Ryan Heshka's AMAZING BATMAN Prints and 'Zine!

Ryan Heshka is hands down one of my favorite artists— he’s listed over there in dem dare links— you should click on it (after you finish reading my raving remarks).

I was a fan BEFORE he did versions of the 1939 Original Bob Kane (sorta) and Bill Finger (mostly) Bat Man character and then he did some limited edition PRINTS and all I can say is WHAAAAAAAA?? Why didn’t I buy more sets?!

He also did a little ‘zine which features more of his great Bat Man work (please note casual reader that the original Batman is called “The Bat Man”).

If DC COMICS actually cared about ART, like it did when my friend Mark Chiarello was the art director, or even back when Jeanette Kahn had the foresight to give Frank Miller a graphic novel platform worthy of the great European Comics companies who at the time were publishing works by actual artists like Moebius, then Heshka would be the main Batman artist and I’d be buying sixty copies of the book every month. Instead they continue to publish the same pablum garbage like that example I showed you a couple of weeks ago where an overly muscled Batman manages to dispatch a shark attack by firing one of the ears of his cowl into the shark’s eye, managing to make the idea of Batman carrying Shark Repellent suddenly the most sensible thing in the world.

I first encountered Ryan’s work with MEAN GIRLS CLUB— a striking graphic novel which has since become one of my favorites although truth be told I’ve never read the whole story because I get lost in the art brilliantly handled with shades of only pink.

I’m not kidding about MEAN GIRLS, I actually own six copies because I constantly loan He’s done other works too including WELCOME TO ROBOT TOWN and WELCOME TO MONSTER TOWN among several others. His work is absolutely brilliant.

MONSTER TOWN in particular is noteworthy because I can only imagine the generation it’s inspiring, today’s five year old lost in the pages of this wonderful dream land is tomorrow’s Tim Burton. And as Will Eisner said to me many times over “Teaching (or inspiring) the Next Generation is Our Only Obligation as Artists.” — I’m completely with ya Will.

MONSTER TOWN is the kind of book I would have read until the covers fell off and my dotting momma would have bought me another copy to shut me up.

Check out Ryan’s work, buy some stuff from him, just send him money for making the world a better place. You won’t be sorry.

October is my favorite month... A Look Back and a Look Forward/Fright-Fall #1 SKULLS

Here’s the first piece for Fright Fall;

No Guarantee I’ll be posting all of these on dis here Blog, but they will be posted in my Instagram account which is @AndyTFish - and an important thing to note is PLEASE don’t contact me through Instagram, I don’t check it. I don’t log on. Like Facebook I think IG is incredibly stupid and a waste of time, if you like it more the better for you, don’t hate on me because I have better things to do with my time.

I can’t believe it’s already October— despite being my favorite month of the year it’s still hard to let this Summer go— it was truly a great one. Very few very hot and humid days, and a lot of great memories.

We traveled quite a bit— Veronica’s sister got married in North Carolina and we drove down, stopping halfway to stay with her amazing Aunt and Uncle at their beautiful home in Maryland. Because of commitments we drove back straight the morning after the wedding in one day making a sixteen hour one way commute. We had #1 son’s wedding which was only about 20 miles away which seemed like a drop in the bucket comparatively and Veronica’s other sister gets married at the end of this month.

For My Favorite Month I’m going to try and incorporate the #Inktober challenge with Retro Supply’s FRIGHT-FALL Challenge as detailed in yesterday’s post.

We ventured out Monday night for a convertible ride with the intention of getting some errands done and stopping at a great Middle Eastern Restaurant we’ve just discovered. I love Middle Eastern food above all other food and that includes authentic deli. Unfortunately we didn’t know they weren’t open on Mondays. I called nearby Paradise Biryani in Westborough because I knew they were only doing take out for a while and sure nuff, they still are. My aversion to take out needs not be explained here.

So we shot down to Bollywood Grill in Shrewsbury for their amazing Pistachio Chicken Korma and some appetizers that were literally out of this world. I love Indian Food too and for some reason it seems even more appealing in Fall.
