Cancer cells exhibit Warburg effect wherein they only undergo glycolysis for respiration, which produces just 2 ATP per cycle. As a result to compensate for loss of energy per cycle, they undergo an increased number of glycolysis cycles. This means they uptake an enormous amount of glucose as one glucose molecule is used up in each cycle. This is the basic principle of CT scan.
