Hello everyone, I have been on an unscheduled, year long sabbatical following my work in the Kurdistan region. With that said, I am completely closing the door on the prospect of conflict photography, and most emotionally burdening (for me, as a witness) photojournalistic assignments permanently. I will gladly shoot light, happy, positive assignments, and can still craft a portrait. Editors, I would love to make portraits, images, visual stories for your publications. Creative directors, I would be honored to manufacture images that can better connect your services to those who may need them. Please do give me a shot, I will not let you down. In the past year, I've met my soul mate, settled down, and decided that preserving my own sanity and happiness is what must come first now. For the past six months, I have been making my permanent migration to Germany a full-fledged reality, and have had to part ways with so many books, cameras, clothes, and other possessions. Starting life anew. With a clear head, a focused and sharp mind, I am ready to pursue whatever may lay ahead of me in what I hope and presume will be many years of art and image making. Many thanks to all of you who have followed my work in the past few years. Back to work. Back to life. Cheers, Andrew Wade Nunn p.s. I'm also making really nice handmade notebooks of handmade paper, as opposed to making pictures at the moment. I'd be glad to make you one.

Before US astronaut Scott Kelly returned from his year-long mission aboard the International Space Station, he shared photos of his very last sunrise in space.
I think you need to see the full photos, in all their glory:

Don’t scroll past this. Kylie Armstrong was diagnosed with breast cancer and these small dimples were the only signs. She posted the image on Facebook so everyone knows that “that breast cancer is not always a detectable lump.” Here’s how Kylie is doing today.
(If you’re not sure how to do a self breast exam, instructions can be found at BreastCancer.org.)

The Republican senatorial committee deleted a Tweet in which they accused a double-amputee ex-soldier of “not standing up for veterans.”  And people wonder how this party came to beget Donald Trump.  (via)

Despite how far we’ve come in space exploration, one thing still holding us back from interstellar travel is our slow spacecraft. While we’re able to propel particles to close to the speed of light in the lab, we’re struggling to even accelerate spacecraft to beyond 3 percent of that. With our current technology, it’s estimated it’ll take humans around five months to reach Mars.
But NASA scientist Philip Lubin is working on a system where lasers propel spacecraft with giant sails to the Red Planet in as little as three days. Much like Bill Nye’s much-hyped solar sail, this ‘photonic propulsion’ system relies on the momentum of photons - particles of light - to move forward. But instead of photons from the Sun’s rays, Lubin’s design would be given a push by giant Earth-based lasers.
It sounds pretty far-fetched, but in a video for NASA 360, Lubin explains that the technology is very much readily available, and that the system could easily be scaled up.

What to do if you suddenly find yourself homeless
FOOD
Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food
grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread
different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.
some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit
SHELTER
Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment
sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it
Some churches offer short term residence
Find your nearest homeless shelter
Look for places that are open to the public
A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry
HYGIENE
A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.
Public libraries have bathrooms you can use
Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.
Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver
Local beaches, go for a quick swim
Some truck stops have showers you can pay for
Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet
Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket
OTHER
first aid kit
 sunscreen
a travel alarm clock or watch
 mylar emergency blanket
 a backpack is a must
downgrade your cellphone to a pay as you go with top-up cards
 sleeping bag
travel kit of toothbrush, hair brush/comb, mirror
 swiss army knife
 can opener
