Embracing the Source, [Alviarin] touched that pattern with hair-thin flows of Fire and Earth at two of the interconnections. That would not have been necessary in the Age of Legends, but something called the "standing flows" no longer existed. (CoT, ch. 21)

WeaveWeek - Aug 8
Talk about your favourite character in WoT!
Why are they your favourite? What was the character’s best moment in the show and why was it the character’s best moment?
This one is very easy! Egwene Al'Vere. The reason I read the books in between S2 and S3 was because I wanted to know what was going to happen to her.
I love Egwene because of her hunger to learn more. She's a sponge who you can place anywhere and she will adapt and learn all the she can and incorporate the knowledge into how she interacts with the world. I have a love of learning too, so this characteristic definitely resonates with me on a personal level. She is so smart and I like how she utilizes her brain to her advantage.
I love that she was unhappy to settle for her expected path in life and she worked to chart a new course for herself. I love that she isn't afraid to reinvent what that looks like either. Living a comfy, domestic life with Rand wasn't going to make her happy, so she agreed to become a wisdom-in-training. She learned she could channel the One Power and that the Shadow would soon put the world and her loved ones in danger? Time to go down the Aes Sedai path. I had a discussion recently with @verins-little-notebook and they described Egwene as the "patron saint of social advancement thru career change" and that is so right! I'm currently working towards a career change so, Egwene inspires me to keep pushing forward!
Egwene is also such a strong character. There is so much suffering and torture she endured at the hands of the Seanchan, but she pulls through at the end and is able to get her recompense. Huge huge props to Madeline Madden for her acting in all those scenes.
She also has a strong moral compass, which is perfectly exemplified in her Accepted test on the show. Once she passes, she gets her ring and promptly leaves the Tower. Siuan calls out her duty to the Amyrlin Throne and the White Tower but Egwene is quick to point out that her duty is to the Light. I like that she isn't afraid to call out those in power or push back when she believes it's necessary. I do think the way she owns up to lying to the Aiel Wise Ones was more impactful in the books, but at least the show included it in some way.
I'm so thankful the show introduced me to this world and to Egwene because she has become my favorite character of all time.
Now, best moment on the show? Hmmm. It's hard not to clap and cheer when she kills Renna, but I also really like how she just looks Renna straight on and tells her she's going to kill her some day.

EGWENE AL'VERE BABYYYYY.
I love her drive, her determination, her conviction, and yes, her ambition. (A girl or woman showing ambition is not a bad thing y'all!) RJ's themes around his ta'veren boys are about being forced to accept duty, however I feel it's equally important that Egwene looked around at the literal apocalypse and decided she needed to do something about it. Like, again she and Rand are foils and it is absolutely critical the story that she chooses this path and he is forced into it.
In the books, I believe her best moment is when she sacrifices herself to change the harbour chain. She realizes an extended siege is only going to hurt the people of Tar Valon, so instead she works inside the Tower to win over the Aes Sedai. As a prisoner, she is re-living her trauma of being captive when she was damane. Despite this, she demonstrates to the other Aes Sedai that she embodies the traits important to each Ajah, truly becoming of all Ajahs and none. She wins over the Tower without bloodshed, a stark constrast to Elaida. (and THEN gets to fuck up the Seanchan raid, yes queen)
In the show, I think we got the first glimpse of this arc when she stood up to Ishamael trying to protect Rand. Now before y'all jump at me, OBVIOUSLY Ishamael was playing with her, of course he could have obliterated her in a second. The difference is that she STILL stood up to him to buy Rand time, and Ishamael had been clear ALL SEASON that he did not want to just outright kill Rand, he wanted him to join the Dark. So, Egwene was just leverage to him, to try to get Rand to turn, which he certainly would not have had Ishamael just killed her. It still showed her bravery and commitment to fighting the Shadow, and her willingness to give her everything to do so.

My love language is my bestie on her trip to Scotland sending me pictures of things she’d think I’d like and it’s homoerotic propaganda posters from the military history museum and stained glass church windows. And she’s right.

Does Mat ever change his clothes in the first two season? He's wearing the same linen shirt and green coat in his first scene at the inn in Two Rivers in 1.1 and in his last on top of the tower in Falme in 2.8, and I don't think we ever see him in anything else. Sure, sometimes he accessorizes with a blanket, or takes off the green coat, but I can't recall seeing him in anything else.
I know he was on the run, or possessed by a dagger, or locked up in a cell, for the majority of that time, but surely he could have changed clothes at some point in Tar Valon or Cairhien. Even if he was broke Moraine or Min could have sprung for a new outfit.
And how many different costumes does Moraine get during this time? 😂
(Barney and Dónal both look great in it, so I can't exactly object. But it IS funny.)
First scene in 1.1
This is not his very last scene in 2.8 but it is impossible to search tumblr gifs with any precision and I promise you he does not change clothes in the middle of this battle.
