Self Harm The Hidden Pandemic (Non Suicidal Self Injury - NSSI) from Andrew Lim Mao Tung on Vimeo.
Recent figures have demonstrated a worrying rise in self harm, particularly amongst young people in the US, UK and Australia. The impact the rise of self-harm on families is staggering.
In the US, 1 in 4 young women and 1 in 10 young men have deliberately harmed themselves at some point. In Australia 10% of 14-15 year olds report having self harmed in the year 2017 (15% of girls and 4% of boys). And in the UK, prevalence of self harm has nearly tripled over the past 10 years to 2019.
And that was before 2020.
While at this stage the data is still largely unavailable or inconclusive, anecdotally, calls to mental health support services have increased exponentially in first world countries during 2020, and it would be safe to assume that increases in anxiety and depression may also precipitate increases in rates of self-harming behaviors as well.
According to Lori Vann, NSSI authority and a US-based psychologist, people begin with less harmful methods of self-harm that, when left untreated, escalates over time into more serious and more dangerous types and degrees of self-harm.

Taking care of your mental health first makes you stronger. Many short guided meditations can be found online for free. Once you prioritize your time, if you need extensions ask for them.
In the prioritization matrix “importance” and “time” can be substituted for other considerations like “reward” and “risk.”
10 means very high importance Try not to rate items in the middle (as a 5) wherever possible. It makes it harder to prioritize items. 0 is not important at all
Physical health, mental health, and mindset are all important. Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. You cannot delegate schoolwork unless you are working in a group.
What do you NOT have access to right now? If you do not communicate with your teacher they will not know.
The flexibility of online learning means that some students in the best of times procrastinate until the last minute.
I have been getting up at 5 am for over a month now and it has really boosted my productivity.
Give yourself time limits in your calendar. Take breaks.
You are not alone.
