Fujiko waited patiently as she listened to Lupin messing with his phone, finally pulling her own away from her ear when she heard the beep of a new photo message.
That picture was... intriguing, to say the least. Hard to even make out the kid, what with the messy bedhead now stuck in place with the help of syrup and butter. The girl in the picture was in the middle of waving her chubby little arms around a pile of what looked like ripped up bits of pancake stacked high, the bottom fat and dense as it had absorbed the syrup it was swimming in. Off to the side of it was a mushed white thing, which took Fujiko a minute to recognize as a stick of butter softened and squished by little hands.
Of course, since she wasn’t there, Fujiko couldn’t recognize that the ripped up pancake pile was actually a castle, and the syrup around it a moat, and the butter a dragon. Surely if she’d been there herself all of that would have been obvious to her.
There was one thing Fujiko did recognize, however, and it was the slightly manic look spread across the young girl’s face, an exhilarated Lupin swept up in their devious little plans. There was nothing more instantly recognizable to her than that face.
Any other familiarity she might have seen, she had to contribute to her familiarity with Lupin’s face. Harder to look for one’s own face; maybe if she’d had the faces of her own mother in memory, it would have brought up more distinct resemblances. As it was, she could only find that once face she knew best repeating itself.
After a moment she realized Lupin was talking again, and she brought the phone back to her ear. In time to catch the hesitation in his voice as he brought up his ex-wife, the woman Fujiko didn’t have any trouble finding her face in--even if she hadn’t been able to find anything else.
Was that what this was then? A visit of someone new before the familiar one returned?
“I don’t know--I don’t want to have this conversation over the phone,” she said. And she certainly didn’t want to leave him alone if that visitor was expected, though Fujiko wouldn’t tell him that. “I’ll be there in a bit.”
She was about to hang up, then thought about it and brought the phone back up. “And Lupin? Clean all of that up before I get there--I’m not getting sticky. See you soon.”
Ha ha. Lupin ran a hand down his face. “I’m not high. Look, hold on,” he went to fiddle with his phone and peeked into the kitchen at Fumiko at the table to quickly take a photo. Whether she was a syrupy mess or not wasn’t a big deal just then. But he sent that photo right to Fujiko’s phone.
“I’m not making this up. You see the resemblance, don’t you? She knows about the ring, her last name’s Mine – you don’t…think she…might be…hers, do you?” Either way it certainly wasn’t Fumiko’s fault.
But if this was a ruse from that other woman to get back into his life, he didn’t want to think about it – besides, it’d likely be impossible…maybe.

In contrast to Lupin, Fujiko was slow in her response. She was silent for a time, before replying in a pacriced calm tone "I think you have the wrong phone number. And you're high."
Fujiko alternatively was enjoying her lack of concerns and responsibilities. She was enjoying her own breakfast at the moment, though hers didn’t involve any pancake and it likely wouldn’t end up all in her hair.
Lupin’s texts from the night before had certainly been an oddity, but, of course, so was Lupin himself, so even his mysterious kid-finding wasn’t at the forefront of her mind when she picked up her phone and gave a sweet “Good morning, Lupin.”

Oh, he knew. All too well. But he was sure it would be the least of his concerns right now. Enjoy to your heart’s content, Fumiko. In the meantime he dialed Fujiko’s number and hoped she’d pick up.
He had to stop himself from nervously lighting cigarette, doubting it’d be good for the kids in the house for him to be smoking inside. Ahhhrrgh. Being a responsible parent sucked ass.
Deep breath. Shh. Starting to think like his father at this rate. Chill.
Adulting was hard.

“Time to wake up, my Lupin,” she said quietly, her hand drifting down the side of his face, then trailed across his chest to where he was holding his gun, plucking it out of his limp grip. She put it away, then went back and took his empty hand.
“I got what I needed, so fortunately you won’t have to suffer much longer. I am going to need this, though.” Fujiko knelt down, carefully rolling up his sleeve to expose more of his bony arm.
His lips began to curl into a smile at the sound of her voice, and his hand went limp on the grip of his gun. “Mm, Fujicaaakes~! Hm?” Eyes slid open slowly and he blinked. His scrawny body looked weak, so the mere idea that he could have the strength to pull the trigger of his gun was a laughable one.
In the few hours she had been gone, his dehydration had gotten a tad worse off than before. His vision was blurry when he initially opened them, but he tried to focus on Fujiko’s beautiful form, eventually seeing her gorgeous face become clearer. “F-Fujiko!” he chimed, his smile only growing from her presence.

She did her best, allowing him a bit more sleep while she set up the IV. Fujiko wasn’t going to try to insert it and keep him asleep, though, certainly not while he still had a gun on him.
Fujiko leaned down, toward his side away from the gun directly on the off chance he’d wake up jumpy. She made her voice a soft whisper, and added a bit of affectionate warmth to it, as he might imagine she’d wake him up after a night together. “Lupin?”
Lupin had fallen asleep at some point after she left, but as a precaution, had his gun gripped loosely in his right hand. He laid peacefully on his back, his mouth open agape as small snores escaped his lips. Truthfully, he looked completely harmless, even with that gun.
And since Fujiko came into the room so quietly, he barely made any movement. He simply remained asleep, quiet snores echoing into the room. Whatever his darling Fujiko had to do, she’d have to be awfully quiet to keep him peaceful. The slightest sound, and his grip on that gun would tighten just slightly.

Well, it was always good to keep him on his toes, wasn’t it? Tricking and keeping him at arms’ length could get predictable in itself, so she had to allow for some niceties to surprise and keep him chasing for more. It helped that no one else was around, meaning he’d continue to sound delusional defending her against his partners without any evidence.
That was how she reasoned it out for herself, anyway. No reason to consider feelings beyond that, now was there?
She was back within a couple hours, tiptoeing into the room with a large bag. Didn’t know whether Lupin might have finally managed some rest, so she didn’t want to interrupt it if so, at least not until she’d finished setting everything up.
Lupin nodded. He knew well that he needed the rest, but the honest truth of the matter was, he couldn’t sleep! The pain was a lot for the man, as it felt like his stomach was being stabbed into with a thousand knives. His throat was raw and sore from stomach acid consistently damaging his esophagus. It explained why his voice was somewhat ragged and not quite to its usual pitch.
“Fujicakes is the best!” Lupin mused quietly as he turned onto his side, closing his eyes. While he couldn’t sleep, he could at least rest his eyes, which were just as sore as the rest of his body. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t cry a little during this whole situation. Stress, along with excruciating pain, could really break a man down. That, accompanied with endless questions of why this was happening to him–well, it brought his mood down quite a bit.
When Fujiko grabbed his wastebasket, Lupin opened one eye to watch her. She was being so kind to him right now, he wondered just what her motives were. Sure, he was blinded by love, but even he had his suspicions. Did she really care enough about him? She had to! She was his lover, right? Breathing a sigh through his nostrils, he closed his eye again and relaxed in the bed. A promise was a promise, and he said he’d stay put and rest.

Oh, I knew I could count on you. You’re a real life-saver.
*Quite literally this time. She reached out to take the heavy box, not wanting to spend too much there, especially not to go over the price owed.*
Sure is.
[Responded a little tiredly, reaching to adjust her tie some, but offering a small smile, either way.]
Got everythin’ y’asked for an’ some extras, I guess. Three piece pole that requires like two seconds of assembly, some bags o’ fluid, needles an’ tape an’ gauze an’ tubin’. Bandages, too. Antiseptic an’ cotton balls.
[Breathed out a little exhale. There was a lot in that box.]
SHOULD be everythin’ y’need.

Aw, no need to go so soon, is there?
[He narrowed his eyes at her for that reminder that, yes, while he felt he’d changed his ways since then, what he was doing- having an ongoing relationship with Lupin- was still pretty dirty for a cop. Grudgingly, he saw her point that the audio wasn’t even worth her time anymore and he nodded.]
Well… thanks, I guess. If that’s all, I’ll take Keni and leave you to your wine.

I know you’re thinking I’m tricking you--possible I could have something saved somewhere I forgot about.
*She would have been surprised to hear he even know about the cloud.*
So I’ll remind you that I haven’t been able to use it in decades because I didn’t have a good purpose for it.
You haven’t had another partner I could use it on, Lupin definitely knows about it already, and what--the police force might remember you used to be a crooked cop? I think the fact that you’re living with your assigned target would do more with that than anything here. Really, it would damage my own reputation sooner than yours.
Not to mention that now you’re on high alert for it, which, while hilarious to watch, negates its actual usefulness.
*Fujiko sighed, leaning back.*
What a waste, really.
… That’s it? Just that easy?
[He didn’t quite trust it. It seemed too simple. Would she really just delete everything?
Maybe she had a backup somewhere. On the cloud or whatever. He squirmed just a little, still uncomfortable.]

*She smirked up at him, taking her phone first. She messed with the screen for a bit, pulling up their convo, and found the message in question to show to him. And then deleted it.
Messed around a bit more, showed him her phone’s files, pointed out the audio in question, and showed her deleting it.
She got the computer next, once again finding the file for it, showing him, deleting, and clearing it out. Then she set her devices down, picked her glass back up, and leaned back on the sofa.*
Okay we’re done. Good job.
[Finally, they were getting somewhere. Getting up, he snagged the phone and the laptop, carrying them carefully over to her and setting them them in front of her.]
Alright?

*She was quite enjoying her wine and watching his frustration. But she finally set down her glass, pointing across the room to where her computer and phone lay.*
Oh fine. Bring me those and we’ll get started.
Don’t get your kicks off of me.
[The inspector practically whined, rubbing his face in frustration. She was just going to shit there and sip her whine and laugh at him, wasn’t she. Ugh.]

Oh, but can’t I enjoy the fun of watching you squirm a little longer? It’s so rare to have you so desperate for whatever I want you to do--the potential of it is almost too exhilarating~.
I hadn’t realized you’d made it sharable! This is the internet age! I really don’t need… our night of indiscretion getting out there.
So… so lay it on me, what do I gotta do?

*Charlie wouldn’t have to wait much. Fujiko had given two hours on the dot to come over, not wanting to leave Lupin alone longer than needed, but not wanting to delay getting treatment either (particularly if just to watch him waste away).
She was leaning against the door of the clinic when Charlie came by. Noticed the other’s roughened appearance, but didn’t comment on it yet. Might be a good point in case the other needed a little buttering, though.*
Good evening. I assume that box is for me?

A few decades being a fairly liberal interpretation of “as soon as possible”. I didn’t think you were all too concerned with it even when it was relevant.
[Zenigata folded his arms over his chest and looked at her suspiciousl.y.]
Exactly. And knowing that, is it any wonder I’d want to get out from under your thumb as soon as possible?

“I'll do my best not to leave you waiting too long,” Fujiko replied, seeming to pull away as quick as he leaned in. Couldn’t give him too much all at once--even in this, she needed to keep him begging for more.
“Just get some rest--I’ll be back by the time you wake up.” She moved away from the bed, blowing him a kiss goodbye.
As an afterthought, she grabbed the wastebasked. Really, it should be anyone but Fujiko’s job to deal with, but if the stench got any worse by the time she came back, she’d have to reconsider going in there to help him at all. Best to just deal with it now before it got worse.
Lupin’s cheeks heated up when her thumb light brushed over his skin, and he allowed his eyes to drift closed for a moment as he enjoyed the rare affection he was getting from her. “You’re too good to me, baby!” he told her, affectionately leaning into her hand a little more.
Upon her next words, Lupin’s eyes opened once more and he blinked. “You’re leaving?” There was a short pout, before he heaved a gentle sigh. “Okaaayyy… I’ll stay put right here for ya, Fujicakes! I won’t move a muscle!”
A big grin spread across his face, especially when she planted a kiss upon his forehead, his eyes drifting to the nic view of her ample chest. Boy, what he wouldn’t give to be able to plant his face right there. In fact, as she pulled her lips from his forehead, he weakly moved to try, but realized quickly just how heavy his head was. Disappointed, he plopped back to the pillow and sighed once more.
“Don’t be long, okay?”
