Eid is being celebrated differently in different parts of the world. Some are gasping for breath, praying to their God for oxygen, others have had to fight oppressive regimes along with their hunger during Ramadan. Why should this matter to us? Because it’s easy to be non confrontational, it’s more comfortable to nod acceptance. But in times like these, against oppressors far more powerful than us, we need to echo each other’s dissent. The white collars, the capitalists and the politicians in general would love us to watch each other suffer in indifference; it makes it less inconvenient to carry on when there isn’t an annoying tirade clawing at the sidelines. If you can make a noise, make a noise, if you can write to someone do it, if you can shut a friend down when he indulges in his privileges, be that person, and call him out. It is incumbent on ourselves to focus on the eight dimensions of self care. They are not to be neglected or be subject to complacency. Between the unconditional love of the puppy/co pilot, the immense expanse of nature this country has blessed me with / I indulge in, and regular conversations with my loving, supportive parents; I have nearly every important aspect covered. An introspection often offers us the missing / lacking dimensions. It is our duty to identify and address those aspects as best as possible; I have only a couple, and I am doing my best to address them. This is no pontification of my life, but an admission of frailty if anything. These times are tumultuous, and lives are constantly in states of disarray. Reach out for help; it can be the most humbling experience knowing you are but a thread of a beautiful fabric, and not the whole cloth itself. Today’s iftari was handled by yours truly; Fiesta Lime chicken. With semester end paper marking, and assignments due, and a ton of reading to boot, baby sis has got her hands full. I finally get a chance to be the resident housewife, reclaim that kitchen, if for a week. And I have to try and one up her, which is wishful thinking; but a housewife can dream. If I did any more hiking, I’d be living in the forest. Well, I kind of do. It had been a while since I went on a sunset hike too. Worth all the mud in my boots. Then my dumb ass decided I must clean my boots in a very rapidly moving stream, before I got back into the sister’s car. That ended up with my ass in the cold water. Boots got clean though. Today’s forest indulgence was one hell of a way to say goodbye to the worst of winter; and a healthy reprieve from the glorified excel sheet operations I drown in during the day. Covered in a glaze of ice, the cave portions were so tricky they were verging on stupid. Inching through the caves had me balance precariously on the rock face, as I made little movements without upsetting CofGs. A rope was mercifully left by the steepest descent, as I found myself abseil, sort of, crunching the ice with my steel spikes, while simultaneously picking and dropping slack on the strong fibres of the rope.
