The girl in front of me had short locks of healthy, curly, deep, auburn hair that just reached her shoulders and a dimple when she smiled – which she sure as hell was doing seeing as Maria was holding up a photo of a precious black labrador and telling me all about how she had gotten him as a birthday gift. Even the popular kids paid attention to us when she pulled out the photo – and by us, I mean just Maria. She was the one with tales of a dog and a photograph to prove it. I only had dreams of such things.

I had been staring at the flickering light above my head when the door creaked open, revealing Maria.  “Lucinda! Lucinda! Lucy!” she called out to me, cheerfully drawing out the last letter the second time she said my name.

“Yes Maria?” I queried, snapping my attention to her.

“You will never guess what happened last night!” She exclaimed her eyes wide and filled with wonder – even more so than usual.

I put my book down on the desk to pay her more attention. “Then tell me, Maria.”

Ah so this is actually perfect! I wrote this little detail into chapter 9 if i recall correctly: Lucinda is a tad bit taller then Maria! Not by a lot just like and inch or two
