Lobster in a bucket looks like a gigantic monster on a metallic planet, and the waterdrops look like stars.

it also sucks that paleo fan content revolves around this kind of conspiracy so often because like. Yes deep time is wonderful and strange and huge predators whip ass. I won’t pretend they don’t. Megs are wicked as hell, I am not immune to the huge shark either. But aside from the harm this kind of conspiracy does, there’s this certain kind of longing in these spaces for a time when nature was “stranger” or “more intense” that utterly ignores how our world functions NOW.
You could be interested in basking sharks! Or Greenland sharks! You could look into actual examples of deep sea gigantism! The ocean floor is extremely barren but there are also gardens of life that develop around places like hydrothermal vents or along the edges of toxic brine pools! If you’re interested in large elusive predators just get into squid! Seriously just research squids. That is the predatory cryptid you yearn for. Support the conservation of Komodo dragons if you’re interested in big lizards. Research actual species we thought were extinct only to rediscover later. Hold my hand our world is beautiful and strange you don’t have to ignore everything we know about an already fascinating predator just to make the world more interesting. Google giant siphonophore.
