The New York medical conference was a 3 day conference that Meredith and Cormac had been sent to by Bailey to represent Grey Sloan.

" Ooh, fancy." Cormac whistled as he and Meredith walked into their hotel that the conference had booked for them. They headed to the front desk and got their room keys.

" Look at that, we're next to each other." Meredith smiled when they got into the elevator.

" Are you going to actually use that room or will you be taking over mine?" Hayes asked with a smirk.

" What do you think?" She laughed as they arrived at their floor. Hayes unlocked to door and they both took a look around.

" Well the bed's comfy. He smiled as he sat on the bed. Meredith smiled back at him and walked to stand between his legs, her hands resting on his shoulders and his running up and down the backs of her thighs.

" I'm glad I'm here with you." Meredith told him softly.

" Me too, baby. Would be a little better if we didn't have conferences to go so we could just be us in this amazing city." He told her, squeezing her thighs gently.

" Well, all the conference finish early afternoons so we can do whatever we want after they've finished. This is the city that never sleeps after all." She suggested, a suggestive smirk adorning her face.

" That sounds so good. I do have an idea of what we could do for the rest of the evening." Hayes told her, tugging her gently to sit on his lap.

" What do you have in mind?" Meredith asked, one hand staying wrapped around his neck and the other stroking his arm.

" We order room service, eat then get in bed and cuddle." Hayes told her then pulled her in for a kiss.

They pulled away and stood. Hayes went and rang room service whilst Meredith got in her pyjamas.

" Food as been ordered." He said as he turned to face her, " that is mine." He pointed to the top she was wearing.

" It's comfier than mine." She shrugged as she sat in the middle of then bed.

" If your wearing that then what am I supposed to wear?" He raised his eyebrow as he slowly crawled onto the bed and up towards her.

" I wouldn't be opposed to you not wearing anything." She smirked as he made his way up to her. She bent her legs and parted them so he could fit in between and cupped his face to pull him in for a kiss. One of his hands found the back of her thigh whilst he used to other to steady himself on the bed. Just as things were about to get heated, a knock on the door broke the moment. Hayes sighed, gave her a kiss on the neck then headed to the door to retrieve their food. As they ate they talked about the conferences that were being held and which ones they were more interested in attending and also talked about what they wanted to do with their free time. When they finished, Meredith placed their tray outside their room so Cormac could get ready for bed. They both got into bed, he turned the lamp off and swung his arm over her waist and pulled her back into his chest.

" Goodnight baby." He placed a kiss on her neck.

" Goodnight." She laced her fingers with his over her stomach and the both drifted off.

Hayes woke up first, a smile on his face when he looked at his sleeping girlfriend. He then began to place delicate kisses along her neck and shoulder, slowing waking her up.

" I could get used to waking up like this." Meredith moaned happily.

" Me too." He smiled down at her when she opened her eyes. They both got up to get ready for the day. Meredith had just stepped into her shoes when she felt his hands take a hold of her hips.

" You just had to wear a skirt didn't you?" His voice husky and quiet in her ear.

" You did say you liked me in a skirt." she smirked as she turned her head to steal a kiss. Hayes laughed lightly and gave a gentle swat to her ass.

" Cheeky. I like it." He gave her another kiss and the both headed out the door. When they got to the ballroom where the first conference was being held they saw quite a number of doctors already in there. As they walked in to find a seat Hayes began to notice a lot of the others staring at them, more specifically at Meredith.

" What's everyone staring at?" she whispered to him as they sat down.

" You. In that skirt." He answered forcefully. Meredith noticed the forceful tone in his voice as laced her fingered with his.

" Hey. It's okay, they can stare as much as they want but I'm yours. You know that, I know that and the rest of the here will be able to see that." She told him softly, giving his hand a squeeze. He was about to answer her when the conference began to start and everyone took their seats. During the conference Cormac noticed some of the male doctors would continuously turn to check Meredith out which made him build up with jealousy and possessiveness; couldn't they see her hand holding his? About halfway through he let go of her hand so he could place it on her thigh.

" are you okay?" she whispered.

" yep, just getting a point across." He whispered back, his hand sliding further up her leg. She smiled and shook her head gently. Meredith knew he was possessive, not in a overbearing way but he liked people to know that she was his and truth be told she loved it. He made it very much known back at Grey Sloan who her boyfriend was and it made her feel amazing. This was something she never experience, Derek wasn't really possessive and DeLuca wasn't at all so when Hayes told her he could get possessive she wasn't sure what he meant but when she finally saw what he meant and how possessive he really could be she loved it and she didn't mind him leaving his mark, both physically and metaphorically. Since getting together, the possessive side of Meredith made its appearance on more than one occasion which has lead to her also leaving her mark both physically and metaphorically. He was hers and she was his.

When the conference was over, the headed to the hallway outside the ballroom to go and mingle with the other doctors. As they made their way through the sea of people, they didn't leave each other's side. They spoke with doctors from both of their fields and when one of them was talking the other would stand next to them, their complete attention on the other. When Hayes was talking to other paediatric doctors Meredith would either be holding his hand or when she noticed some of the female doctors checking Cormac out she would wrap her arm around his waist and curl into him, to show he was not available and when Meredith was talking to other general surgeons Cormac would either wrap an arm around her waist or when he noticed some of the other doctors checking her out he would stand behind her and either hold her hips or on hand would be placed firmly on her ass and the other would be placed on her stomach as her wrapped around him. The conference day was drawing to a close and as they were about to head up to their room one of the event organisers stopped and informed them that there was an open bar mixer for those attending the conference so they could mingle in a more personal environment. They thanked the woman who told them then headed up to their room.

" I don't want to go." Hayes said as they entered their room.

" What? Why?" she asked, taking off her heels.

" Because every guy is gonna be staring at you and I don't like that image, I didn't like it during the conference and they were sober." He explained taking off his suit jacket and undoing a couple of buttons on his shirt.

" You think I liked watching those women checking you out?" she backfired, walking over to him and wrapping her arms around his neck, his instinctively wrapping around her waist, " we could go for a couple of hours then go out after that. Just to show our faces." she suggested placing small kisses on his jaw as she spoke.

" okay, a couple of hours. But I swear to God, if someone so much as flirts with you..." he started until Meredith silence him with a quick kiss.

" If someone tries to flirt with me you have my full permission to do whatever you want to show that I am yours." She told him, " well you can do everything but sex. As much as that would send a clear message to everyone I doubt either of us wants everyone to see us both naked." she chuckled. He laughed and nodded his head in response.

" Okay baby." He kissed her forehead then turned to his bag to get undressed. They decided to have some food before heading to the mixer so they got changed then headed to a restaurant across the road. They ordered and made small talk, her hands playing with one of his as they were waiting for their food.

" Not just me that's getting checked out." Meredith commented as her eyes flicked round the restaurant and noticed many of the women staring at Cormac.

" Now who's getting possessive." Cormac teased, pulling her hand up to his mouth and placing a gentle kiss on her knuckles. Their meals came and they ate in comfortable silence, it was nice, they both thought, to be somewhere just the two of them and be a proper couple with no nosey sisters/sister-in-law, being able to see each other properly instead of only seeing each other for quick kiss and hello every 36 hours because of how hectic they've been recently and also being able to wake up to each other without 5 kids bounding their way into the bedroom at 7 in the morning.

When they had finished their meals and paid they left to go back to the hotel to go to the mixer.

" It'll be fun." she told him, interlocking their fingers.

" I thought I was the optimistic one?" He laughed as they entered the hotel. They headed to the bar to order their drinks and as they were waiting for their drinks they began to notice the glances and the stares directed their way.

" You'd think my hand on your ass would be enough of a hint that were together." Cormac whispered in her ear, squeezing her ass and kissing her neck quickly.

" Clearly they need something bigger than a hint." Meredith winked at him and as she passed him his drink. He was about to make a suggestion when they were approached by 3 general surgeons from Boston General. As Meredith and these 3 were talking Hayes excused himself to the bathroom, as he was about to go in he heard a couple of the conference speakers talking about Meredith.

" Did you see her this morning? In that skirt? No idea what she's doing with that Irish guy." One spoke as he was fixing his tie.

" No idea. Why don't you go over and take a shot? " The other suggested. Hayes didn't stick around any longer as he knew what was gonna happen. Instead, he walked back over to where Meredith was collecting a new drink ad pulled her to him.

" Hey, what's going-" She started but was cut off by him kissing her. She could tell this was him showing the room that she was his so she very quickly responded in kind. Her free arm wrapped around his neck, one of his hands was on her lower back pulling her in and the other cupped her cheek. They both knew everyone was staring but they didn't care.

" I love you." He told her as they pulled apart.

"I love you too." She smiled up at him then pulled him in for a hug, " I think that got the message across."

first kiss

innocent teasing. that was what they did, in the OR, the attendings lounge, anytime they were together they would innocently tease each other. until it was no longer innocent.


Meredith and Hayes were scrubbing out of a kidney transplantt on their 17 year old patient.
"well, atleast he'll be able to give his girlfriend that kiss now." Meredith commented.
"first kisses are always memorable."Hayes answered.
"have you had your?" she asked, drying her hands.
"i was married, Grey." he lauhed, drying his hands too.
"i meant since Abi died." she elaborated throwing her hand towel at him which he easily caught.
"no not yet. why? youu offering?" he raised hs eyebrows.
"what?no.. i.. that's not.." she stuttered.
"relax Grey," he held her arms, "but i wouldnt want anyone else otherr thn you too be my first." he whispered in her ear.
"and if i offered riht now? if i asked you to kiss me?" she whispered, her brething getting a little lghter. both of them felt the shift, that their teasing had opened something new.
"well then." he leaned in, his lips a hair's width away from hers, Meredith closed her eyes in anticipation. she gasped when his lips made contact with her neck.
"your gonna hav to ask me first." Hayes winked at her when she opened her eyes then left the scrub room, leaving a very flustered Meredith behind.


for the rest of the day all Meredith could think about was their moment in the scrub room and the feel of his lips on her neck. she was flustered, couldn't think straight and the people around her noticed.
"what's the with you today?" Amelia asked as they walked out of a patient's room on the paeds floor.
"nothing, just thinking about a couple of things I need to sort out." Meredith answered.
"well sort it out fast before Bailey notices." Amelia smiled then walked off the ward. Meredith was about to follow her when something, someone, caught her eye. she spotted Hayes walk into his office so she decided to follow him and talk.
"Dr Grey, what can I do for you?" he asked looking at her with a smile.
"if your going to kiss me at least kiss me on the lips." she huffed stepping more into the office.
"still thinking about me huh?" he smirked, "but I did say you'd have to ask me and you haven't." Hayes shrugged coming to stand in front of her. they stared into each others eyes for what felt like a lifetime. the tension building.
"I want you to kiss me." Meredith whispered breathlessly. Hayes got even closer and his eyes kept flicking between her eyes and lips and Meredith thought that this was it, they were finally going to kiss. when he looked into her eyes, he smirked and lowered his head again to kiss her neck.
"i'll think about it." he told her as he went and sat back at his desk. Meredith stared at him for a moment, huffed in annoyance then left.


Meredith sighed with relief when it came to the end of her shift. she could go home and eat, kiss her children goodnight and go to sleep herself all without thinking about Cormac Hayes and the flustered mess he left her in today. or that's what she hoped for. she was stood at the front desk, updating the last of her patient charts so she could finally go home.
"hey, you ready?" Amelia asked from beside her.
"just need to put these last couple of notes in... there, all done." Meredith gave the tablet to the nurse in front of her. as she was about to grab her bag she felt a and on her arm turn her and lips crash into hers. she froze for a second, ready to push whoever this was off of her when she recognised the familiar cologne that belonged to Cormac Hayes, and in that split second of recognition her instincts took over and she responded eagerly by pulling him closer and kissing back with as much passion as she was receiving. one of Meredith's hands held tightly onto Cormac's coat at his waist whilst the other wrapped around his neck and one of his hands was rapped securely around her waist whilst the cupped her cheek gently. this kiss stopped time for them, it made their surrounding environment disappear until it was just the two of them. this kiss was like a moment that was destined to happen between them and it was so much better than either of them imagined. they both pulled away at the same time, breathless, staring a each other. after a few breathes, Hayes smiled at her, placed a quick kiss on her lips, picked his bag up and began walking to the exit. just before he walked out he turned back to look at her and smiled.

"are you coming then, Grey?"

meredith being protective of hayes(part 2)

due to COVID a number of doctors have decided to retire from the hospital so there has been a big need for new doctors in all departments.  whilst most departments haven't been quite so lucky, Hayes has been able to find and hire a new paediatric doctor, Dr Maria Reynolds.

it was a Monday morning which meant the start of a new week and the first day for Dr Reynolds. Hayes had stayed the night at Meredith's house, the first time they had properly seen each other is 56 hours.

"good morning." a tired voice mumbled from behind him.

"morning, i made coffee." he greeted Meredith, pulling her into a hug.

"this is why i keep you around." she sighed happily leaning up to press a gentle kiss to his lips.

"oh is that right," he smirked, "so it's not because of that thing you liked me doing last night?" he raised his eyebrow, the smirk still on his face.

"okay, that too. why are you ready so early by the way?" Meredith asked, sipping her coffee.

"i'm meeting the new paeds doctor today, showing her round and introducing her the the rest of the staff." he explained, putting his coat on.

"ah, okay. we'll i'll be in in a couple of hours so i can stop by and meet her then hopefully convince you to get some lunch with me?" she asked, wrapping her arms around his waist.

"i'm sure that can be arranged." he skilled leaning down to kiss her, "Okay, i really have to go now. i'll see you later, baby." he kissed her again, grabbed his bag and left.

"and this is the NICU. we've just ordered 4 more baby workers to go into the new NICU expansion." Hayes explained he and Dr Reynolds entered the room.

"wow, this is amazing." Dr Reynolds told him.

"we do what we can." her replied. after a quick look around the NICU again, they left the go back to the main nurses desk to finish off her paperwork.

"i.. erm.. i hope you don't take this offensively but why did you choose paediatrics? it's not a very masculine job." Dr Reynolds asked as she began to sing her paperwork.

"excuse me?" Hayes asked, shocked.

"i mean, paeds isn't very masculine and personally i wouldn't want a man working on my child. you don't really look at a male doctor and think 'warm and caring' but you do when you look at a female doctor." she explained still looking down at her paperwork.

"who the hell do you think you are?" an angry voice asked from behind them. when they turned around they saw Meredith stood with her arms crossed and a very pissed off look on her face.

"i'm sorry, who are you?" Reynolds asked.

"Meredith Grey, chief of general and Hayes' girlfriend. i'll ask you again.. who the hell are you?"  Meredith answered/asked, going to stand next to Hayes.

"Dr Maria Reynolds, the new paeds attending." She introduced herself.

"okay Dr Reynolds, why gives you the right to be prejudicial to Dr Hayes? all because he's male? i could guarantee that the majority of the hospital staff if not all of the staff would choose Dr Hayes over any other doctor to test their children and grandchildren. he wouldn't be the chief if he wasn't the best." Meredith ranted, anger twisted into her words.

"i-i'm sorry Dr Hayes, it won't happen again." Dr Reynolds stuttered then ran off with her paperwork to finish it on her own.

"i can't believe that just happened." Hayes stated, still in disbelief.

"well she certainly won't be saying anything like that again." Meredith told him turning to face him, her anger dissipating.

"thank you, baby, for defending  me. i appreciate it." he smiled, pulling her into his arms.

"i could stand there and let her at all of them when she had no idea of how good you are." she told him, leaning up to kiss him gently.

"still thank you. i believe lunch was mentioned this morning and i don't know about you but i am starving." Hayes smiled down at her, stealing another kiss.

"lunch sounds good, let's go."

Meredith gets jealous

Meredith and Cormac have been dating for around 3 months, secretly. They both agreed to keep them a secret until they were 100% positive that what they had was serious. They still managed small, subtle moments at the hospital though. Whether that was lingering touches when passing case files, his hand resting on her thigh when they have department head meetings or having a cuddle on one of their couches in one of their offices when they share a drink at the end of a shift.

Meredith had just gotten out of a 4 hour surgery, the patient made it through with no complications and all she wanted was to see her boyfriend to have a celebratory coffee: this had become one of their post surgery rituals. As Meredith was about to leave the OR floor she heard the very familiar laugh of her boyfriend. When she turned around she saw Cormac smile and lightly laugh and she saw a hand on his arm, a hand that belonged to Dr Lucy Melvin, one of the general attending from Meredith’s intern year group. Meredith would never say she was a jealous person, she never was when she was with Derek and she wasn’t when she was with DeLuca but for some reason seeing Melvin’s hand on Cormac’s arm seemed to have her humming with jealousy. It’s not that she didn’t trust him because she did and she knows other women have noticed him, he is very handsome and kind and funny but he was hers just like she was his.

She wasn’t sure what came over her, there was no thought or deliberation, one minute she was stood at the OR floor entrance/exit doors and the next she’s holding onto the front of his scrub top and pulling him into a hard and passionate kiss. Cormac was still for a moment, shocked by the sudden action, but it only took his brain half a second to recognise whose lips were on his and when it did he was eager to respond. Every time they’ve kissed it’s like time stops and it’s just the two of them and this kiss was no different. The people and the noise drifted away and it was just them in that passionate moment.

“ Wow. That was wow.” Hayes mumbled when they pulled away, his hands gently gripping her hips.

“Yeah it was.” Meredith smiled at him but then her smile dropped and her eyes widened. Staying in Hayes’ arms she turned her head and saw all the doctors and nurses that were on the OR floor staring at her and Cormac and amongst those staring with Bailey, Richard and Dr Melvin. with a deep breath, Meredith turned unlocked Melvin in the eyes.

“As you can see, Dr Hayes is very much taken so I would suggest you find another doctor to flirt with.” Meredith said with a sweet smile. Will the nearest nod of her head, Dr Melvin scampered off of the OR floor.

“She was flirting with me?” Hayes asked, slightly confused.

“ God, sometimes you are oblivious.“ Meredith chuckled.

“Wait so you were jealous?” Hayes smirked.

“I was not.” Meredith scoffed.

“Yes you were. You saw her talking to me, got jealous and came over to kiss me.” He laughed gently.

“Okay, yes i did get jealous. I didn’t like the idea of her hitting on you especially doing it right in front of me.“ Meredith explained, fingering his scrub top.

“It’s not like she knew we were dating.” Cormac laughed, rubbing her sides.

“ well I’m pretty sure the whole hospital will know by the end of the day.“ She told him, nodding her head to the audience stay still hard. He lifted his head and took a quick scan of the people spectating and with a small nod to Bailey and Richard he grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the OR doors and lead her to his office where they could have a moment in private.

“It’s about time.” Bailey laughed as she watched them leave the floor.

“I’m happy something good like him in her life.” Richard told her.

“Lord knows she deserves it.” Bailey agreed and headed to the OR 3 scrub room.

Hayes being protective of Meredith(part 1) — if your a fan of DeLuca i apologise now because i wrote DeLuca being mean to Meredith

Cormac Hayes couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment Meredith Grey became of the most important people in his life but he wasn’t going to complain. he also discovered that he had become incredibly protective over her especially when someone is talking bad about her. it started as a normal, routine day until Hayes found Meredith crying in his office.

“hey, hey. what’s the matter? what’s happened?” Hayes asked worriedly, rushing over to her. she didn’t answer him, just meant forward and hugged him tightly. they were sat in the couch in his office for 20 minutes hugging and him placing small kisses on her head until she calmed down enough to tell him what had happened.

“me and DeLuca got a case this morning. a young girl was brought in with major internal bleeding because she has been part of a hit and run so we rushed her up to the OR. we tried so hard, i tried so hard to save her but there was too much bleeding and damage and we lost her. when we were coming out of the OR DeLuca grabbed my arm and pulled me into an empty OR and proceeded to yell at me saying it was my fault she had died and that if he has the lead he would have been able to save her.” she explained to him, more test falling asleep she relived it. when Meredith looked into his eyes she saw understanding and anger.

“i swear to God when i see him i’ll kill him,” he mumbled to himself then cupped her cheek, “listen to me, you are an amazing doctor and surgeon and if you couldn’t save her no one could’ve. it was not your fault, you hear me, so please don’t believe anything DeLuca said.” he told her sternly yet lovingly, silently praying she’ll believe him, and thankfully she gave him a small nod and a watery smile. “c’mon, let get changed and get some food, our shifts are over.” Hayes stood up and held his hand out for her to take, which she did. as they turned the corner to go to the attending lounge they came face to face with Andrew DeLuca.

“oh great.” DeLuca muttered, then noticed their joined hands, “so your sleeping with Hayes now?!” DeLica accused, anger forming on his face and in his tone of voice. seeing and hearing his anger, Cormac gently pushed Meredith behind him.

“you need to back off. that is no way to speak to your boss, have some respect.” Hayes’ anger from before came rushing back.

“that’s right Mer, get your boyfriend to fight your battles.” Andrew sneered at her. just as Hayes was about to raise his fist Richard came out of the attending a lounge after hearing the argument.

“hey! calm down! Deluca go before i take you to Bailey, this is unacceptable behaviour and if it does happen again we will be going to Bailey.” with that Andrew left without so much of a glance or an apology to any of them. with a nod to Meredith and Hayes, Richard left down the corridor.

“you didn’t have to do that you know.” Meredith said to Hayes quietly, looking down at her feet.

“hey,” he started, using his thumb and finger to tilt her head up to catch her eyes, “ i’m not gonna let anyone speak to you like that and i’m certainly not gonna let anyone get away with hurting you.” he told her, his voice full of care and sincerity. Meredith didn’t think a simple ‘thank you’ would suffice so instead she wrapped a hand around the back of his neck and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. “ i appreciate that and you more than you know.”

mornings together - merhayes

they had been together for 4 months when Meredith noticed how domestic they had become. it wasn’t much of a surprise considering they had spent everyday together since they became a couple. to some that might be overbearing, to others spending that much time with a partner would mean arguments but for Meredith and Hayes it brought comfort. they work easily and seamlessly together both at work and at home. they quickly got into a routine with their kids and Meredith was forever thankful that her kids loved Hayes, Liam and Austin just like Hayes was thankful his boys loved Meredith, Zola, Bailey and Ellis.

Meredith’s kids loved it when Hayes and his boys stayed at their house for the night which is what they did the night before and is why Meredith was stood in the kitchen making chocolate chip pancakes for 5 very hungry kids.

“good morning.” a thick irish accent mumbled from behind her which accompanied two sting arms wrapping around her waist.

“morning, there’s fresh coffee in the pot.” she turned and placed a delicate kiss on Cormac’s cheek.

“you’re too good to me.” he gave her a gentle squeeze and a kiss on the head and went to make a cup of coffee.

“kids! breakfast!” she shouted and then a small stampede of children came running into the kitchen. “okay, okay. sit down nicely and we’ll get your food.” Hayes spoke as he lifted Ellis onto a kitchen chair. the adults dished the food out and it was in that moment that the domesticity of their family got her. she looked up after giving Zola her plate and saw Hayes kneeling next to Ellis, cutting her pancakes into triangles which she likes, and that is when it hit her. with a smile she stood up and went to get her coffee.

“what’s the smile about?” Hayes wondered as he stole some of her coffee.

“i’m just thinking about how lucky i am having you in our lives.” she told him.

“i’m forever thankful for you for entering our lives too.” he smiled and kissed her lovingly.

cold. that’s the first thing that registered in Hayes’ sleep filled mind. patting his hand to find the blanket, he lifted his head in confusion when he couldn’t find them. it was only when he looked next to him did he understand and smile. meredith seemed to have cocooned herself in all of the blankets. cormac gently tugged at one of the blankets and frowned slightly when it didn’t budge so he tugged again with a little more force and the outcome of that was meredith wrapping the blankets around her more tightly.

“mer, meredith baby.” he loudly whispered, shaking her gently.

“mmm… what cor?” she asked, tiredly moaning.

“you’ve stolen the blankets and i’m cold.” he told her, gently tugging the blankets again.

“i’m cold too. get your own.” she moaned and turned to go back to sleep. he smiled slightly then shifted closer to her and wrapped his arms around her.

“what are you doing?” she asked.

“i’m cold, your warm. seen as you won’t let me have any blankets, i’ll use you instead.” he explained and kissed her neck. she chuckled lightly and turned in his arms, opening up the blankets to let him in.

“we can’t have you freezing to death can we.” meredith whispered.

“thank you baby.” he kissed her lips gently.

“shhh, sleep time.” she mumble, kissing him back. cormac tightened his arms around her and she tucked her head under his chin and they both drifted off into a warm sleep.

the sun woke him up the next morning, warming his body. with a tired groan Cormac open his eyes. looking down slightly he could see meredith was still tucked under his chin, arms and blankets wrapped around him. with a gentle smile he began placing kisses across her cheek and head.

“mmm… morning.” she said, sleepily.

“morning baby.” he replied kissing her lips when she tilted her head up.

“you still cold?” she asked.

“no, i’m all good now.” he smiled down at her.

“good, because i like having you around and if you froze it would really mess that up.” she told him, burying her head in the crook of his neck.

“i like having you around too, mer.” he replied back, kissing her forehead and hugging her tighter.

“we should probably get up soon, those hungry little tigers will be demanding breakfast soon.” cormac whispered in her ear.

“5 more minutes.” she mumbled, placing a kiss on his neck. those 5 minutes quickly turned into 20 and they were joined by 3 little bodies all cuddling together.

Cormac Hayes was tired. he was beyond tired to the point that his tired was tired. it had been 32 hours since he last saw his kids and it’s been 48 hours since he last saw his girlfriend, Meredith Grey. as much as he loved his job it was times like this, when the shifts became long and hard, he slightly hated them, especially when they took him away from his family.

he was on his final rounds of the shift, checking closely at the 3 month old baby girl that came in half way through his shift. this baby was the reason his 18 hour shift turned into a 32 hour one. the baby girl came in with difficulty breathing which then lead to its lungs shutting down which lead to surgery and therefore lead to the added hours on his shift. after thoroughly checking the baby’s sats, lung sounds and oxygen level and being 100% satisfied she as stable he dragged his tired body to the attendings lounge ready to get changed and head home to his family. what he didn’t expect when he walked into the lounge was to see his girlfriend sat on the couch reading through a patient file.

“hey, what’re you doing here?” he asked, exhaustion dripping in his speech.

“hey, bailey called and asked for a second opinion in a patient and it’s been 2 days since i’ve seen you so here i am.” she smiled up at him but the smile faded quickly when she saw how tired he was.

“how long has it been since you’ve slept?” she asked, worriedly.

“erm, 32 hours i think.” he answered, mid yawn and rubbing his eyes.

“cormac! your exhausted, why didn’t you have a nap in the on call room?” she asked, standing up to pull him down to sit in the couch.

“because a 3 month old baby came in with breathing difficulties which lead to more complications and she’s been touch and go so i’ve not had the chance.” he explained.

“here,” she patted her lap, “you need sleep and i’m not letting you drive home this tired so have a nap here with me.” she told him.

“Meredith it’s fine, i’m fine. plus don’t you have that consult with bailey?” he asked, not wanting to impose but silently wanting to just lay with her.

“it’s fine cormac, i’ll page her here and tell her or i’ll go find her later after you’ve rested. i’m not taking no for an answer.” she told him sternly but with a small smirk on her face.

“okay. you know your the best.” he smiled and leant over to give her a kiss then laid his head across her lap.

“just for you. i’ve missed you.” she told his softly, stroking his cheek.

“i’ve missed you too, baby.” he turned his face to kiss her palm.

“sleep cor.” she told him softly. he nodded his head and closed his eyes, sleep finding him easily with his girlfriend next to him, a content smile in his face.

“i love you.”

“what?” Cormac asked, the surprise evident in his voice .

“i love you. i’ve been meaning to say it for a while but the timing always seemed to be off.” Meredith explained, fingering the blanket she had in her lap, “it’s okay if you don’t feel it too but i just -“ she started to ramble but was cut off by Hayes’ lips pressing to hers.

“if you’d be quiet you’d know my response,” he smirked, “i love you too, Grey. i didn’t think i’d find anyone after Abigail and in all honesty i wasn’t looking to find anyone else but then you came into my life and turned my entire world upside down. you taught me how to love again and that it was okay to love again.” he told her with love in his eyes and voice.

“i’m so glad you feel the same way,” she chuckled, “because you’re it for me, Cormac. i want you and our kids for the rest of my life.” she whispered, stroking his cheek.

“i’m all in, baby. you, me and the kids.” he whispered back with a smile on his face.

“i love you, Meredith Grey.”

“i love you too, Cormac Hayes.”
