i was aimlessly listening to some old songs on my playlist and realized how much this matches so trust let me cook guys

So, starting off, this is like Chase and Buddy's first meeting. Buddy is hostile and rough with Chase because he only wants his key (hence, sword)- pretty straightforward. Sparrows symbolize family/community and perseverance, along with some other positive associations if you dig deeper. EXACTLY what Chase's goal and priorities have been since the beginning. He stuck out learning about the book magic, keys, and narratonin because of him mom, and formed an even stronger bond with Deacon because of his situation. We've been directly told and shown how perseverant Chase is throughout the entire story.

Ooo okay, this section really speaks Beach Boys ark to me. Specifically, when Buddy hurts Chase with the spear. At that moment Nox sees how much of an impact his hostility can have, we can see his expressions are extremely guilty after that. The "giving" part is when Chase shares his chocolate with him (can also be when he gifts Buddy the bag of supplies). It really coveys Buddy's "why is he so nice to me?" feelings and how he sees himself as the opposite to Chase's "angel".

This section can be from Chase's pov now. It starts off with a good parallel to Chase being attracted to Buddy pretty early, and it growing quickly throughout S1. Now I can see the lyrics kinda describing how Chase sees past Buddy's hard exterior and wants to find the good in him. The last part is also spear-incident adjacent, as Chase feels betrayed the night before it because Buddy attempted to sneak info out of him in his sleep, and is pissed after he gets hurt. He momentarily doesn't want to hear Buddy out, possibly feeling a bit stupid for trusting him to that degree, before going back to his understanding self and repairing their dynamic.

Though on the more stargoth-y side, we could also apply this to Buddy's Requiem costume pricking Chase in their hug, and Buddy subsequently ripping of the super symbolic thorns to show he doesnt want to deter him away.

Im applying this to Chase's home life now, he tries his best to stay positive despite all he's lost, but is still impacted by things like Aunt Beth's comments. He doesn't want to let his mom down, he tries to be enough for his aunt, and is pushing himself to the max as to try and make his wish in time. Unfortunately, all this worry and pressure spills over in the Still Waters arc, showing just how much he's been hurting :(

SPEAKING OF STILL WATERS, THIS!!! The deterioration of the book, the keys going dark, ooooof it's just so similar in description to me. First line is Deacon and Prunella getting infected by the book-rot, the next two describing Chase and Nox running for the last solid tree in the setting, and THEN!!! The stargoth kiss scene is SO that 4th line. The desperation to get out of there alive and how their kiss came under such wild circumstances ARGGGG. The outro of the song could be the book rebuilding itself and the golden light kicking them out safely, but I first thought of it being a recall to all the character's development. Deacon being the hero he always wanted to be despite not getting the heroic save, Buddy finding his trust and ability to love, and Chase being the influence for these positive changes despite his own problems (if you wanna include pru you can take it as her finding=d friends and a place to belong finally)
