The Months and Holidays of Alba

Well, since this ficverse isn’t exactly set in the real world, I figured months and holidays would change to fit the newer setting. These are, of course, all post-Morganna’s death, as humans and beast people begin to rebuild society in an image more befitting there benevolent goddess.

Some Haseos (+bonus HaseToki) to show the basic design of Haseo in this AU. A sorta mix of Xth and 5th form, for Reasons that are totally self indulgent!

Sb: what do you do for a living?

Ryou: I protect Alba from threats, I speak for the god of death, i'm a housewife to two idiots, i run canard...

Sb: wait what?

Ryou: i run canard?

Sb: no, before that

What’s the deal with Skeith and Ryou?

Ryou isn’t exactly a Speaker in the same way the other Speakers are. He is the one who can hear Skeith, use his power in a fight and let him manifest in Alba... but it’s not a power he naturally had.

In fact, he only gained it when he pissed Morganna off as a little boy. The old mother goddess punished him by having Skeith steal away a large part of his soul, enough that a part became a part of the god himself.

Skeith stole parts of souls from others during what is equivalent to IMOQ in this AU, but while the rest fully recover, Ryou is forever missing a part of his soul. This piece is what allows him to speak directly with Skeith and bond with him on a level the other Speakers cannot with their gods.

It’s also the reason for his hair, his white hair a constant reminder that something happened to him. Something he doesn’t quite remember for years.

Searching for Something Missing...

The reasoning behind the title, I thought I would share it.

Both Kite and Nine are searching for something missing from them. Nine is looking for Aika, a goddess lost for a few years by the time the story picks up. Kite is chasing the missing sense of his feats mattering. The thing that went missing when the boy with stark white hair ran away...

Funnily enough, Haseo, who could be said to be missing the most at the start of his original journey, is the most whole and fulfilled character at the start of the fic -- part of why he’s the POV character.

A deity AU needs Deities, right?

That’s right, and that’s exactly how this AU started out! I decided to take AIs from the canon of .hack and turn them into deities, ruling over different things. Well, with a few exceptions, but we’ll get to that.

When Morganna was the main deity of The World, she outlawed any worship of other deities, even ones she made to help manage humanity such as the Phases. 

If anyone showed any signs of worshipping someone else, they would be killed -- either by Morganna herself or by fearful humans who didn’t want to invoke her rage.

The Phases, in their creation, had a deep connection to humanity, allowing them to speak through specific children. Morganna, to keep the Phases under her control, would demand these children be sacrifced. Of course, not all are, some are hidden -- taught to hold back this power.

Aura, Lycoris, and Cubia were born of a pact by a man not from Alba -- the place this AU takes place -- and Morganna. It was simply supposed to be a perfect child for Harald, but the man’s blood and the Goddess’s power ended up creating three godly children.

Eventually, Morganna is killed and Aura becomes the primary goddess of Alba. Unlike Morganna, however, she ecourages other worship and there are many sects to her religion because of this. Of course, some do choose to only worship Aura.

Cubia, Geist, and Morti are rarely worshipped, as they are considered bad luck. It’s nearly outlawed, in fact.
