ALNST Watch/Read Order

Here I've tried to compile an order to consume ALNST by listing all the main pieces of content in order by release (not the BTS tho) to understand the story better and in hope that you'll enjoy this experience with context that you wouldn't get with the MVs alone (ofc I won't list everything that could provide lore, but if you're also interested in looking through all the other material, I made another post with all the links) (also if you think I forgot something pls I invite you to point it out so that I can add it)

ok, due to the Bonten Arc being closed to be animated, i have to speak my truth about a pair that has been roamimg in my head for a while now

Hakkai and Rindou Haitani

PLEASE JUST BEAR WITH ME, you have to see the vision

Bonten Timeline

Hakkai is a rising model

He has kinda given up in Mintsuya bc hes way to invested in his carreer as a designer or hes simply not interested in Hakkai in the same way, the point is, Mitsuya is emotionally unavailable

Rin, as we know, part of Bonten, living his luxurious life as a criminal

The only real interaction they had were the glimpses in the fights during toman teen years, but they´re aware of each others existance

There´s a one way hate relationship bc Hakkai knows that Mitsuya used to admire the Haitani brothers, so he kinda did reaserch about them to try to see the hype

And Rin knows about Hakkai bc of the Black Dragon conflict, and him being part of Toman instead of his brothers gang

They are both the younger sibling, so they are annoying as fuck bc they´re used to getting their way

Now just imagine the possibilities

Hakkai being aware of the Bonten status bc of Mickey

Hes a model, so he has to have some kind of exposure and going to parties with other people of the industry (expensive places)

Hakkai ends up in a bar with some of his collegues and sees someone being approach by Rin, and Hakkai knowing who he is and what hes up to tries to get his collegue out of Rins way.

At first Rin doesnt recognizes him, but when he does he just starts laughing, bc what are the odds?

After that he tries to talk to him and hakkai just ignores him and leaves to reunite with his collegues, which ends up being worse bc Rin´s a little shit so he just starts to annoy him all night, buying him drinks and stuff like that, and Hakkais collegues are like "do you know him??" and he says no, and nothing more

Bc even if Hakkai is in the industry i dont think hes the chatty type so, him being approach by a Rin out of nowhere, everyone is curious but theyre not reallly that close to ask Hakkai about it

And so it starts, now Rin is aware of Hakkai existance in the modeling industry

Hakkai hasnt brought up that he met a Haitani, bc its not that big of a deal

While Rin only told Ran and Sanzu that he found a new toy, but didnt say who it was

For a while they met a few times by chance (bc acording to Rin he isnt following hakkai) and Hakkai starts to engage in the conversations because "if he talks Rin will get bored eventually and leave him alone"

And Rin starts to see Hakkai everywhere because he became a really famous model, and to "annoy him" starts to send hakkai things like he was a big fan

And when they talk Rin tries to see Hakkais reaction when he talks about bonten or the his job (withoud to much info, bc he is an executive) but only to see if he thinks hes a mosnter or whatever, and Hakkai truly doesnt care, and that peeks Rin interest

I think hakkai cares more about people that what they´ve done

So the only thing that does get a reaction out of him is when Mickey is mentioned

So yeah, ive been thinking way to much about them, LIKE WHAT IF MISTUYA FINDS OUT HES TALKING WITH A HAITANI? WHAT IF RAN FINDS OUT RINS BEEN TALKING TO A EX-TOMAN?, the trope of Rin getting to Hakkais apartment covered in blood? the how they exchange numbers for the first time when hakkai has a job out of the city, how Hakkais collegues get used to see him talking with Rin at bars

the fact that kevin and jean have so much riding on this interview & it’s so high-stress yet they’re both like “and in equally distressing news, Jeremy is applying to law school” is so funny

andrew saw jean throwing bryson to a car and almost breaking his neck for jeremy and said yeah that kid wants to kiss captain sunshine so bad. breaking someone’s neck for the boy you want is like the most romantic thing for him

I just read M O T H by streetcat and need to yap about it

I needed a Kokonui fic, and streetcat delivered, the whole narrative just felt like accurate poetry to the escenary of the plot. (maybe another time i would actually write about the way the writing makes you feel the atmosphere)

it is placed in the bonten timeline, so you know its gonna have angst, but what i really liked was the different interactions Koko and Inupi had with Mikey, Sanzu and Draken.

i've been thinking about the ending a lot (i adored it, dont get me wrong), but mainly about the posibilities it had of the relationships that were built over the plot.

Case 1: Sanzu and Mikey

i think that to fully dive into their relationship we have to consider the manga, we know that part of the loyalty that Sanzu has for Mikey is because he knows about the first timeline, he knows about what shinichiro did and the consequences it had. Sanzu is loyal bc hes Mikeys childhoold friend, and knows the impact of everything Mikey has lost. His loyalty is a double edged sword; Sanzu cannot defy his king, he cannot stop him from selfdestructing, but if a better path is open, he will sugest it and defend his point until it's taken. Sanzu chose staying and being the one Mikey tainted with his dark impulses.

Sanzus derangement and volatile personality is a show of his original self and the tainted version of the timelines.

so, in MOTH i think is interesting how he will follow orders, almost killing koko and inupi without a second thought bc that was his order from his king; being uncomfortable when confronted with his own values and interests ; admiring kokonui relationship from afar and talking to inupi about it (like his friendship with koko during boten, sharing what he knows from what was said during high conversations), offering an alternative to Mikey of a plan that wouldnt risk Koko, and Mikey listening to him. Mikey has never doubt of Sanzus loyalty

Case 2: Mikey and Inupi

it is said along the story that inupis boldness towards Mikey was gonna get him killed, and true, he did put himself in riskier situations but he also knew what to share. From what he remembers from his teens, to what hes heard from Takemichy and Draken, he knows that Mikey was idolized, and to some extent that was one of the steps he needed to dehuminazing himself, the fact that everyone thought Mikey was unreachable made him believe it.

Inupi realizes that Mikey is in a situation similar to kokos (at least in the MOTHverse) and he confronts him, and Mikey listens mostly because of Draken.

he didint kill inupi because draken asked him to, but he helped inupi to save koko because he saw the same drive draken had for saving him, only that he cannot allowed it

Case 3: Mikey and Koko

Overall i think they dont have many interactions, bc at the beginning Mickey is hunting koko for being a traitor, but when the time comes, he pardons kokos and inupis lives. when Mikey questions koko for his choice and answers that he just wanted an excuse to be killed bc he was fucked up and tired, thats when he decided to let him go, because unlike mikey , when someone offered a hand to help koko, he accepted it

Case 4: Sanzu and Inupi

i loved that there was a point were inupi was like "oh, hes crazy crazy" and he was so angry for what Sanzu did to koko (beating him up and have all the intentions of killing inupi infront of him), and he was just trying to find safe ground, questioning the severness of his actions and the meaning of his loyalty

but then koko disappears and turns out that Sanzu is the only one inupi knows that could help him

Sanzu laughs at knive point bc he was genuinly surprised by inupi, and hes willing to go with whatever hes asking bc it was interesting, even if it didnt concern him, Sanzu listen to what inuppi had to say.

Also, I think that Inupi starts to give him some slack after Sanzu tells Mikey that there's a way to save Koko without the risk of killing him, thats when he realizes that genuinely, Sanzu follows orders, but he ain't stupid, he has his own criteria of what it is worth speaking up for, your not supposed to understand that criteria.

Case 5: Sanzu and Koko

we know that they spent time together because of bonten, but in MOTHverse, they are the closest they have to friends. They've shared things, so they know each other; that's why Sanzu knows he has to hunt for Inupi, and Koko knows that he's just following Mikeys orders, thus, it's useless trying to talking him out of killing them, but he tries nonetheless.

Sanzu is aware of this, and he convinces himself that he's okay with any outcome, because its his kings will, but we see, when he and Inupi talked, that he had some kind of affection for Koko, for all the years that they have known each other

…Andrew and Neil moved like they were caught in each other’s gravity, in each other’s space more than they were out of it, cigarette smoke and matching armbands and lingering looks when one fell out of orbit for too long…

Sometimes I’m reminded that in universe Chilchuck is an actually influential figure who like. Made huge advancements for his people and community. Like as in gave them rights and protections. And who is widely known by half-foots because of that. Like. He’s not just some guy.

Idk For some reason that just makes his role in canon really funny to me. Like this older, extremely important and accomplished figure is just willingly putting himself thru it for the sake of this random autistic 26 year old.
