I don’t think the parents in Dear Evan Hansen get enough praise on how realistic they are portrayed.

We may or may not disagree with their parenting ethics and think they are the worst parents ever.

BUT

It’s making people especially parents realize or accept how hard it is to parent a child with depression or anxiety. It makes us aware that there are parents like the parents in Dear Evan Hansen in real life. This isn’t just made up.

They might be your least favorite character. You might hate them for what they did. But we must praise the realism of the portrayal because there are kids out there who struggle with being open with their parents and the parents understanding what’s going on.

The barrier between the child and the parents is SO important to discuss. Dear Evan Hansen is helping open the communication barrier between the parents and children.
