Reflections on 3D model project
What went well:
The concept itself worked well
Research was reasonable
What could be improved on:
It’s too static
There’s no background - this is because I wasn’t sure if there should be, but it would have looked better with one
What I learned:
Lots of skills in 3DS Max, for example
What I would do differently next time:
Make sure I can use the software I am more comfortable with, and use that
Get a loan and buy a computer that actually works!

Some 3DS notes
The insert vertex button is in edit edges.
The insert vertex button will only appear when you have the edge button selected in the selection section, and will disappear if you click the vertex selection or anything else except the polygon section.
I’m making a new model by sort of tracing round my old model - the old model was good but for some reason 3ds max didn’t like it. So the best i can do is try to recreate it, essentially, by tracing around wit with the editable poly tool on a flat plane. The original model was made in Magic Voxel. I had intended to import it and use 3ds max settings to make it less square, but that didn’t work.
When I move the vertex in, it makes it fold or glitch. I googled and eventually found this:
Is axis constant off ? If so turn it on.
Right click on the snaps > Options > Enable Axis Constraints (make sure it's ticked)

It seems to have worked but I’d like to know why. Often a solution seems to be “go and change this setting” and I wonder why it’s not the default.
I’ve only just realised that “scene” means the character I’m making.
Now I need to know how to expand the plane I’ve made.
Glossary: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-3C0FCEEA-1CB3-4692-A523-5DF2E16941EB-htm.html
Now I’m trying to expand the plane, so I tried extrude and it looked like my chicken had turned into a crystal and exploded.
I went to polygons and clicked extrude, and it worked extrude, and it sort of worked but it had a hole in it.
It’s annoying that there’s no way of modelling symmetrically in real time like there is in most other programmes.
