Ghosthouse Rodeo

Chapter 1

As the sun rose on the bustling streets of Lumiose city, and the Fletchling began to chirp, Angelo Courtemanche slammed his sleepy fist down on his screeching alarm clock and hauled himself upright to get ready for his day. He had to get up relatively early as he had to walk to Santalune City to get to school, it wasn’t a huge journey, but he needed to grab his friend Valerie Paquet, who moved from the Galar region, so they could get to school. Valerie had moved from the Galar region when Angelo was in elementary school, and it was particularly mind-boggling for him because she shared the name with the fairy type gym leader at the time, as well as for the other children in their class. The Laverre Town gym leader had moved back to Azalea Town about 3 years after the Team Flare Leader Lysandre was defeated and subsequently killed by his “Ultimate Weapon”. Angelo and Valerie were very close, they sat next to each other from the first day Valerie joined his class, and even though she was very guarded, Angelo always extended a very friendly hand and a listening ear to her because he understood how scary it was to be in a new place without knowing anyone. Valerie was a very energetic young woman, she (along with her family) was very friendly to Angelo, accepting them as their own acting as a second family. Valerie also was a very compassionate and loving friend, which helped him develop his identity as a gay man. Angelo snapped back to his senses and realized he’s been sitting on his bed zoning out for 5 minutes and needs to get going. He slid off his pajamas and put on a pair of baggy khaki cargo shorts, a white, short sleeve collard shirt as well as a grey vest and a black crossbody bag. Angelo scanned the room and grabbed his headphones, woke up Leo, his Leafeon and TiTi, his Meowstic and headed downstairs. A note on the counter read “Bye sweetie! Love you, I’ll be back late tonight”, he picked it up and folded it into his pocket as he chopped up some fruit and gave it to his Pokemon, threw some waffles in the toaster and checked the time: 6:45. He texted Valerie making sure she was awake, she texted back a sarcastic “Yes mom, I’m awake” and Angelo giggled to himself and then was subsequently frightened by the pop of his waffles coming out of the toaster that then were headed for the ground, but then stopped and levitated back on the counter. Angelo looked at the waffles, then at his TiTi who looked around sheepishly “Thank you TiTi” he said and patted his head. He grabbed the slightly singed waffles from the counter, said goodbye to Lina, his Nacli and headed out the door. A blast of cool air hit his face as he stepped out onto the sleepy streets of Lumiose and he headed across the street, holding TiTi in his arms and Leo standing across his shoulders “Ready you guys?” he asked, “This is the last week of exams and then I’m stone free”, Leo nuzzled his face and TiTI tapped around on his arms. After dodging taxi drivers and people on a questionable plane of consciousness, he arrived at the faded brick house with faded white shutters and a multitude of assorted tulips on the windowsills and knocked twice “Coming!” said a voice inside and after the sounds of someone struggling with a lock, and a young woman with dark-green eyes and silky brown hair in a thick ponytail answered the door. She was wearing black boots with a black and white pinstripe skirt and a red sweater, she had a black purse and a warm black cap that looked rather warm for the weather but Angelo didn’t question it, “Hii Angeloooo!” she said “Let’s get going!”.
