JOKES ASIDE this is actually sad because I am sure he really just did pick up every summon dog he could until he was on the edge of his chakra resources. Like none of his summons are from breeds meant to fight except for maybe Akino, Uuhei and Bull.
He already had all of his eight dogs while he was tracking Orochimaru and he was ~14 at this point which means he had chosen all his summons while being a literal child. Which also means he acted like a normal child picking random animals on street and taking them home except that he didn’t have parents who are usually against this behaviour :( fuuuck imma cry on this hill

This comic started from a silly question I had in mind while making avocado toast the other day, and here we are, nine pages later…
There will be part two where Obito and Kakashi will meet again! I'll try to finish my other doujinshi and my thesis first, haha. Stay tuned!
You can buy this comic as a support piece pdf (pay 1 euro or more) on my itch.io store, and there are two bonus pages!

if it's okay, how do you imagine Kakashi's training in the Anbu was? And how was it different from his regular training before/after.
We know this man trains a LOT (even when he's recovering from injuries, the crazy man) but I wanted to know what you visualize it as, and how you interpret the reckless behavior he had when he was an Anbu
:D you're really detailed in your analysis so I wanted to know if you had an idea about it!
Tumblr media
I imagine ANBU training is soul crushingly tedious, dehumanizing and much darker than a shounen series would be allowed to portray.
ANBU is Konoha's black ops team but one of their main functions is guarding the hokage as well as other important people. At the start I think Kakashi would be doing his regular training, learning the basics of fighting within an ANBU team and then stealth and maybe sensor training. A whole lot of what they do is hide the fact that they even exist and this is the really dehumanizing aspect of putting a traumatized kid in ANBU. Out of sight, out of mind.
ANBU spend so much of their time perfectly still and silent while remaining alert and ready to act at the slightest hint of a threat. I think that would have been a different kind of training than Kakashi was used to and I I think it would have been really hard for him. Not because he didn't have the skills needed but because he had a whole lot of awful things on his mind back then and he needed to be seen and heard. On ANBU guard duty it would just be him alone in silence with his thoughts for hours and hours, day after day.
Kakashi was told that if he joined ANBU, he'd be allowed to stay close to the only person he had left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It didn't really turn out that way though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kakashi was 13 and every member of his family team had died, except for Minato. He realizes that he won't be close to Minato anymore and ANBU is his new team, and...
He acts out a bit.
We never see this but I imagine that Kakashi must have encountered quite a few comments about his age, about how he wouldn't have gotten into ANBU if not for his hokage teacher and probably one or two whispers about cold-blooded friend-killing.
We see Kakashi force himself back into killing shape despite persistent flashbacks of Rin's death every time he uses chidori. He seems to be turning killing into a competition or a game, to prove something both to himself and his new teammates. More importantly, we see 13-year old Kakashi put kill count ahead of the mission, scaring even his adult team mates.
Tumblr media
His skills are evaluated and his mental state is assessed, as requested by Minato. Kakashi might be a good actor during psych evals or maybe ANBU has shit psychologists or maybe they didn't want to tell Minato the truth and risk losing a weapon as deadly and efficient as the broken boy with the lighting cutter hand.
Either way he's taken off the team to spend 9 months watching over a family he's not a part of. 9 months of silent loneliness. Hiruzen told Minato "only time can heal the pain in Kakashi's heart" and they agreed put him on time out. Almost like therapy! It probably, most likely, didn't ease any of his pain but I do think it calmed him down. He pressed that pain down deep enough that it settled and solidified.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Minato dies and Kakashi is the most solid, lonely weapon in the world.
Until Danzo picks him up.
Tumblr media
And Hiruzen takes him back.
Tumblr media
I don't think Kakashi's "true" ANBU training would have started until after Minato's death and until these corrupt old shits in power started using him for their various agendas.
So, "black ops" indicates that the missions ANBU and ROOT are tasked with are supposed to be so secret that nobody should suspect the government is behind them. Being a famous black ops agent should not be a good thing, but in this world it is so, lets just forget about that detail. Kakashi becomes a fucking legendary black ops agent. I don't think he needed a lot of training in assassination, he had that part down from the start. What he got through ANBU was ungodly amounts of desensitization, just by the sheer number of people they had him kill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he had to get training beyond stealth, observation, patience and killing, right? These are the things we see him do in the anime but there's no way ANBU never engaged in advanced plots of deception against foreign nations or had to torture a nin or two to get information. I think ANBU training would have to include fun stuff like learning about foreign cultures, disguise, both physical and henges. There'd be acting lessons! Just imagine ANBU improv sessions. I'm thinking about that scene in the Kakashi Retsuden novel where he henges to look like a maid. I want to imagine lots of maid missions but I'm getting off track here.
(or, I could insert a whole section on honeypot missions and the many ethically abhorrent methods that could be used to train agents for these but ao3 might be able to tell you more about that?)
Torture! Konoha has it's own torture department, isn't that neat? Can't bring that out into the field though. ANBU agents would have to learn various methods of torture, both how to administer and how to withstand. I'm not sure how you train someone to withstand torture but I assume it involves torturing them.
We see Kakashi take 72 hours of repeated crucified stabbing from Itachi and that's probably, hopefully, the worst he's ever had to endure but I don't think he would have been able to endure that at all if he hadn't gone through plenty of pain before that. I also think he's very capable of handing it out but I really don't think he'd like it. I don't think ANBU would have given him a choice in training but you know what he says about following rules. Free fic prompt!
I think a kid like Kakashi was perfect in ANBU because he came in there already so hardened by life that they barely had to train him at all, or that's what it would seem like anyway. Killing is fast and easy for him. The rest though? I think there were plenty of things that weren't easy at all and I don't think training left him without scars. I had vague creative ideas about this once but I realized I'm better at reading horrors than coming up with them myself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the day, ANBU was his job for 10 years and he was damn good at keeping his shit together though all of it! I think the worst of his recklessness was at the very beginning, before Minato was even dead. I think he was crying out for a hug :( He actually seems to have gotten a bit more stable mentally over time as he became a captain. We see him being calm and helpful with teammates, standing up for the smaller ones like Tenzo and Itachi. He grows up! Absolutely none of his pain is taken care of though. I think he just resigns to keeping it pressed all the way down, focusing all his energy on doing his job. Perfect shinobi weapon and all that.
Glad he got to enjoy a few years of depression afterwards before he had to pick himself up in a more healthy way <3
