Where did Puig learn the song he sang in the finale? In theatre, or is it something that’s popular in-universe or is it something to do with his ex-wife?

The story behind this is so funny, actually!

When I first thought of the scene, I was hoping to make him sing a Broadway love song, but those are copyrighted to hell and back so I thought "maybe I should commission a lyricist to write me like a verse or two of an original broadway styled song"

Ankari [@ankariisme ] and Lluvia [@ / rainpuddles on twitter] (the musician and lyricist who helped me, respectively) imagined a whole Golden Era Styled Broadway Musical around the song, and even gave it a place in-universe!

In Akari's own words:

OK so let me tell you about this musical, it's called The Star of the City like a pretty standard early 30s musical but it's not one of the most well-known from this composer, only a couple of numbers became famous later on when some crooner made them popular with overblown orchestral arrangements on the radio but no one remembers the musical itself, you'll only see it played at musical theater schools because they have to pay low copyright fees for it

As for Puig's relationship with the song, well... Puig is a man dedicated to his work. As you can see, he currently has no life outside of it! The moment he shared with Alex, however, brought him back to who he once was for a moment-- in this case, to the student full of theater dreams he once used to be. I wont go too deep into it because there will be more focus on Puig's past during season 2!

Some (personal) thoughts about different social media

So like, I’ve been thinking about ways to give different social media platforms a purpose. Because of course there’s some places where things are easier for some of us due to the way our brains work, and the people in them, and the functions available, and the kind of content we post, AND there’s some places where you “have” to be (quotation marks used with full intention) to be relevant or because that’s where your audience is. HOWEVER, there’s also something to be said for, just, you know, existing, and letting yourself be, and seeing what comes out of it.

And I’m not sure that’s what I should be doing, considering this is the name under which I’m releasing music and also doing paid music commission work? But I think my original music releases are about to get extremely personal, and I actually like that. So maybe I’ll just ramble about stuff over here from now on, share my thoughts about music in general, maybe I’ll post a few random recordings, ehhh, I really don’t know.

The Twitter thing (read: the growing awareness that sooner or later my principles are going to force me out of there, even though my brain really appreciates the Twitter format) has made me think a lot about the alternatives and why they don’t work for me, or why they do, and I would really like to make Tumblr work for me? I realize that I’m really self-aware about my thoughts in general, and sharing them makes me feel kinda vulnerable, and I hate that and I also dislike the anon questions option, the fact that it exists has always made me feel unsafe over here. But it’s also... I can turn it off. And writing a lot of nonsense and putting it out in the world without caring that there’s no punchline and no brevity feels pretty nice.

I guess we’ll see!
