
- Selwyn Kane, probably
I still think about how lonely Selwyn was. I already made a post about this, but it still hurts my heart. Imagine how much deeper that wound was made when Nick left him. For some reason I always had it in my head that Nick didn't tell anyone he was going to leave. Even his Kingsmage, because Selwyn could mesmer him or tell on him. Meanwhile Selwyn feels betrayed because while he doesn't completely understand why he left (At the time), all he wanted was a heads up. I still hold firm that Selwyn was punished when Nick left the order. I feel like he never really had a good stable relationship besides the friendship with William, but I also feel like Selwyn was uniquely bonded to Nick (and not just because of the Oath). I feel it in my bones that the moment Selwyn started convincing himself (instead of just others around him) that he disliked Nick was the moment Nick chose to leave the Order. Because it felt like he was leaving him.
