The thing about those posts I’ve seen about Tumblr users having an odd habit of using other people’s posts criticizing a(n applicable) bigoted behavior as a confessional to try and cleanse them of their sins is like. They’re all missing the part that they objectively should be embarrassed about the behavior in the first place.

why have us queer people as a community normalized terms like "boygirl" or "girlboy" or other things like that but not like. the actual experience of being multigender. i swear some people will be like "ahaha its so cool and swag to be a #girlboy #boygirl" then turn around and be like "MEN DNI THIS POST IS ABOUT WOMEN" "MEN CANT BE LESBIANS (because no man is ever a woman too)" etc etc like come on guys

Hi! I‘m going to take care of the cats of a relative in a few weeks and since you are a cat expert, I wanted to ask if you have a few useful hints and tricks for me to make it less stressful for the cats and to earn their trust^^

I will be staying at my relative‘s flat so the cats can stay in their usual environment. My relative has 3 cats and they are a bit shy.

Oh! Okay! Here's my tips, in no particular order because they're all important:

Stick to their routine. Ask what times they eat, play, medications etc. Stick to this. Cats are creatures of habit and even if they're hiding when you put their food out, they'll hear it.

Take your shoes off in the house. You're a big unknown and their usual people are missing. Stomping around is terrifying.

Walk carefully when they're in the room. All 3 of my cats sit down and aren't fussed as we walk around because we've proven repeatedly that we walk around them. But this is a built trust. It takes time. Let them see you and make it obvious where you're going, what you're doing etc. If they run, don't change what you're doing. They'll look back and see that you're doing something that isn't a harm to them and slowly figure it out.

Do not try to touch them from behind and do not reach down from standing. Again, you're a big giant thing.

Sit on the floor (if you can) if you want them to approach you. Having their favourite treats to say hello with is great. Let them approach, don't move quickly, let them sniff you etc. Don't make any move to pet them until they show a sign of comfort (sitting down beside you, head bunting etc).

Do not force petting. Each time, introduce yourself (put your hand out, palm down, fingers relaxed, and let them sniff. This mimics a cat greeting). If they lean in, pet with one finger to see if they're happy on the top of the head. If they lean away, stop immediately. This builds trust.

To avoid annoyance, pet head down to their shoulders only. Lower than this can cause overstimulation and that's when they swipe to tell you to back off.

Let them hide. Even if you put their food out, just leave them be. They'll come out when ready.

Ask what toys they like. Play time is another bonding experience. Even if you sit on the sofa and they just watch you wave a feather around at first, you're showing playtime solidarity and activating the hunter part of their brains.

Know the vet, emergency vet clinic and basic cat CPR.

That's all I can think of on the top of my head. I'll add more or followers can, too!!
