For Ariel to look so confused about her apology, Jieun could only guess she might have grown up in different circumstances. “Ah I was just trying… to be humble.” A word that well fit the young woman, tender knuckles gracing the top of her head when she laughed delightfully. “Since I made you pick up the stuff I threw down and all… getting me the cup of noodles and such.”

Once more she waved with the box, smiling lightly. Realizing there was really no point in doing that, she dropped it against with another laugh, rubbing her forehead with her free hand. “Ah, look at me. I’m usually not this awkward when meeting new people but you pretty much caught me in a moment where my stubbornness got the better out of me so I’m a little embarrassed.”

She should really have thought about that before deciding to climb the shelve like a monkey.

To hear how tall the female was made Jieun whistle and then whistle again after hearing her age. “Woah- what do they put in your food to make you grow so tall?! Kids these days..” Now she was talking like an old woman but in that moment she didn’t care.

All smiles and jesting, she accepted the compliment soon after with a small nod of her head. “But thank you! I do get that a lot. I hope it continues to stay that way for a while.” Swaying her head to the side with a hopeful, toothy grin, she adjusted her hair back neatly over her shoulder. “With your height I’m pretty sure you could be a model! I mean… you got the looks for it.”

Sensing her chance to maybe string some acquaintances in the model industry despite Rachel, Jieun makes a step into the direction of the cashier. “Should we maybe sit down and talk for a bit somewhere else? I don’t live too far away from here. I mean… if you want to of course.”

she was confused as to why someone would have to be sorry if someone did them a favor. but she just guessed she viewed it differently than her. “oh well, i only did it cause i can’t sit still.” she laughed. the girl actually did her a favor. seeing as she hated just standing and doing nothing. “it’s really no big deal don’t worry about it.” she wanted to relax the girl. she seemed so on edge with every little motion she made.

ariel couldn’t help but laugh at jieun. she had made it so obvious she was embarrassed. ariel on the other hand hardly ever felt embarrassed. she did things with ease. so it was fun to watch her actions. she was a very cute girl. small and very rigid with each action ariel’s eyes were glued to the other watching her in amusement. she might have to keep this girl with her for constant entertainment. “it’s alright,” feeling the need to reassure her “it’s cute.” with a smile she complimented the girl.

like one of the older women who live in her neighborhood “kids these days” slipped out of the twenty year olds mouth. she seemed the type who didn’t get out much. “hm i drank a lot of milk.” she laughed. her bones were good and strong.

“hm i figured as much.” the two were all smiles and compliments. jieun’s reply almost had her rolling. “you really think so,” a mischievous smile playing on her lips. she thought about telling her. but she didn’t want to sound like she was bragging. but then again, ariel was the type to brag about her status. she giggled “i actually have done a couple of photoshoots before.”   

forgetting about the items in her hands before jieun walks over to the cashier. she remembers how thirsty she actually was. she made her way to the counter behind jieun. hearing jieun’s offer it actually sounded pretty tempting. she would be an interesting companion. she nodded “alright, that sounds like fun.”

noticing the expression on her face. that and how red her ears were. she felt the need to reassure the girl that being short wasn’t a big deal. but the girl bowed before she could say anything. the first thing to leave her mouth was an apology.

for some reason, when people apologized when they shouldn’t be always slightly bothered ariel. she knew the girl meant well but to her she just didn’t understand why the brunette should be sorry. she didn’t do anything wrong. “you don’t have to apologize.”she stated maybe it was her facial expressions that made people want to always apologize to ariel. she did have a sort of threatening or rude air about her. maybe people just thought she was a mean person.

the girl awkwardly smiled through the conversation. making ariel feel somewhat at ease. figuring she was just an awkward person it made her feel better to think that. instead of thinking that ariel was somehow in the wrong here. of course she never liked to think she wrong about anything. 

she got the question about her height as much as she got questions about her hair. it was pretty much engrained in her head at this point the number 172. “i’m about 172cm” she was used to saying it in centi by now. instead of the usual ‘american’ way.

she smiled as the girl- now known as jieun. figured out that they hadn’t exactly been introduced yet. ‘her manners’ she almost laughed out loud. she had been nothing but mannerly this whole conversation. and yet she was worried about them. ariel returned the bow “it’s nice to meet you too, i’m ariel park.” she was a bit shocked to hear her age. she didn’t look to be 23 she looked so young. but it isn’t like 23 was old anyways. “oh- and i’m seventeen.” she laughed forgetting to mention her age. “you really don’t look 23 you know,” she smiled giving the female a pretty nice compliment “you look very young.”

And then it dawned to her. She had completely forgotten to introduce herself. Talking like acquaintances without even knowing the name and age of her conversation partner. She could only hope she wasn’t coming across as rude “Ah- where are my manners. I’m Song Jieun, 23. It’s nice to meet you!” Then she bowed again, holding onto the cup of noodles the other had been so kind to get for her.

And despite all, she felt somewhat accomplished.

she put a bag of popcorn in the microwave before she heard the knock on the door. she wasn't that surprised to find soojung at the door. she just had wished she had text her instead. as to not wake her mother who stayed with her. she didn't want to hear a lecture about her 'beauty rest' for yet another time.

she let it go however, being so excited. she hadn't seen soojung in so long. she greeted her friend in a hushed voice. dropping hints, without having to scold her friend. which would honestly be such a drag to do.

"come in," she demanded her friends attention. as she was about to speak again she heard the microwave go off. chips would've been a safer bet. she felt like a sixteen year old (which she is.) trying to sneak out of her house (which is why her mother is always lecturing her.)

she eased her way over to the kitchen to finish up the popcorn. placing it in a large bowl. she wasn't sure if her friend was hungry or not. but she made snacks in advance. it had been a while since she had someone over. she felt the need of people. the sinking feeling of being lonely. that often hit her too hard at times.

as she treaded back to the entrance "i called you over for something very important." a smile stretched across her face. as she held up the bowl of popcorn "movie night." ariel tried to contain her excitement in an attempt to seem less lame.

she sends no message back, only arrives in ariel’s doorway barely an hour later and knocks twice, only wondering about one thing: the state of her friend’s hair color.

it was the look on her face. that was all it took for ariel to almost start burst out laughing. but she kept her composure. like always. she was a pro model after all... well she was a model after all. the girls transition from anger to surprise is what ariel couldn't help but smile at. most people couldn't believe her height. she was used to it at this point.

ariel's eyes stayed fixed on the girl as she tried to move her eyes anywhere else but on ariel. ariel couldn't blame the girl for staring. she was a bit surprised by the small tint of red that appeared on her face. how cute ariel thought to herself. she bent over to pick up the bright colored packets of food that had fell during the struggle. she couldn't be sitting too still for too long, and frankly the packets of food where bothering her.

after placing the food packets back on the shelves, she turned her attention back on the other female. "no problem," she said with a shrug "least i can do with my gift of height." she joked with the girl smiling as she did.

ariel couldn't help but smile as the girl kept staring. it was like she was getting fed constant compliments. and she loved it. this will have to be someone she kept around her at all times. the girl continued talking, eyes still glued on to ariel. she was shocked the girl said she was older. she didn't look that much older than her. she had such a baby face. and her height made her even more cute.

"well," she had a thought upon hearing the tone of disappointment in her height "nothing wrong with lacking in height." smiling she had always wished she was shorter at times. but didn't most people wish they were different at times. better to just be confident in yourself, at least this was ariel's view on things. "anytime you're having trouble with things like this," she pointed to the shelf "you should just give me call." she laughed at herself. a designated tall friend.

Ready to yell at whoever dared to take it away from her, she spun around only to be greeted by a tall and pretty young beauty. How could someone so young be so tall?! Fearing to be caught staring, all her initial anger and frustration slowly evaporated and made room for embarrassment, a slight tint on her cheeks as she accepted the cup. “Ah ye… thanks…” Her accent caught Jieun even more by surprise. The female didn’t strike her for a half but with her height, perhaps that was an option.

Left staring again in awe, the trainee could only blink. “Sadly I’m… not that tall. Even though I’m pretty sure I’m older than you.” The attempt at small talk; something Jieun usually was found doing upon meeting new people.

she wasn’t a rude person, at least she didn’t think so. she was just an unnaturally hot-blooded person. ariel had always gotten compliments on her hair. and the questions that followed were always the same. ‘where did you get it done?’, ‘do you do it yourself?’ ‘does it fry your hair to do it?’ ‘is that your natural color?’ (the last being the most aggravating.) on most days she didn’t seem to care. but she was on edge today. having skipped lunch and having to suffer through an all night photoshoot. she wasn’t in the brightest of moods.

it was then that ariel was collided into another girl. this was not good. she could feel her anger levels rising as she looked down at the girl. she was a cute girl, seemingly shy from what ariel gathered from her looks. it wasn’t good to judge a book by it’s cover but, ariel always trusted her eyes more than a silly saying. her eyes practically burning this poor girl alive as she made her apology. ‘didn’t see me here’ she thought to herself ‘i’m literally the tallest person in the area right now.’  she didn’t want to make a scene in public but, her temper was rising. it was then that the girl gave her a compliment- something the red head loved dearly. it helped to keep her from setting off for the moment. she gave the girl a half-hearted smile “thanks,” the dreaded question came out at that moment (she had figured it would however.) so she decided to have a little fun “hm my hair? no it’s naturally this color.” touching the strands of her red hair with utmost serious expression played across her face.

brighter ★ ariel + yewon

if there was anything that could catch yewon’s eye quickly, it was an unusual hair color. the idols she watched on her television and computer screens had different shades of browns and blondes and blues and pinks, all of which yewon thought were “super cool.” however, as stylish as the trend might be, her parents preferred not to see a pink-haired child running around the apartment. thus, yewon was stuck with her natural hair color. it was okay, but yewon still planned on trying something new in the future. eventually.

the redhead that yewon had accidentally walked back into was pretty, yewon thought. some people could really pull of red well and she was definitely one of them. yewon realized that she should be polite and apologize before the other got the wrong idea. she wasn’t raised to be rude. “sorry–i’m really sorry!” she bowed hurriedly. why was she always clumsy like this? when she rose from the bow, she smiled sheepishly. “i guess i didn’t see you there.” it wouldn’t be the first time. as an afterthought that she hoped would smooth the situation over, she tacked on, “your hair is really pretty, by the way. do you do it yourself or…?”

shopping was a hobby of ariel's. she often went to different areas in seoul just to eyeball different clothing. sometimes just to look. it filled ariel's days just to sit and look at the different patterns, this alone entertained her. walking up and down the street bottle of water in her hand as she eyed the windows full of posing mannequins. stopping at times to enter the shop and feel the fabric of something she wanted. occasionally buying one or two items. ariel didn't spend too much money however, she had enough clothes already she didn't need to buy much.

long legs strutted down the street she grew tired. she eyed her phone. '1 missed call' she rolled her eyes. her mother had wanted to meet about a modeling job. but the gig would mean she would have to miss school. something ariel hated. she was already in trouble with her absences, not to mention the trouble she got in once they saw her red hair. she couldn't rid of the hair though, it was her signature at this point. her 'fans' expected it of her. she giggled at the thought of her having fans. she sipped on her straw the water almost completely gone.

she couldn't have that, she must stay hydrated on these hot days. she was working hard after all. as she was shopping she noticed a convenience store and made her way inside.

the red head strolled through the isle stopping at times to look at the snacks. her stomach pleading for food. she hadn't had much to eat today. but she didn't eat much on most days. her eyes burrowed into the nutrition labels on each package she picked up. sighing as she knew she wouldn't be able to find something of value here. her anger level rising she grabbed a bag small bag of chips and a bottled water.

hot headed at this point she huffed and puffed her way over to the counter to check out. but she stopped when she saw a girl reaching for something on a high shelf. a smile stretched across her lips as she tried with all her might to grab the cup of noodles. fingers missing it by a hair. blessed with a gift of height ariel decided to help the poor soul. she approached walked over effortlessly grabbing the snack. then handed it over to her. "i believe you wanted this." she smiled as her accent weaved through the words she spoke.

With a grunt she accepted the challenge. Tip toeing with nimble fingers blindly feeling around the shelve in an attempt to reach her maximum height and achieve her goal this way, all seemed to be futile when all she was able to do was knock over a package right beside the cup. Back to her heels with a deep sigh, the female directed her gaze upwards with a glare, scowling the innocent cup by being too far out of her reach. 

Then she tried to see if she could step onto the lowest shelve without knocking things over or breaking anything. If this thing wasn’t coming to her, she’d come to get it!

red hair swaying as she walked down the street. she eyed her phone again. reading the directions of the house she was headed to. as she checked the clock. she was late as usual. it was honestly unintentional. she had been at dance practice after school. ariel sighed as she dawned near her destination. ariel didn't see the point of having a tutor, her grades weren't that bad. but her mother, and one of her teachers, had suggested it. as when you do move schools your grades could being to dwindle.

she was honestly thankful of who she had gotten to be her tutor. she didn't think nani would make her try and focus too hard on her homework. and if she did, she felt as though she could sway her to doing something else. she was a pretty persuasive person.

finally made her way to the building she opened the door. a gush of cool air hitting her. she shivered as it hit her, her hair had still been a little wet- from a shower she had taken after dance. probably the reason she was even more late. but she didn't want to be all sweaty and smelling bad. she wasn't about to show up in public like that. in front of people she didn't even really know.

the room was completely silent as she walked in. a common thing of libraries. it was almost eerie ariel thought to herself. this is why she hated libraries. they were always silent making her yawn just thinking about the lectures she was about to endure. ariel walked past the tower of bookshelves and to a separate area of tables. amongst the people noses deep in books she saw her 'teacher.'

long legs charged their way through the crowds of tables. head held high showing her confidence. feeling already that she knew she was the 'cutest' person here. these little things gave her confidence. call her superficial but, everyone was in their own well. it also made her feel better to think these things. it wasn't like she said it allowed. her eyes laid sight on nani and she smiled. she was very pretty. 'wow we're both the best looking people here.' she thought to herself. knowing ariel this meant that nani was someone ariel saw herself hanging around. she was egotistical like that. stepping up to her "nani?" she smiled saying her name in a high pitched manner, getting the others attention. "hey," she spoke in english as she sat down at the table. "so what do you have planned for me today?" her accent laying on a little thick as she spoke.

a long drawn sigh escaped her lips. legs perched on top of her bed as she lay on the floor. she was bored to the point of death. the red head watched as the clock rolled over to the next digit. it flashed "10:00PM" in neon green letters. ariel scowled at these digits. it was late and here she was alone at home with nothing to do.

looking over at her bedside table she remembered at that moment of a new horror movie she had rented. it was one that had been recommended to her a lot but she never got around to watching. ariel wasn't one to get frightened easily but even so she did think having someone else with you was always better when watching horror films. so she grabbed her phone to shift through which of her friends would be up.

eyeing her list of contacts she stopped at soojungs's number. her nickname "jung" in small black text a heart next to her name. ariel hadn't seen her in a while. in fact now that she had remembered that she hadn't seen her in a while the more she had realized she missed her companion. this was the person she wanted to share her new movie with. she had her heart set on it now.

opening up her messages she began to text her. she figured the other female was awake. soojung always seemed the type to stay awake. at least that's how she remembered soojung. it had really been a while since they had seen each other. she typed out the text. before hitting the send button making sure to send her a lot of emoticons. giving it her own personal flair to it. 'emojis always swayed people.' smiling to herself as her thumbs clicked away

hitting the send button she awaited her friends reply. as she jumped up from the floor. she did anything to keep her mind off her phone. that included cleaning around her room. even doing some dishes. having nothing to do always took a toll on ariel. she had a constant need to be doing something. but everyone had their flaws right? at least hers wasn't too bad.
