The Clovis arc pisses me off monumentally for a number of reasons but one of those reasons is that it’s an arc where a woman’s trauma is neglected in favor of developing the male character more. It’s right out of the Buffy the vampire slayer handbook. Let’s have a scene where a woman gets assaulted and then find a way to make it about the man’s feelings and the man’s reactions. Clone wars already barely gives screen time to padmé as it is. This arc could have been the perfect opportunity to go deeper into her psychologically since she is LITERALLY ASSAULTED ON SCREEN! While I feel it is wildly ooc for Padmé to take issue with Anakin beating the piss out of a guy who forcibly tried to kiss her, I also wouldn’t have been opposed to it if we’d gotten more of a sense of padmé’s internal conflict. It’s not that she doesn’t feel Clovis deserves it, it’s just that the idea of anakin beating anyone up FOR her or because of her makes her uneasy. But that doesn’t really come across. It just reads as Padmé being upset because Anakin is going “dark” and also because he’s being an asshole to her. Because it was more important we show that anakin has seeds of the dark side in him (duh) than to have anyone comfort her after shes been assaulted, or dedicate any time to her emotionally processing what happened. Like most arcs in the clone wars it moves too fast and prioritizes the wrong aspects of characterization.
