born into the great quan phoenix clan of china, with a centuries long reputation. some sort of sacred oath was made between the leaders and the clan ages ago and basically the clan has been consistently providing fire magic phoenix warriors to a secret organization that defends the country against dark forces.

when jin was eight, his family moved to the usa bc of a job opportunity.

forgot to mention his family is disgustingly rich, so he’s had that good life. well except for when it stopped being good.

the quan clan traditionally raises kids in a way to ensure they have fire affinity and become great warriors. but at his mother’s insistences, his father let jin be and just have a normal childhood.

when he was 14, curtsy of the clan’s advanced magical knowledge, jin was tested for an affinity and found out it wasn’t fire, but water. literally the worst most embarrassing affinity a PHOENIX could have.

his father was pissed and was like “ok time to pull out the ancient training method then”. he forbade jin from having friends and relationships and pulled him out of school. mans blackmailed his friends and gf into fucking off. the gf stayed, jin tried to run with her, and his father got her killed. sadge

that was a red line for jin’s mother, and she ratted her husband to the police for his dirty business. homie got thrown in jail yay.

although technically free, jin still struggled with his dad’s shadow and him trying to ruin his life from behind bars. he became paranoid and refused to get close to people after what happened to his gf anna.

dad was released the exact day jin left for arcanas. in fact, he was present at the opening ceremony. at the attunement test, jin was shown to have a fire affinity finally. however, out of spite to ever make his dad happy after HIS trauma shaped up this affinity, he chose the water attunement.

━ 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐬.

his parents had him take violin, tennis, painting, and piano lessons as a child. out of all of these, he only really enjoys tennis.

chess is a chosen hobby and he actually won a couple school championships.

sleeps with his socks on bc he has terrible peripheral circulation.

he hates hot weather ( ironically ), but absolutely loves winter and snow.

big fan of ultra spicy food that melts your face off. he doesn’t even feel it anymore.
