Just played the demo for Velvet Thorns and absolutely loved it! I had some questions about it, or about MC and Leonidas specifically:

It's mentioned that MC would be used as a "motivation" for Leonidas - is it only in the sense of, "do poorly and they get hurt/punished" or was there also the other side of that like "do well and you can spend time with them or bring them to the palace/your rooms" or something like that?

Have Leonidas and MC been intimate?

Hi Anon! Thanks for the ask and for playing the first chapter of A Crown of Velvet Thorns :)

I only mention The King using MC as a way to punish The Prince- because Prince Leonidas would always find a way to be near MC whenever he has free time (even if he has to risk being punished himself). There's nothing The King could do to keep Leonidas apart from MC, and if he tried, Leonidas would defy him (The King wants compliance from Leonidas first and foremost, and that requires the bond between MC and Leonidas to remain strong, so allowing them to see each other as long as Leonidas does what The King wants ultimately aligns with The King's goals- though, as you'll see in future chapters, that doesn't exactly go as planned as The King's behavior towards MC becomes more extreme).

Great question! It depends what you mean by intimate. But if you're asking in the traditional sense, no not yet! The coming chapters will feature a build up to this (i.e. first kiss, first time Leonidas eluded to his true feelings for MC, ect.) <3

Hi Anon,

You're definitely not slow, I promise! I actually don't think I mentioned this yet :) Remus's eyes are hazel, I will probably go back into TLD and add a paragraph to each character's introduction to make sure their physical descriptions are clear. I think I describe Axis and Severin's appearance, but I skim on the details with Remus (and possibly Kyliah?)

I'm going to wait and see exactly how Itch.io responds to feedback from the community in the coming months before I make any decisions. I'm glad they've already rolled back some changes, and I hope that they continue to remove the censorship restrictions that have been put in place. It's difficult, because Itch.io is caught between a rock and a hard place, but game devs that create 18+ content still deserve to be acknowledged and (for those that monetize) compensated.

I don't think it will impact TLD and ACoVT, but I want to stand in solidarity with my fellow creators. It would feel wrong supporting something that doesn't acknowledge other works I've come to love as equally worthy of compensation and platforming, if that makes sense :)

Monthly Devlog

Hi everyone! 

We're kicking August off with a long overdue update! Thanks to some expert coding advice from BeastInTheCave, I've finally gone in and corrected all the issues with pronoun errors I was having in both The Last Divine and A Crown of Velvet Thorns. A huuuge thanks to them for explaining to me how pronouns should be correctly coded, as well as how to correct for some formatting issues (extra spacing specifically) that I was having.

Aside from going in and re-coding the story so that grammar will now be correct for all selectable pronouns, I've spent the month continuing to work on:

 Chapter three of The Last Divine 

Chapter two of A Crown of Velvet Thorns.

Based on the results of the last tumblr post, I will also be creating a separate blog for A Crown of Velvet Thorns in the coming weeks. Once I do this, I plan on posting sneak peeks to the upcoming chapters for both stories. I would also love to know what content people that follow my blog are most interested in seeing. I can either run a poll for this, or feel free to drop a comment down below to let me know if you're here for:

Work’s been hectic, and I’ve been sick for the past week, so I haven't posted much on tumblr or had much time to respond to comments and asks in the last month. But rest assured, I will be catching up on both in the next month or so! I was hoping to have the next chapters out by now, but life has had other plans. Thankfully it looks like I'll have a lot more free time in the coming month. Till then, thank you for your patience between now and the next update :)

An important note: The downloadable versions of The Last Divine have not yet been updated with these pronoun changes. I had to go in and essentially re-code almost every passage, which ended up being pretty time consuming. I plan on updating the downloadable version in the next few weeks, for now the browser version is the only updated version.

Mastercard and visa have reported to a couple news outlets that they are currently being swamped with calls and complaints. Keep up the pressure and try to (politely) insist that you leave a complaint via phone instead of letting the rep direct you to emails. It's way easier to be overwhelmed by a much smaller number of calls so each one counts for a bit more!

Ooh, that’s such an intriguing idea! 🙂 The stories are set in different timelines (the reason for this will become clear as the stories progress, especially in The Last Divine). But there's definitely a potential workaround for this! This would definitely be a fun ask to write on here- what would happen if the characters from both stories met! It's never something I've considered before, but now that I'm thinking about it, I can't wait for the chaos that would ensue 🤣

I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to the weekend!🙂 I’m running a quick poll to help me decide if The Last Divine and A Crown of Velvet Thorns should each have their own blog, or if I should keep both stories together in a single blog (as they are currently)? I’m planning to share sneak peeks from the upcoming chapters for both stories soon, but I want to run this poll first, just in case I need to split the blogs ahead of time based on your preferences.

I’m not sure how much crossover interest there is between the two, so this will help me get a better sense of what people prefer!

Hi! Welcome to the chaos! 🙂 So glad to have you here! And no worries at all, the confusion is totally on me for not clarifying things better. Prince Leonidas is the love interest from my other interactive fiction story, A Crown of Velvet Thorns. I currently have two interactive fiction novels under my Anonymous Soul handle, The Last Divine and A Crown of Velvet Thorns.

When I first started writing The Last Divine, I had no plans to do a second project. ACoVT was kind of a spontaneous passion piece I posted on a whim one morning.

I’ve been wondering lately if I should separate the two IFs into their own blogs so people only get updates for the story they're following. I may take a poll and see what people prefer 🙂 Please let me know if anyone else thinks of another solution that might work better!

Minor TLDupdate- Axis and music

I went back and reread the first two chapters of TLD as I continue working on chapter three. In the process, I made some minor updates for character and mood consistency. I changed the intro dialogue for Axis a bit. It always felt a little off to me, and I'm much happier with it with these changes! It definitely feels more true to his character :) I also changed the music that plays when MC first encounters the King's Huntsmen. I really like the new music, but I am concerned that the music shifts may be too frequent to the point where it breaks the immersion a bit. Let me know what you think!

Note- This update has only been applied to the browser build. I will apply it to the downloadable builds once I'm certain the music changes are something I'm going to keep based on feedback :)

MC and Leonidas are in their early twenties in present day scenes, but they're younger in flashbacks (for example, when Leonidas is dueling with his swordsmanship trainer, he's a teenager and in the scene where MC first meets him in the rain they're both kids). ☺️ Their love definitely does have that youthful/innocent/playful feel to it that gives the vibe of teenagers in love, probably because they've known each other since childhood and they're one another's first love❤️

Less than two days left on The Favorite RO poll and you all have absolutely turned my expectations upside down! I figured Prince Leonidas would be #1 since fans of ACoVT will vote for him, while fans of TLD will be split between four different ROs.

Looking solely at the ROs for TLD, though, I am genuinely (and pleasantly) surprised by the results!! 🙂 Kyliah and Axis are in the lead, while Remus and Severin half about half those votes. I expected Severin to take the lead among TLD readers based on the feedback I got from beta readers. It's nice to see that all the boys are getting some love!! 💗 (And now I also feel less guilty for not having as much of our broody necromancer in the first couple chapters of TLD 🤣)

New Project Launch: The House of Noctus

Soooo.....I woke up two days ago and needed vampire romance :) Hence, The House of Noctus was born. This game is for vampire lovers who enjoy dark romance with a mix of seduction, action, and courtly intrigue.

This will be a side project that I'll work on whenever the mood strikes me. The Last Divine and A Crown of Velvet Thorns will still be my priority, and I will work on The House of Noctus when I'm in the mood for dark romance :P I decided to post this project on another account since THoN is a significant departure from the mood and tone of my two previous works, and I don't want readers who are only interested in TLD or ACoVT to be bombarded with updates for THoN (which is rated 18+) <3 

I'm a bit like a mood ring when it comes to my writing. I tend to lean into writing stories that align with whatever I'm feeling for the day, so I like to have several writing projects going that lend themselves to a variety of vibes/emotions :P
