i know a lot of people dont like bugs but they are animals. theyre just as essential as the rabbits and foxes and deer and bears. they all play an important role keeping the ecosystem in order. they pollinate and hunt and get hunted. theyre a part of a balance. their purpose on earth isnt just to be an inconvenience to you personally. bugs dont care about you. i asked them about it and they said they never even heard of you

hi! how are you doing? i wanted to ask, how can i get more into the cetacean community? i have been very interested in orcas specifically, but i'm not sure of reliable sources i can find about them. do you have any advice? tysm in advance!!!

Hi hi! I'm good! Your best bet for reliable information is looking for non-biased sources, regardless of your stance on one subject or another. Information on killer whales can be especially focused on pro- versus anti-captivity. For example, SeaWorld of Hurt is run by PETA, so much of their content will be skewed towards exposing and ending orca captivity. On the other hand, SeaWorld itself has attempted to skew information in the opposite direction, for obvious reasons. Governments sites like NOAA Fisheries have general information for dipping your toes into, mostly regarding wild cetaceans. The Center for Whale Research is also a good for learning about the Southern Resident Killer Whales, though they also have encounters and information about Bigg's Killer Whales.

The biggest thing I can stress to you when you want to learn about killer whales is doing your own research rather than relying on word of others. Plenty of people make misinformed comments, and plenty more people fail to fact check them. I used to fall victim to this plenty of times back when my interest first started! Just remember it's okay to admit you can be wrong, and always be open to new information.

As a Tlingit person, I am having a field day. So lemme address how bad this actually is.

Check out their following & you'll notice that most of the "Indigenous Community" pages are all fetishized fake NDN twitter pages (most of the time these are run by Europeans). There is not an actual Indigenous presence here.

I just wanted to say, you’ve all been wonderful. I’m not leaving, so don’t misunderstand that, but-- You are all wonderful. 

I briefly found a calling in the crocodilian field & it was.. amazing. The experiences I had because of it were equally amazing & stay close to my heart. I had to remove myself because of more pressing, serious matters that took over & ruined a greater portion of my life, despite the good I did. 

I am not a perfect person, & I never will be. Sometimes, when I’m overwhelmed, I make aggressive decisions & I’m sorry. I don’t deserve the support from anyone, but I am grateful towards anyone who still gives it to me. I am angry at the cetacean community for it’s rampant bigotry, & angrier still when I know that it won’t ever get any better. I’ve been around this one since 2015, & it hasn’t changed. It’s only grown more difficult to bear, on both sides of the field. 

My breaking point was caused by 2 very aggressive, racist-driven hate campaigns against me (from anti-caps, actually). Coupling this with the fact that I-- unknowingly rescued girls from child trafficking & found myself in the middle of an FBI investigation... The last few years have been exhausting. I’m tired. I don’t want to deal with it anymore. I don’t want to deal with much of anything anymore, actually. 

I don’t want controversies or fighting losing battles trying to make people see the bigotry that runs rampant-- or understand how you simply can’t divorce human rights (”politics”) from your animal welfare opinions. 

The only thing I can do, is focus on myself. I know, I say that a lot-- but it stays true every time. I’m tired. 

I don’t mean to turn this into a pity party either, just-- a vague explanation, & a sincere apology, as well as showing my gratitude. Thank you for everything. I’ll try to do my best to be a little more active, since I feel bad for abandoning Mod Star to this on her own. 

I won’t play the same role I had before.
