I need your impression. You have a quiet reserve. I don’t know, you have an old soul. I meant your fingerprint.

Get To Know ↬ Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man Vol. 1
“My armor, it was never a distraction or a hobby, it was a cocoon. And now, I’m a changed man. You can take away my house, all my tricks and toys. But one thing you can’t take away… I am Iron Man.”

I’m re-watching Iron Man 2 and...
I just want to address some inaccurate readings regarding the film that have been bugging me a every time I see them. I get that you have to pay attention to the subtleties to really understand what’s going on behind the curtain in this movie. This is a geat film, but it’s weakness is that it was almost too subtle for casual audiences at times. I say this, not out of some misplaced pride. I too had to watch the film more than once, but if you do, it’s all clearly there.
A) Tony Stark is NOT a narcissist. Ok, I admit, this one was laughable from the moment I heard it, because I’d seen Iron Man 1 (and really all of 2 at that point) and I’m familiar with how a person with NPD thinks/behaves. Tony doesn’t fit by a long shot. Too emotionally intelligent, too self-critical (and wayyyy too public about it), too willingly to accept criticism/ reprimand, too forgiving, too willing to apologize, too willing to forgo opportunities for respect/glory/affirmation/praise, and too willing to praise others. Not to mention the whole, risking my life for the good of others hero thing he does.. These are not things NPs do well, especially not as often as Tony does.
If that weren’t enough, not only was Nat’s data based on a man who was acting reckless due to him impending death from a condition that literally messes with your mental capacities, the entire film makes a point of juxtaposing the “in front of the cameras” Tony Stark with the “behind the scenes” Tony Stark. The former is totally self-absorbed and haughty, yes. But the latter? Not so much. In his relationships? Definitely no. He’s not even the one to make the demands or set the boundaries, even with built in power structures in his favor (Pepper’s his personal assistant, he could easily be bossing her around and demanding her respect while giving little or none in return. Instead, she’s always reprimanding him and telling him what he needs to do-not that he always listens, but still). And most every time Tony is shown flaunting it in front of the cameras (the Expo, Senate hearing, Monaco), he’s next shown testing his blood, looking worried, sick and/or in despair.
So why does Nat say it? Because spies know how to manipulate people and they wanted Tony’s help with the helicarriers and various other things. The same reason why Fury planted Nat in Tony’s life secretly, withheld offering him something to stave off the effects of the pallidum poisoning until the last minute, proceeded to have Nat surprise inject him with it without consent (he could have easily explained instead) and then locked Tony in his house until he invented a cure. They’re a spy organization. It’s kind of what they do.
B) Tony STAGED the fight with Rhodes. It was not simply a party that got out of hand. Tony wasn’t merely being irresponsible. Why do I say this? Several reasons:

I love to dance. I like music. I’m very into Britney Spears’ early work, before she sold out. So mostly her, um, finger painting and macaroni art. Very underrated. Favorite activities include not ever having to do this again, and uh… I also have a sister.
