he found both a condom and lube in there which saved another attempt at communication , and josh promptly applied both before slowly easing himself into kieran . he hissed with every inch , biting his lower lip and stifling a growl , choosing to ignore the havoc wreaking outside in the hallway because all that mattered to him right now was the other . he opted for catching their lower lip now , hands planting either side of their head as he drilled , waiting for the go ahead .

their nails seemed to bite into josh’s skin , back arching slightly from the bed before relaxing again . whatever what may have been going on beyond kieran’s apartment was far from their mind . the only thing that they could focus on was josh . they seemed to relax after a moment , offering a nod of their head for josh to keep going .

he didn’t need to be told twice , his head lifted and a smile instantly spread across his features . josh climbed up their frame and hovered over them once again , he paused and glanced about the room , “ condom ? ” josh questioned , stroking kieran still as he repositioned himself between their legs .

josh seemed to waste no time and kieran found themselves running their finger tips down josh’s back . they swallowed another moan to answer josh’s question , tilting their head before motioning towards the dresser next to the bed . ‘  top  drawer . ‘

he began to bob his head back and forth , his hand stroking what he wasn’t able to take right away , though josh put in every effort to do so . he slipped a hand between their legs , stroking a finger over their entrance , pausing as he pulled back to take a break and pushing the digit between his lips , returning it to their hole and once again teasing them briefly before urging the finger inside of them . he returned his mouth to their member , cheeks following as he focused entirely on forcing more of those moans from their lips .

kieran’s free hand curled into the sheets beneath them , their eyes eventually slipping shut as they tilted their head back . a few curses escaped kieran’s lips , fingers tugging on josh’s hair before they finally forced their eyes open , tilting their head again so they could watch the other . ‘  i  want  you , ‘ they breathed , ‘ now . ‘

he grinned , their frames moulding together all too easily as josh lead them back onto the bed . he urged them down and climbed on top of them , kissing down kieran’s body , sweeping his tongue every so often and taking off their pants slowly , tossing them aside . he wrapped his fingers around their member , glancing up at them through his lashes and grinning before pushing kieran between his lips .

kieran moved back towards the bed , laying down on top of it . they pushed their fingers through josh’s hair as he moved down their body , lips pressed together although they had no real plans to keep themselves quiet tonight . kieran hummed when josh’s touched them , tilting their head to watch his movements but his next gesture got a moan out of kieran , fingers tightening their hold in josh’s hair .

he chased their lips as they pulled away , his teeth finding his own lower lip , as they spoke , a suggestion he’d always wanted from kieran and he wasn’t about to turn it down now . josh nodded his head , grinning and taking their hand , heading into the bedroom and coaxing them back in . he lifted their shirt over their head and tossing it aside , looking over their body and licking his lower lip , realising any compliment may have been unheard , his hands cupping their jaw to coax their gaze to his lips , “ you’re beautiful . ”

a grin touched kieran’s lips as they followed josh into the bedroom and the other seemed to waist no time in at least removing their shirt . kieran tugged lightly at josh’s own shirt before their gaze was diverted and kieran smiled . ‘  shut  up , ‘ they breathed , the smile still on their lips as they brought josh in for another kiss , pulling back only to remove josh’s own shirt .

     josh slipped his hands up their back , brushing over their bare skin , humming quietly against their mouth , this didn’t have to be anything more than it already was but it was , kind of , the perfect distraction for right now . the banging continued , as did the sound of feet running up and down the hallway , some hysterical laughter , what mattered was that kieran couldn’t hear the vast majority . he lifted a hand as the other deepened their kiss , his fingers threading through their hair .

kieran couldn’t deny that they had thought about this on more than one occasion but nothing came close to the real thing . a hand raised , cupping josh’s jaw . they knew it didn’t have to go anywhere other than this but that wasn’t to say that kieran didn’t want things to go further . ‘ bedroom ? ‘ kieran asked when they pulled back .

     perhaps he shouldn’t have been using this as a distraction , he didn’t intend for that to be the reason this happened , and yet , here they were – and kieran certainly didn’t seem to mind . he melted into their kiss , trying not to flinch when knocks rattled the door once again . he dropped his hands to kieran’s sides and pulled them a little closer , his hand splaying in the small of their back as he deepened their kiss .

kieran didn’t mind if this was a distraction . the reason , in the moment , didn’t seem to bother kieran and it didn’t seem to bother josh so they weren’t about to pull away to mull over the reasons . they didn’t seem to notice the rattling of the door and if they did , they weren’t making it known . kieran deepened the kiss . fingers dipping beneath the fabric of josh’s shirt .

     he stared at the door , standing up swiftly , he didn’t know how he was going to intervene , what he imagined was causing the banging against the door was usually gone by the time any of them reached it , or rather , it was unseen . josh rubbed the back of his neck , frowning as kieran moved towards the door , opening it up and then closing it . he stared at them , offering up his hand for them to take and pulling them closer , nodding his head slowly , josh didn’t see much point in trying to communicate but instead brought both his hands to cup their jaw , pausing as if to wait for permission and leaning in to press a kiss to their lips .

kieran looked back at josh as they turned away from the door , glancing down at his hand before taking it . they almost wanted to smile at the way josh seemed to pause before pressing a kiss to their lips , hands raising to rest along josh’s waist . this had definitely been a long time coming and maybe kieran didn’t imagine this happening under these circumstances but it was as good of time as any .

he grinned back at them , licking his lower lip , perhaps not entirely surprised that they had chosen to bring it up . josh rolled back his shoulders , watching the tv for a while , considering whether now would be a good time to kiss them again . he hadn’t agreed to come stay with them tonight for that reason , and he didn’t want to give them that impression either but josh couldn’t quite seem to help himself . he turned , full intention to kiss them regardless when a loud rattle at the door , something like someone trying to get inside , vibrated throughout the apartment . josh jumped , glancing towards the door , wondering if kieran caught on to the racket .

kieran looked up when josh turned but it seemed as if whatever move josh was going to make was interrupted and even kieran couldn’t ignore that . the sound was enough to shake the apartment and kieran couldn’t try to be naive to it even if they wanted to . ‘  fuck  me , ‘ kieran breathed out before moving to get up to approach the door , first looking through the peephole before opening the door altogether , only to find no one on the other side . kieran took in a breath before shutting it , opting to lock the door even if they knew that wouldn’t do much to help .

    “  something  like  that ,  ” josh grinned in return , lips curving into a smile as kieran complimented him , he wasn’t about to argue with it , though he was sure nobody had ever called him sweet in his life , then again , he wasn’t always sweet – he just liked them . he nodded his head as they moved , taking out their hearing aids and immediately getting comfortable on the sofa . he looked down at their legs , smirked and rested his hand on top of them , glancing up at the tv , already aware of the racket from upstairs but not wanting to stress kieran out any by letting them know . 

a smile tugged at kieran’s lips , ‘  and  you  can  kiss  me  any  time . ‘ they said nothing else about it as they looked back towards the television , subtitles on for kieran to follow along . despite how things typically were between the two of them with simple conversation and some flirting back and forth , this , having josh here with them , felt oddly comfortable and they couldn’t deny having someone in their apartment with them in the moment made them feel a little less tense than what they usually would be feeling .

      he nodded his head , taking a sip of his beer , and shrugging a shoulder ,  “  you  don’t  have  to  hear  me ,  ” he didn’t want to disturb their nightly routine , and they both knew that they were together tonight because they wanted the comfort of having someone else there to deal with the night . josh’s gaze drifted towards the door , then back to kieran ,  “  you  can  take  them  out  if  you  want  to ,  I’m  sure  we  can  find  another  way  to  communicate  if  we  need  to .  ”

'  a  lot  of  pointing  and  gesturing ? ‘ kieran taunted , mild amusement on their features as they looked back at josh . ‘  you’re  kinda  sweet  you  know  that ? ‘ and kieran wasn’t just talking about now but also back at the elevator too . kieran shifted , pulling out their hearing aids and opting to put them on the table next to the couch before they moved again , leaning up against the arm of it , resting their legs across josh’s lap .

     he looked up when they came back in , smiling when they offered up a beer  ,  “  thanks ,  ” josh murmured , apparently neither of them were up to talking about the kiss that just happened , though it wasn’t exactly the right way to avoid why the other had kissed the other in the first place . he itched his jaw line and glanced up at the tv , shrugging his shoulders ,  “  uh ,  big  bang ,  I  think …  ” josh paused , looking back at them and tilting his head to the side ,  “  is  it  gonna  annoy  you  to  have  them  in ?  ” he gestured to his ears , and then kieran’s own . 

'  no problem . ‘ kieran offered a smile before getting comfortable . it didn’t seem as if either of them were going to bring up the kiss and maybe they didn’t have to . they glanced back at josh when he spoke again before shrugging , ‘  uh ,  probably .  at  some  point .  but  the  other  option  is  that  i  end  up  ignoring  because  i  won’t  hear  you . ‘

the doors sprung open and that and josh didn’t need any more reason to take his exit . his own place was on this floor but he wasn’t in any rush to head to his end of the corridor , the light in which flickered incessantly , as it always did , leaving the area around his door mostly dark . he was glad he agreed to stay with kieran that night , more glad that they’d offered , perhaps he would’ve done the same if they hadn’t , but he couldn’t be sure .

josh didn’t part from kieran till they made their way into their apartment , instantly shrugging out of his jacket and kicking off his shoes . they both seemed to be on edge , though neither voiced it for the time being , but rather went about as if nothing had happened . josh wanted to brush it off , but it shook him , only from experience , there was no way that elevator simply malfunctioned . he bit his lower lip , looking around their apartment , moving further in to turn on the tv and settle down on the sofa , it was simply for background noise , he didn’t look up until kieran joined him .

kieran disappeared for a moment into the kitchen , grabbing the both of them a beer before heading back out . they handed one off to josh before moving to sit down . they couldn’t remember the last time they walked into their apartment without immediately pulling their hearing aids out but it wasn’t as if they wanted to ignore josh the entire time that they were here . ‘  what  are  we  watching ? ‘ kieran asked , before taking a sip of their beer and glancing back over towards josh .

he looked back at them and frowned , “ we should’ve took the stairs , ” he knew that didn’t help them now . he could sense himself freaking out too , palms sweating slightly so josh did the only thing he could think of doing , he pulled kieran in and crushed their mouths together . he didn’t know why he did it , josh knew now wasn’t the right time but maybe it was . sure , they’d probably get out of this , but if it kept them both from freaking out for a little while longer , that couldn’t hurt .

the elevator dinged again and josh’s head snapped around , swallowing loudly when a few of the floors lit up . “ maybe it lagged ? ” josh glanced at the time in his phone and frowned , it didn’t seem likely that a bunch of other people from different floors hit the call button at the same time , but he wasn’t all that sure he wanted to consider the alternative .

kieran was sure the look on their face said it all to josh’s response . what they should’ve done didn’t exactly help them now but kieran didn’t have a chance to say anything as josh pulled them closer . they were surprised by the gesture at first before almost melting into josh but it was the ding of the elevator that forced kieran to pull back . ‘  yeah , ‘ kieran breathed , ‘ maybe . ‘ they looked back at josh before reaching for his hand again as they stepped out of he elevator and moved down the hall before reaching kieran’s door .

they unlocked the door and pushed it open before stepping inside . ‘  make  yourself  at  home . ‘ they motioned around before shifting to get out of their jacket , hanging it up by the door . ‘  drinks  and  food  in  the  fridge  if  you’re  hungry  or  anything . ‘ kieran was trying their best to forget about what happened with the elevator . maybe it really did lag but now they felt tense and couldn’t really shake it .

he made a mental note to do exactly that , but simply grinned in response to kieran’s taunt , the two of them seemingly desperate to cling to the playful nature of their conversation , but maybe they both knew that it would soon slip away . they stepped into the elevator and josh sighed softly at kierans words , reaching out and taking hold of their hand , gaze latched ahead of him now , his jaw clenched too tight to offer a response right away , though he did eventually do so , “ me too . ”

josh liked to think he’d been here long enough to be used to it , and in some senses he was , but he’d taken the stairs more times than he could count out of fear that he wouldn’t reach his floor , or worse , he would — and then some . he squeezed their hand gently as the elevator came to a stop , their floor illuminated above their head , a ding to signal their arrival , but the doors didn’t open . josh looked around them and bit his lower lip , trying not to freak out so soon . he reached out , pressing the button again , the button lit up , but dimmed as soon as he removed his finger — they were already at the floor . he pushed the open door button , no response , “ fucks sake . ”

kieran looked back at josh when he took their hand but they said nothing . it was simple but it seemed to give them some relief and neither of them seemed to make the move to let go even as the elevator began to move . they glanced up at the number , the light still illuminated and yet , the doors didn’t open . kieran took in a deep breath , attempting not to freak out . maybe the elevator was just being slow and the doors would open but as josh pressed the button nothing happened . 

‘ is  now  a  bad  time  to  mention  i  don’t  like  tight  spaces ? ‘ kieran practically mumbled . the elevator rides have never exactly been bad and kieran had never gotten stuck in one until now . kieran reached out , pushing the button that should have alerted someone downstairs but all that came back was static . ‘  fuck . ‘

“ because you are , ” josh responded , smiling as they got up to move away , collecting his things to do the same . they hadn’t really ever crossed the boundary between friendship and more , despite joshua’s flirting , and maybe some of kieran’s own , but truth be told , he wasn’t entirely sure either of them had ever been that serious , there was so much going on that , that never felt like it should take priority . he didn’t expect kieran’s question to come , his brows lifting , before he offered a nod of his head , “ sure , ” it didn’t exactly seem like a bad idea and it wasn’t as if josh hated the idea of spending more time with kieran — plus the comfort of having someone else around when everything kicked off was always a plus .

'  then  do  something  about  it , ‘ kieran taunted , a playful smile on their lips as they stepped back towards the elevator . josh didn’t seem to question kieran’s offer and they were thankful for it . then again , they both knew that this place wasn’t exactly normal and maybe neither of them wanted exactly to sleep alone tonight . maybe things could be calmer if there were two of them rather than one . kieran waited for josh before stepping into the elevator pressing the button to their floor . despite how upgraded everything seemed , the elevator appeared to be old and made odd sounds o matter whether it was going up or going down . ‘  i  hate  this  place . ‘

time passed much quicker than josh cared to notice , he wasn’t sure at what point he’d dozed in and out of consciousness but eventually he sat , staring blankly into the flames that still licked up the sides of the chimney . it was pleasant down here , and save for a few flickering lights and the occasional ding of an elevator that never arrived , not much happened , it was a breath of fresh air . at some point kieran woke , and josh glanced over at them with a lazy sort of smile , “ enjoying the peace and quiet , and you’re cute when you’re asleep … ”

a grin managed to touch kieran’s lips as they moved to stand , stretching again before looking back at josh . ‘  you  always  think  i’m  cute  and  i’d  love  to  stay  but  i’m  not  looking  to  have  back  pain  in  the  morning  from  sleeping  in  that  chair . ‘ despite their words , they didn’t exactly want to go back upstairs but knew they’d have to go up there eventually . kieran glanced in the direction of the elevator , chewing on their bottom lip before looking back at josh . ‘  want  to  stay  over ? ‘
