COMM LEARNINGS

S P O N G E
I chose sponge as a metaphor of my learning experience in class. Sponge represents me because I always absorb all the information and all the new knowledge that are discussed in class by Sir Joeven while the act of spreading the dishwashing liquid it serves as me being a comm practitioner to make things easier and this also symbolize me sharing or spreading information to the other people. All the stains represents all the struggles in life and I will be able to survive it through the knowledge that I’ve learned in class.
TOP 3 BEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE
The top 2 best lesson that I've learned in my Communication class is the process of inquiry and the concept of Common patterns of Comm.
Process of inquiry often does-and should-lead to the creation of new ideas and constructively communicating those ideas within the context is central to the whole inquiry process. Its intention is to present some of the important aspects of inquiry that ought to be supported in a successful learning environment.
Process of inquiry also includes different stages like observation, theory and questioning. There is no specific starting point in this three. The process of inquiry is contextual and it also gives us understanding in comm phenomena or situation. The field work in process of inquiry taught me to be more accurate when it comes to observing a certain situations and by this, I also learned to be more open minded.
Next is the Common pattern of Comm. In this lesson, I was able to observe different types of people in Isetann specifically their behavior, action, words and etc. This is the best learning experience for me because it was my first time to handle a group in our communication class and I was also able to observe how people interact in each of the prescribed spaces and because of this lesson, I also had the chance to interview the staff or crews in Isetann Cinema and by that I was able to learn new things from them specifically the history of the mall and the different process of the call boys in Isetann.
Moreover, the learning strategy that I learned in Comm 2 is to always analyze things because things always have different meanings and people always have different interpretation and different perspective in everything while the strategy that I always used in class is to always listen whenever Sir Joeven is telling something in front of the class, for me to be able to cope up easily with all the field work, blog, reporting and all the research we do for class.
How has the course improved my view of Communication as a field and my career plans
The course improved my view in communication as a field because it helps me to understand that communication is not just a simple field as other think it is. It is a field that focuses on developing and consolidating the knowledge and skills. This course has also been an eye-opener that Mass Communication isn’t just about learning how to communicate properly . We are trained how to be a reliable and responsible communicator, we are thought about different communication theories and how we can apply it in daily basis. Studying communication is as important as studying medicine, we have the power on what information we will inject to the people however we are trained to be critical thinker and we must be vigilant on disseminating information. To sum it up, I can say that taking this course improved my views on communication as a field and I am looking forward to use all the knowledge I attained to my future job

SOCIO CULTURAL TRADITION
The socio-cultural tradition looks at the ways our understandings, meanings, norms and rules are worked out interactively in communication. This tradition is centered on the creation and enactment of social reality.
From our interaction with the community or social groups we are able to understand the world, relate to and create reality. In the realm of the socio-cultural tradition it is believed that our identities are constructed through social interaction.
TAKEAWAYS:
The top three takeaways in our group presentation which is Socio Cultural tradition and Cultural Approach to Organization are first, our tradition indicates that as people talk, they produce and reproduce culture. this means that if we are able to communicate ourselves with others it has more chance for us to share the information about us and the information about the culture we belong. second is that, for me, Socio Cultural tradition is the most valuable when it comes to communication although individual traits do have a strong role in the act of communication, culture influences such as family, society, media, and religion. all of this creates rules and regulations on what, why, where, and how we are to communicate and act. lastly is, “culture is shared meaning, shared understanding and shared sensemaking” this means that eventhough we all came from different cultures we are able to share our different understandings still by communicating. Terminologies in different genres or cultures dictate a certain understanding of the particular group when used and can be a determining aspect on one’s identity.
CONCEPTS:
The two concepts that is relevant in our tradition is that communication is indeed important in our everyday lives. It is used for us to interact to people in order for us to gain more knowledge. specifically to have more information about each and everyone’s culture and through communication reality is produced, maintained, repaired and transformed. next is that knowledge does not exist inside the head of a human being. meanings are negotiated where individuals, culture and activity intersect. It tries to explain how social mediation plays a role in the construction, reconstruction and transformation of culturally and historically situated meanings.
In the group who discussed the Rhetorical Tradition, I’ve learned that the rhetoric is about art or skill of speaking or writing formally and effectively especially as a way to persuade or influence people. next that I’ve learned is the different modes of persuation which is Ethos, Logos and Pathos. Ethos is about persuation that deals with the character of the speaker while Logos is about appeals to the logical reason and lastly is the Pathos, it is the emotional influence of the speaker on the audience.
The main concerned of this tradition is that language is effective in persuasion and more specifically the ways humans use symbols to affect others and to shape their world.
While in the group of Phenomenological Tradition, I’ve learned that life is a continuous chain of experiences. These experiences are both good and bad but both help us live a more educated and productive life. Experience is also a key ingredient to success. Experience can help us to easily understand and analyze things in our everyday lives and some of this experience can give us a lot of opportunity to take on some interesting and challenging responsibilities. By having experience, it shows people that we have thought about what we want to do and understand the everyday realities of life. Indeed, experience would help us to have a deeper understanding to different things.
LESSON:
Honestly after our report, I felt disappointed because our report wasn’t reported as I expect it to be but im glad because I know that I did my best and I approached my members nicely, I let them pick the topics they really want. I gave them the topics where they can fit properly, for them to understand it more easily.
The greatest lesson that I’ve learned in our group project is that, COMMUNICATION IS ALWAYS THE ANSWER because different perception can lead us to misunderstandings and eventhough we aren’t able to report our topic very well, I am happy because I still had the chance to talk with other people eventhough I need to take a lot of adjustments especially because the people i’d been worked with is the people I don’t usually worked with to. However, through communicating, we had share our different ideas and different perception about our tradition that would help for the betterment of our work and I also learned that it is okay to be down sometimes, we just need to stand up again.
In the end, we just always need to look on the brighter side of everything.
Moreover, this lesson would help me when I become a media practitioner because all the experience from our group report will serve as a lesson that failures should be used as a motivation for you to become a better person.

Two orphans yearning for a family’s presence find themselves on a journey to visit one of child’s mother who has already departed from this world. Their journey towards the grave was not easy, they had the trouble of finding transportation to take them towards their small village. Even though it was hard and their hope was slowly dwindling, they still kept on pursuing their goal to reach the grave. To visit the child’s mother and pay their respects to her. The story shows us that no matter how life is hard, there will always be one person that will always be there to help us in our struggles in life.

Answer Number One
After I watched the video of those two kids, I felt sad and lucky at the same time. Sad because im always sensitive when it comes to parents mosly if its about mothers and I know how hard to live without someone who you can call family because since I was one year old, my father died because of heart attack and I only have my mama to support our financial needs. My mom didn't know what to do but she did her best just to provide all the things that I need. Moreover, In this video, I also feel lucky because unlike those two kids in the story, I still have the chance to spend time with my mother eventhough she had a stroke last 2015.
Just like in the story, Eventhough my father died at my early age, his memory & love will always remain in my heart.

The signifier that I choose would be the Mother's tomb because for me it signifies the hardship of the kid in the story. If his mother didn't die, He would not end up in the orphanage with Fizi.
The grave symbolizes all the pain & sadness that the kid is suffering because of his mothers death.

Answer Number Three
Semiotics is an investigation into how meaning is created and how meaning is communicated. Its origins lie in the academic study of how signs and symbols (visual and linguistic) create meaning. It is a way of seeing the world, and of understanding how the landscape and culture in which we live has a massive impact on all of us unconsciously.
As a future media practioner, The semeotics will help me in my life because in my course, we manage meanings and by the help of semeotics, I would be able to understand different perspective of everything. I would have deep interpretation with simple things. The main important in studying semeotics is when we realise meanings are embedded in everything. We will realise that understanding how they are made would be useful in managing our influence in life.
