Prologue
Never would you have thought that a robot-plagued city had kicked out a handful of teenagers. They were called horrible names because they didn’t want any mechanical parts imported into their bodies to help them live longer. It didn’t seem appealing to them, to have something living inside of you. Parasites, that’s what the group called them. But they were known as miracles to every citizen of Rooker.
It was disgusting, living out in the woods far from the city limits. Wearing the same baggy, dirty clothes over and over again. It was common - when they first started out - to go to bed hungry. From years in the forest, they’d taught themselves how to come home with a deer or a small rodent. They assigned roles with different jobs to each other. Some took the more dangerous jobs, such as hunting and foraging. Other younger members of the family cleaned, guarded the house, and gathered water.
This humid, sweaty day was like no other. The kids woke up first before their older siblings at five in the morning, slipping on their gear and masks. To hide their identity, they used these steel masks they had forged that had narrow eye holes like ravens. There was also a stout little beak, which was shortened since the little ones had charged head-first into each other and scratched themselves when they were toddlers.
Later on, the older children had woken. They wore masks like their siblings, but they had sharper, intimidating features. They had more gear than the others, bows equipped with quivers full of long arrows with sharp heads and daggers and battle axes. Their blacksmith must have been proud of his work.
The little ones ran around the yard, some were sowing the dirt with someone beside them scattering seeds over it. The family’s objective for today was to renovate the house more to prepare for the new room for the children. The teenagers were cutting down trees with the little axes they had and lugging around logs to cut into pillars.
If you spotted this family before - if you survived the sharp eyes of the teens - you’d be surprised at how they formed this small and quiet civilization. They had dreamed of making more huts when they started out, but they had to expand the “great house” first. It had taken years to help everyone build their skills, to be good enough for the roles they’d have for the rest of their lives. It was hard at the beginning, when the protectors the little kids knew were tiny like them. Barely living, they were like zombies.
The little ones never saw any bad in their siblings. The teenagers always called them sprogs. When the sprogs asked why, they told them it came from the word sprag, meaning a slip or cutting of a plant.
No one, - not even the sprogs, who knew everything since they always had giggly conversations - knew how they ended up in the woods. They begged and begged for their siblings to tell them, but they always told them the same story. They were kicked out of a city beyond the woods, so they lived in the forest. They were just too tiny to understand.

Introductory Post
Hello, I'm Annabelle. I'm a writer here on Tumblr. Currently, I'm working on a novel called Cast Out.
Cast Out is a dystopian novel with a bit of nature sprinkled into it. It's about these teenagers who run away from a futuristic city where everyone ages thirteen and up get robot parts imported into them to help them live longer. But, the teenagers don't like the subject of being immortal as a robot. So, they run away to go live in the woods and start their own small civilization.
Here's a bit about me. I love hot chocolate and tea, petting my cat, and I have a habit of stressing over my word count.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy your time on my blog. I'll see you later!
