Today was one of the happiest days for me and my children.
Today, I withdrew what was left of the donations I received thanks to your support and kindness to finally buy some food for my children. A few supply trucks were allowed in, with high prices, but it was still a chance we couldn't miss.
I was able to buy some flour, vegetable oil, cheese, and sugar.
Tumblr media
These may seem like ordinary things to you, but to us, they are dreams come true.
I woke up early to bake each of my children a piece of bread half to eat at the start of the day, and the other half at the end. I filled them with that delicious cheese we’ve missed for so long.
I made them sweet tea with sugar something we hadn’t tasted in a long time.
Tumblr media
My little one, Youssef, who still doesn’t speak, pointed to the tea and said, “Me… me…”trying to say he wanted some too.
And Hussein looked at me and said, “Mama, I feel like I’m dreaming…”
They sat together and enjoyed the moment as if they had entered another world.
I don’t know how to express to you what I felt, or the joy I saw on their faces.
But I do know this: none of it would’ve been possible without your compassion.
You were the ones who raised our voices when the world turned away.
I can’t say that the famine is over but today, for just a moment, it stepped back.
Today, I seized what felt like our last chance to live a happy day.
I trust that you won’t leave us alone.
Please, keep supporting us. Help us bring a little joy into our children’s lives.
Your donations are not just support they are life itself.

we're getting closer to the day that will mark two years of the genocide in gaza. conditions are worsening. while there is no individual who is unimpacted by the happenings in gaza, many are bearing the brunt of the genocide.
children, old people, pregnant women, and people with disabilities are unable to get enough food to nourish themselves. they don't have access to life saving medicines and the aid they require.
mohammed is a disabled child who was receiving regular physical therapy before the genocide. due to the invasion, his life has been flipped and he is unable to enjoy his childhood or get access to physical therapy.
his parents are fundraising to help him. kindly consider donating to them so that they can help their little boy. the fundraiser is verified.

An abusive parent saying "you'll understand when you have kids" is just. Wild.
My mom told me a story about how when she was small, she got lost. Her parents looked for her, had the police look for her, and as soon as she was found, her mom slapped her for making them worry. She gave the line of "You'll understand when you have kids."
When my sister was small, she got lost. Mom looked for her, police looked for her, etc. When she found her, she said the first thing she needed was to touch her curls, to ground herself and reassure herself that she's really here, safe. She wanted to hug her. Ask her what happened and if she's okay.
And I think about this a lot when something comes up about my dad. He kept trying to convince me that he did nothing wrong with me, and I should want the same things with my kids. To be manipulative and controlling, because that's the only way you can guide a child apparently. He could never understand when I tried to explain I want my kids to feel respected and heard.

How do we know/guess how Latin was pronounced?
I can't find the post where I talked about this before, but basically there are two ways.
1) Because Latin transitioned from a living language (in the Roman Empire) to the language of scholars and clerics (in the Middle Ages) without a gap, the pronunciation was passed down from teacher to student. It almost definitely shifted a bit over time though, due to human error and the lack of recording devices. This handed-down version is called Ecclesiastical Pronunciation.
2) In the early 20th century (iirc) scholars attempted to compensate for shifting pronunciation by reconstructing how Latin might have been pronounced in Ancient Rome. The version they came up with is called Classical Pronunciation.
There are valid reasons for choosing either pronunciation, and you'll meet latinists hotly in favour of each. 😜

Where are the international laws regarding what happened two years ago, a year ago, a month ago, a week ago, yesterday, today, and every day? Where are the international courts, where is the White House, where are human rights, and where are the international conventions? Are they really real or are they just lies? It is really a lie. All of this is empty talk claimed by America and the West through CNN and BBC all this is a lie

oh god sudden thought
so as per various DC social media concepts Clark has a Superman twitter where he posts left-leaning but fairly safe & tame stuff e.g. happy pride from Superman. Clark Kent also has his own twitter account where he posts his actual opinion.
what happens if uh. what happens if he forgets which account he's logged into.

The thing about those posts I’ve seen about Tumblr users having an odd habit of using other people’s posts criticizing a(n applicable) bigoted behavior as a confessional to try and cleanse them of their sins is like. They’re all missing the part that they objectively should be embarrassed about the behavior in the first place.

The unsavvy talk about furries like they're some hypersexual excretion of modernity, but drawing animal-people is one of the top 10 neolithic human activities. It's up there with collecting berries and producing clay figures of fat women.

Please please please, I’m begging people, start talking about indonesia occupied papua. Over the last 50 years Indonesia has killed over 500,000 native Papuans in their occupation of the west half of the island.
This is also a genocide that should be talked about. It needs to be addressed, but it’s ignored on the global stage.
Free Papua!

"It is more blessed to give than to receive."
"If you see your brother in need and close your heart against him, how can the love of God dwell in you?"
These sayings are from the Christian Bible. "In Islam, there is a woman who gave water to a thirsty dog and entered Paradise despite her bad deeds". this indicates only one thing, which is that all beliefs and religions urge us to help and relieve the needy.

theres a phenomenon that happens on here i have been calling "normalize loving parents posting" which is when you spend a lot of time on tumblr and are exposed to a lot of one specific counter-cultural narrative day in and day out until you start to forget what the dominant ideas are for most of the human population and thus feel the need to "defend" things that are widely accepted and popular. it's called this because of the time a bunch of text posts about shitty dads were circulating and then people with good relationships with their dad didn't feel included enough and started making "uhmmm can we normalize loving parents? not everyone has a deadbeat dad, MY dad is great" type posts, seemingly forgetting that good relationship with dad is a cultural norm that is expected and encouraged. i think its good practice, especially when im annoyed, to stop before i hit the post button and ask myself if this is a real issue or if im normalize loving parents posting. because often im about to try to normalize loving parents

Okay the WEIRDEST THING is going going down right now
So some guy in Michigan in the US has just found a letter in his grandmother’s house; it seems to be a pen pal letter from 1973ish, and it’s from a young Welsh girl. In it, she lists:
Her name, and the names of her brother (Gwynedd) and sister (Catrin)
Their ages
Where she lives in Wales (Denbigh)
Her hobbies, including horse riding and reading pony books.
So this American dude decides to take a photo, whack it on Twitter and ask the only Welsh person he knows if there’s any way to track this Welsh girl down, because you know, ALL WELSH PEOPLE KNOW EACH OTHER, OBVIOUSLY
Except
I am furious to report that it has worked
Welsh person he tags doesn’t know, but takes up the challenge. Someone reckons the Catrin might be a woman who translated a hymn book once, and checks the foreword to see that the dates and ages do seem to be about right. Someone else suddenly has a brainwave - wait, isn’t she the mother of Steff, the comedian?
My husband gets tagged, takes one look at this letter, and is like “That is 1000% my aunt.”
So now it’s 20 to midnight, Steff’s aunt has obviously not yet seen the excited message to put Twitter out of their misery, and my mother-in-law is currently on the phone gleefully telling us that when that letter was written her sister had never sat on a horse in her life before, and she’d lied to an American pen pal for clout before the internet even existed.

my parents visited today and their latest item of ‘what people you knew in school are up to lately’ gossip was about the absolutely BONKERS thing they’re trying to talk their friend out of doing to her daughter. I’m still in shock tbh

The fact of the matter is that most authors of classic sword and sorcery fantasy couldn’t write dialogue that sounds like a human person to save their lives, and that’s why we invented wizards.
