On doing some research and market analysis, I do think there is a gap in the market for a publication like this. ‘Hotpress’ which at one point was a publication with its finger on the pulse in music, has not aged well, and the only reason it exists is because it hasn’t had a competitor. Another publication is the online ‘District’, which after having a browse through their online and print content, I believe have a disconnect between the two. The online is filled with click-bait, Buzzfeed style articles, they have no regular posting schedule. The person who runs District, also runs music events, and the print publication, although it claims to be an influence on culture in Dublin city, the only people that grace the magazine appear to be the acts that the event manager is putting on at the time, and I don’t think people are blind to that.

On a wider scope I have been looking into magazines such as Paper and Dazed. Both of these are either quarterly or bi-monthly, and both have been running as ‘tastemaker’ publications for over 20 years. They have a simple and slick design, and that’s what I’m going for, and their content is similar to what I am interested in for my publication. They are both supplemented by online sites.

Mission Statement

This publication is focused around fashion, lifestyle, art and music. The aim is to feature artists and talent on a worldwide basis but with a special focus on those from Ireland. The aim of this magazine is to introduce people to new artists in their specialised fields, and to provide a commentary on popular culture. It is released 4 times a year, as a seasonal round up of what has been going on in the months prior, or what will be happening in the following month. This publication creates and adds to culture by being on top of the newest and best new artists in all genres.
