Anyway i think it's so beautiful that Mort and Clover are-even if by accident-thematic parallels/foils. Clover is a hardened raised warrior who treats rules with deference, who only swayed from them when she believed it was necessary and gradually learned to let go and make connections with both her internal life and the people around her. Mort, then, is a warrior who forgot that he could fight. An immortal stripped of his power and memory but given a second chance to live a peaceful life before it too, was bereft from him as he was forced to reconcile with a past so disconnected from his personhood it felt unreal. They both view Julien as their metaphorical symbol and path towards a future they deserve, their freedom to a better life, but share a devotion to knighthood in their own weird ways. In a sense, they both let go of their preconceived notions of who they Were to connect with their past and their future, and either put down their spear or learn to raise it back up.
