Queer Webcomic & Comic recommendations. 🏳️‍🌈

I’ve just finished a wonderful webcomic featuring many queer main characters and it prompt me to do a recommendations list. To share with you all some of the brilliant LGBTQIAP+ webcomics & graphic novels that I’ve read.

1) Rock & Riot by Chelsey Furedi.

Rock & Riot is about 3 groups of teenagers as they deal with rivalries, love & their sexual orientation set in the 1950’s.

It’s a webcomic completely free to read online at Tapas or here on tumblr.

It’s hands down one of the most diverse comics I’ve ever read. Multiple main characters are queer including: Connie who is a woc and also a lesbian, Carla who is plus size & bi or pan sexual, Roller who is a Transwomen & Ace who is non- binary. We also have 3 f/f romances, 2 m/m romances and one f/enby romance develop as the comic goes on.

It’s unbelievably cute and I adored it!!

2) Taproot by Kenzey Young.

Flower shop Au in comic form!

Cute ghost guy falls for his flower shop owning best friend.

It’s so freaking adorable!

One of the cutest m/m romances ever!

More Humorous than expected.

I loved it.

3) Princess Princess Ever After by Katie O’Neil.

Princess Princess Ever After is another webcomic available to read completely free online. If you type in the title the comic website will come up.

The cutest f/f romance.

The princess saves the princess.

Plus size main character.

Talks about gender issues and the roles of men and women.

Interrracial relationship.

Poc main character{ Amira is my favorite}

4) Fence by C.S Pacat & Johanna The Mad.

Let’s put it this way Fence is so good that I’m following the comic Issue by Issue and I NEVER do that. I normally just wait until the graphic novel is released.

Literally everyone is queer.

Sports comic that we all wanted!

Super diverse most of the main cast are POC.

Slow burn relationships to develop as the comic goes on.

I’m already shipping Seiji/Nicholas & Aiden/Harvard so bad!!

Waiting month by month will Kill you but the pain is worth it.

5) The Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen, Mike Norton & Jamie McKelvie.

The marvel movies are terrible when it comes to diversity but their comics do it right.

Gay MC.

M/M Romance.

Superpowers!

Bisexual MC.

One of my favorite marvel comics. Honestly this and Ms.Marvel are the only ones done the right way!

6) Kim Reaper: Grim Beginnings by Sarah Graley.

Won’t lie this ain’t my favorite graphic novel ever but it has great diversity and kickass female main characters so I don’t mind.

Also has a cute f/f romance between the two main characters.

Queer Grim Reaper! Something I didn’t even know I wanted.

7) Starfighter by Hamlet Machine.

Another webcomic completely free to read online. Just look up Starfighter and the comic website will appear.

WARNINGS: This comic is erotic and at times gruesome!

It’s completely adult content!!

Scfi.

M/M romance.

To be fair this isn’t the best webcomic I’ve ever read but it’s weirdly addictive.

8) Long Exposure By Kam “Mars” Heyward.

Webcomic is completely free to read on Tapas.

Follows the story of Jonas and Mitch the guy who’s only back in school from prison. Mitch use to bully Jonas when they were kids. They’re forced to work on an assignment together and stuff happens.

They get powers is so fun!

Honestly I didn’t expect to love this like I did.

Jonas is so precious.

Mitch is morally grey but also precious.

M/M Romance.

9) The Legend Of Korra: Turf Wars part 1.

Korrasami is queens so of course I’m going to recommend my favorite comic in this universe.

It’s so good.

So much Korra & Asami content. We’re blessed.

I recommend watching the Tv Show first because it’s amazing. Also while you’re at it watch Avatar: The Last Airbender before it. I promise you won’t regret it.

Everything leads up to this wonderful comic.!!

10) The Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson.

Once of the most diverse middle grade graphic novels I’ve ever read.!

Honestly there’s so much beautiful content in the series.

The cutest f/f romance{ Molly & Mal😍}

The best thing about these comics is the friendship between the girls. They all love each other so much and knowing this is out there for young girls unsure of themselves and will be able to bring them comfort makes my heart happy.

One of the girls has two dads.

Bonus: These are some I haven’t read but have heard great things about and want to really soon.

Heartstopper by Alice Oseman. Webcomic free online. Cute m/m romance between two high school boys who meet at a boarding school.

Goldie Vance by Hope Larson. Queer main character who is a WOC solves a mystery. She wants to become a detective. Has a crush on a cute girl during the graphic novel. That’s all I know but I need it!!

FINALLY owns up to his past behavior and acknowledges that he has hurt eric and doesn’t expect any reaction after it

yeets himself off to school bc that’s what u do when you’re in love right

ruins a school play just to ask u to hold his hand bc that’s all that matters in that moment right

finally realizes he wants to be good at something and actively makes decisions that will lead him to that

i just have to write it again.... he is the protector of dogs

the writers really knew what they were doing making him one of the most loved characters of the season so pls i hope his development continues for the better

ok but the only image isaac really has of otis is some random drunk boy who, in front of tons of people, stood up on a couch said horrible things about maeve. was deleting the voicemail a total cross of boundaries? absolutely! can I understand why he may have thought he was doing was the right thing? kind of. that doesn’t mean it’s justified or excusable, but it also doesn’t make him the worst person on the show.

Some things I loved about sex education s2:

FEMALE EMPOWERMENT

That they brought up how common sexual harassment/assault is and how it needs to be changed

Also how female victims can still be blamed by other women

Also how her being sexually assaulted affects her for such a long time even tho she tries to ignore it

Acknowledging asexuality and pansexuality?? Finally getting representation?? YES PLEASE??

Playing mystery of love by sufjan stevens, like they really know how to rope the gays in

WAY MORE THAN 2 LGBT CHARACTERS

When Rahim mentioned the fact that they need to teach more about pleasure, and especially non-heterosexual sex

Talking not just about sex but everything around it

The fact that someone has lesbian parents

The amount of unexpected friendships (ADAM AND ORLA)

The 80s music and clothing?? yes please

All the literal friendship goals (mainly maeve and amy)

The mentions of things like vaginismus, it's so important to know about shit like that tbh

I STAN MAEVE shes such a badass and I love her hair

Dealing with homophobia to cover up that they're actually gay, which is such a common issue

Characters discovering their sexuality

Amy is the most precious human being and if anyone disagrees I will fight you

Its fucking hilarious

Showing how theres different sides to every character

I dont like Adam but he likes frozen so I will make an exception

"what did i do wrong?" I could list like 10 things any other time but at that very moment all I could think of was "nothing"

Amazing things that happened in Sex Education Season 2

Adam Groff said the word bisexual. On screen. About himself. I was so worried they would ignore his attraction to girls and make him full on gay. But nope. Bisexual :)

It shows that LGBT+ people can be religious (Eric) or not religious (Rahim). And both sides are have their reasons and don't get into a huge fight about it, because they are listening to one another, and understanding!!!! So important

It shows interracial couples with two people of color

Ola came out as pansexual. And kissed Lily. And Lily's somewhat wlw? Maybe bi or pan, but could be lesbian. And they get together, being one of the only shows to fill my requirement that if it has a highly advertised mlm couple, it should have a wlw couple who are in similar standing character wise as the mlm couple

They finally show us why Jackson's mom pushes him so hard, but they make sure she knows that she shouldn't push him so hard, nor should she project her dreams onto him

And Jackson gets a much needed mental health storyline

Florence (side character) learned about asexuality from Jean

Maureen (Adam's mom) left Mr. Groff

Maeve has a little sister, and they're so adorable

Ruby got some character depth

Girls supporting girls. Women supporting women

It shows Aimee after sexual assault, and the other girls tell their own stories about sexual harassment/assault

Steve told Aimee that they never had to have sex again I'd she didn't want to and that he just missed talking to her

Just Steve in general. He comes off as a total himbo, but he's actually super smart and the best character in the show

Adam actually tries to get better. He still makes mistakes, but he's trying. No, he shouldn't be forgiven for everything he did, but he does deserve a chance to try and get better

Adam and Ola's friendship; Viv and Jackson's friendship

Horrible things that happened in Sex Education Season 2

The first, like, minute of the season

Unfortunately, Mr. Groff is still alive

Maeve's mom, Erin, relapsed. Or was never clean. Anyways, she lied to Maeve about it and has the audacity to tell Maeve that she'll never forgive her, but Maeve was just trying to make sure that Elsie wouldn't have a childhood like hers

Okay, so Olivia is Indian, and she's known as an untouchable??? What the fuck??? Please address this

Things I Really Don't How to Feel About:

Jean being pregnant???

Isaac's character??

The weirdness of Olivia being somewhere between 16-18 and Malek being 15? It's kind of uncomfortable, but on the other hand, it isn't legally statutory rape and it was completely consensual, so??? Idk

Things I Want in Season 3:

MORE OF FLORENCE! MORE OF FLORENCE!

I feel like we need to talk about Lily's potential hypersexuality??? I feel like there is such a stigma around hypersexuals and that Lily is the most likely candidate in the show to have it and it would be nice to have an episode about it. End the fucking stigma, please

A discussion about how Isaac deleting Otis's message is a manipulative technique used in emotionally abusive relationships, even if Isaac was "just making a poor choice"

My fav things about Sex Education season 2

-damn. Ouch.

- asexuality representation. bisexual representation. Thank you.

- Aimee’s story was S O important. It’s spreading much needed awareness about sexual assault, and how scary that experience is for anyone.

- I think Lily and Ola were very important. Lily really thought she was straight until Ola was introduced to her, and it showed her confusion. So many teenagers are confused about their sexuality that made them feel a little less alone.

- I big topic that was discussed was divorce. Divorce has become much more common, and no one really talks about it anymore. No matter what, divorce is hard on EVERYONE involved and we saw that through Otis and Adam’s yes.

- the soundtrack was brilliant, and when they play Mystery of Love I cried cuz duh

- i like how Ola and Maeve expressed their feelings to Otis. Otis was very much so an asshole in this season, so he deserved their hostility.

- Adam’s character development was monumental. He went from not wanting to be seen with Eric in public, to confessing his love to him ON A STAGE.

- this whole season was a big nod to the lack of sex education we receive in high schools today. Bruh I literally had to learn everything myself.

- feminism. feminism. feminism.

- the colors were different than last season. Last season was more pales, but the hues here were extravagant and neon and different lighting.

- Jackson and Vivi’s friendship! I like they didn’t make her have a crush on him or anything like that. Platonic love is so important.

- any representation of theatre kids I get, I take. So I was a happy theatre stan:)

- it’s such an awkward show. There were so many instances that I had to pause it and be prepared to cringe at what’s about to happen, but THAT’S HIGH SCHOOL.

- Maeve’s situation. Those were the only scenes I would cry. Because the writers managed to make you feel bad for her mom. Even after all the things she has done. But again, that’s life. Maeve felt bad and we felt bad. But I still think Maeve did the right thing.

- We saw a new side of Maeve. Taking care of her little sister, being on Quiz Heads, being very enthralled by a boy. She’s just as much of a badass, if not even more so than last season.
