yeah like as underexplored as andy and quynh’s reunion and dynamic was, there are good bones to work with. and them being immortal and having this huge devastating rift between them but also all this history and love makes it easier to digest than say two mortals who are experiencing something painful but mundane. like i would very much like to see quynh rage and andy grovel but im also team they figure it out because quynh is free and they’re together so how can they not try? idk maybe im too optimistic lol

hello! i agree with you on the appeal of seeing them figure it out especially if they had time on their side tho personally i’m more on the angstier (and, okay, bleaker) end of the headcanon spectrum :P 

some rather disorganised thoughts under the cut:

i think of andy and quynh’s relationship and conflict as ultimately a magnified version of any mortals’ tbh—it’s the sheer scale of time and its effects on both of them that gives it sauce, at least to me.

they were both alone for a very long time before they found another one like them: very lesbian and gay women of them. but how fucked up were they when they found each other? how similar and how different were they?

the iron maiden: it brings to mind forced separation of families during times of war or conflict. both of their positions ring familiar to me: andy’s guilt and helplessness at the inability to reach quynh, and quynh’s traumatic isolation and captivity. them being immortals and the magnified scale of time makes it interesting cuz how did this affect their psyche? especially quynh’s? the movie pays lip service to the “they don’t recognise each other now” but it’s all so weightless because we don’t glean anything meaningful about either of them before and after the separation yk?

the bones are good if one was operating with fandom goggles. i don’t expect much from the 3rd installment (if ever a 3rd movie happens) but as someone playing in fandom, i think there’s so many directions to take and much room to explore with this ship. if there’s a good takeaway from the sequel it’s this.

Way back, it was her and Andy. Before me and Nicky, it was just the two of them.

i guess my thoughts on the booker exile thing is, were they morally in the right to do that to him? yes absolutely. he made his choices and caused the situation and they have every reason to not trust him or want to spent time with him and even punish him. is it going to help him at all? probably not. his problems are alcoholism and clinical depression. both make you a selfish asshole for reasons that are not entirely in your control. being exiled is in fact it is going to materially be pretty devastating to him, and most likely make those things worse (which we see in the second movie, as he is arguably in an even worse state and outside of few moments of clarity, seems to not have learned anything from his alone time)

so what is the right thing to do? fucked if i know! do they want to essentially heal and need him not to be there for that? do they never want to be his family again? again, i can completely see why. if they do want to be his family still though, and want to keep him in their lives, and want him to heal, is this the best thing to do? this is why i liked the joe/nicky conflict in the second movie. joe's worry over someone he loves despite the fact that he has hurt him felt very relatable to me, a person who has had a lot of suicidal and depressed friends who have at one point or another treated me like shit. nicky's anger at joe going behind his back and at booker for making those choices that hurt all of them, also completely understandable. it is a good conflict because it is messy in realistic ways. so often there are no easy moral answers to anything

i know ppl want a crusades flashback but i do NOT because a) i don't trust them to do it well b) i love reading 3847865 interpretations of how it happened and also how they got together. i never want there to be a canon version bc i love them all. i have written like at least three different versions c) they're not the main characters and i do not see what the narrative function would be d) i repeat, i do NOT trust them to do it well
