what type of love were you made for?

forgive the messiness, this was pulled mostly from a message on discord, but:

many thoughts about Cam's complete lack of identity and hesitance to feel btw. even before he knew all the god stuff, he was always just "Emily's son". and she was incredible, that wasn't really a bad thing. but then when he'd act out—everyone say 'thank you Soren'—it'd be "well he's definitely Elijah's boy." so even as a kid, he either did what mom asked all the time and his happiness was hers, or he lashed out and his anger was dad's. after Emily died, Cam didn't fully know about this bit until later but Elijah blamed him for that because. " well he's not a normal kid, he's supposed to be a divine being. that's what he is, why isn't he acting like he should, why didn't he save her. " but again, he didn't get why dad was mad all of a sudden so he didn't feel like he deserved to react outwardly to anything because he didn't even know what he did wrong and he couldn't disprove anything. and THEN, when Soren shows up and promises the truth and he kills his father to prove he wanted that information, there was no time to react how he wanted, if he even knew what he wanted. this was minutes after a failed suicide attempt on his birthday, he was not thinking clearly, he was just a scared teenager. Soren made him believe that– well he wanted Elijah dead anyway, so it was worth it. and then he didn't have time to think afterwards because oops! surprise vassal status, killing his dad was signing the pact, now he's not only Khymos' pet but a lot of other people in the circle know him as the one that escaped both Irades and Eutheme. whaaat that's not a kid, nooo, that's a perfectly good soldier in the wrong hands

he has always been a thing that other people can put in a box. there is no Cam, there's just pieces of other people still stuck in there. you take all that away and he genuinely doesn't know how to think or act for himself.
